Paige slams the trunk shut and turns back to her aunt and uncle. “Thank you for putting up with me this past week. I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you more, but I promise everything will work out. And I will be back for visits much more often now.”
Uncle Dave and Aunt Julie took turns giving Paige a hug and saying their goodbyes. Paige climbed in her car and started driving off. She wanted to stop and see Evie before she went back to the manor. As she pulled up to Evie’s house, Paige saw her sitting on the front porch. Getting out of her car, she approached the porch and called out.
“Looking for a change in scenery or waiting for me?”
“A little bit of both now, I guess. Come to say goodbye, have you?” Evie asked.
“Yes Aunt Evie. I’m going back to the manor now. I have to talk to my sisters.”
Evie nods, and accepts a hug and a kiss from Paige before wishing her well. Just as Paige reached her car, Evie called out again.
“Paige, I’m glad you found yourself. The answers may not come all at once, but they’ll come. And the solutions will take longer. But this is a step in the right direction. Now have a safe drive, and drop in now and again.”
Paige promises she will, and climbs back in the car to drive home.
An hour after Paige left Evie’s house, Phoebe and Piper pulled up to Dave and Julie’s. As they raced to the front door, Phoebe commented that Paige’s car wasn’t there. Piper knocked on the door, and Julie quickly answered it. Knowing right away who they were, she started talking before they had a chance.
“You missed Paige by an hour or so girls. She may still be at Evelyn’s house. Let me give you directions.”
Piper and Phoebe thanked her and immediately drove to Evelyn’s house. As they pulled up they say a middle-aged woman and an elderly woman sitting in rocking chairs watching the sunset. They approached the porch and introduced themselves.
“Good evening, Mrs. Matthews. I’m Piper Halliwell and this is my sister Phoebe. We were wondering if you have seen Paige.”
“Of course I have. She left here not an hour ago. But sit down for a few minutes, girls. Talk to me,” Evelyn said to the girls. Piper and Phoebe sat down on a bench not far from Evelyn. Joanna quietly made her exit back into the house. Evelyn said to them, “So you are Penny’s girls? You look like her, in the eyes, just like Paige. I imagine there are more similarities than meet the eye with you three, huh?”
“Penny? You knew our Grams?” Piper asked.
“Of course I did Piper. In fact, I even know your husband, although I haven’t seen him in more than 25 years. But Paige assures me he looks remarkably the same,” she says with a little wink in her eye.
“She did? Uh, what else did she tell you?” Piper nervously asks.
“Nothing too surprising. I was, of course, already aware of your Grams’ abilities as well as Leo’s. After all, he healed me one frightful night back in college. That was the last night I saw your dear Grams. We had so much fun together, but she was afraid I would get hurt, since I had no powers of my own. It put such strain on her. I could tell there was something wrong. That’s why I went that night even after she had cancelled. But I understood why she ended our friendship. Just like you girls understand that Paige needed a quick break. She needed to find out who she was, where she came from, how we are all connected. And I’m sure you girls learned a great deal about yourselves while she was gone, or you wouldn’t be here chasing her down.”
“You’re Evie, aren’t you? The little girl in every picture with Grams,” Phoebe asks.
“Yes I am. Paige will be able to tell you more about that. I have told her much that she may or may not share with you. Now hurry along; you don’t want Paige alone in that house all by herself for too long.”
Piper and Phoebe thanked Evelyn and got back in the car. As they made their way back to San Francisco, both girls had time to reflect on Grams and Evelyn’s friendship, and parting. They were determined now more than ever to make amends with Paige.
Well, I have one post and this section is complete. I am still working out the 3rd and final installment, so that part won't start for a few days. I'll try and post the last section before I leave again tomorrow. I hope you all like it!!! And thank you again for all the great reviews. I think you will *die* when you read the next part!
