Why? Because she became the oldest? There has to be a better reason than that. Look, I like Piper. I always have. Even during the period when it was hard for me to like the Charmed Ones. I agree that Piper was a sweet and caring person. She had been through alot and it did make her a little tougher. I guess it was necessary to survive and I think anyone would be a little tougher after going through all she did. She did remain a caring wife, mother and sister. She was a good person and a good leader.

I keep hearing this thing about Piper not being nice to people and then I flash back to how empathic she was to Eva from The eyes have it. She even cried along with her when her aunt was killed, just like she cried when Myles was shot and she even felt noticeably upset when the Seer, a demon, was killed by Zankou in Witchness protection. She's just a bit more wary about getting close to people and allowing others to hurt her and her family. After years of being taken for granted and being chased by demons, I think it's ok for her to be more careful about people entering her house. Just look at what happened when she let her guard down and let Billie and Christy into her home and treated them like family.

Piper is still caring and a good mother wife and sister, but after Prue's death she knew not to get incredibly emotional, she knows how Prue lead and that was pretty much a goal to her(she does act more Prueish now a days). I've always liked her better in her original role, the middle sister, but this transition was very realistic. While i think she wanted to act more like Prue, as her role was protector of the family now, many other things happen to occur her change too.
Over the years Piper has been through way too much, i mean seriously, her character was dragged through the ground again and again, how do you expect her to not harden her heart. Tell me that losing your mother and sister to death and having another sister be taken away to the darkness and husband taken from you due to the good have no effects? Frankly, i am really surprised that she didn't destroy the elders and the higher beings. she is still very caring but is very cautious of where to trust people. Billie did use Wyatt against her afterall, so i find her to be even more hardened.

Piper is a classic Gemini. There is the snarly side to her. She can tough, gruff and angry enough when she needs to be. There is also the nurturing side. She is a doting mother and caring sister. What more can we say?

Piper is a leader and knows when to let her sisters lead which is always a good thing, I'm also surprised she didn't kick the elders after they put her and Leo through so much together. It was jumping through hoops just to be together, then keeping Prue away from her after she died.

She threatened to blow Odin up in Once in a blue moon but Phoebe stopped her, darn it Pheebs! She also kicked Sandra out of her house in The 7 year witch but she couldn't stay completely out of their way for too long seeing as how her destiny was somewhat intertwined with the freaking elders.

Once in a blue moon was one of those episodes that should never have been made, so random and not part of any story arc really.

Well, kicked out is a strong phrase. Piper was distraught and, worse, viewed this as another in a long series of Elder actions designed to thwart Leo and her. Sandra was the messenger who got hit with the wrath of Piper. But, as we later learn, Sandra is perhaps the Elder most sympathetic to the Charmed Ones. Odin, now he's another matter. How did the Titans miss him?

And, why is it that Odin also has the power to project energy? Is it because he is in Magic School and is able to channel the magic there? Elders with powers is a very disconcerting notion!

Sandra was one of the few that was sympathetic to Leo and Piper being together, and the Charmed Ones getting rewarded for all the fighting they had done over the years.

The elders getting powers after so many years, is weird if they had that much power why was there a need to have the charmed ones do all the leg work??

That's why those who exercised (abused) such powers met with punishment. Gideon was killed. Leo fell from grace. Hopefully, a chastened Odin never again visits Magic School and accesses its powers. Using them once (in a Blue Moon) corrupted him nonetheless. He apparently was one of the hot-headed Elders out to punish Leo and destroy his dual role as father and Elder.

Piper is the most caring witch of them all, she made two beautiful boys and like someone said, took Billie and Christy into her home and treated them like family. She has every right to exercise caution, because they are interrupted by that much evil that she has to be wary of people, its part of her witchly duties!!
And as Piper said to Cole in one of the epis after Cole proposed to Phoebe, "Phoebe is used to being the young carefree sister..." Phoebe couldnt have possibly taken over, as her character at this stage in their lives was not strong enough for it, and Paige wouldnt have stood a chance at being head witch!! Not at that point anyway, therefore Piper had to take over the role... and what a good job she did aswell
