Either way. Even if season 7 was the ending, to revive it we would still be stuck with the delima on how to get their identities back as we saw in season 8. For me also season 8 wasn't really that bad but it could have had some improvements in writing. Like making the transition from their alternate identity back to their real identities shouldn't have been more than 2 or 3 episodes at the most and Billie should have been kept to being the witch they were willing to train or guide and occasionally hang around the manor, but not have to be dependent on in any way. Plus a different enemy for the final battle. Even If they went up against the triad without the Billie and Christy ultimate power storyline would have been better. Or kept the Source around after he was summoned to regain control of the underworld and wreak one last ultimate battle instead of killing him off right after he's brought back. Would've made sense if it was the Souce instead that was trying to use the hollow once again against the charmed ones thinking this time he could succeed without Cole and the seers involvement.

You have brought up some good points. However I didn't like who the Source turned out as in the end, so having him around all season would have been worse. I can't take him seriously enough. Also he wouldn't have the powers and essence, because isn't he just a regular demon here. I didn't mind the idea of Billie and Christy, if they didn't go with the many versions of three evil witches or warlocks throughout the series. Well the Evil Charmed Ones story being the end big bads. I can get behind that. Also why not a collection of demons brought back like say The Seer, Barbas and Shax or Rex. Joining forces to take down the Charmed Ones once and for all.

An open ending would have allowed to come back even after 10 years with the same protagonists and new ideas
I would have loved a season 8 which opens on their new lives, normal lives, with some innocent to save, careful not to attract the Elders's attention I'ld imagine in a different city, such as Los Angeles, with different jobs, such as Piper running a small restaurant bought with the money of the sale of the P3, Phoebe working as a psychologist in a nursery school, Paige working as a freelance photographer Phoebe mother of a little girl and Paige married to Henry, and mother of the twins, with flashbacks that explain their past
I'ld slowly introduced the theme of the Great Threat, giving episodes in the first two seasons style, focusing on their lives, their relationships, and an innocent in trouble
I like Christy and Billie as Big Bad,being betrayed by friends or relatives is the worst thing, although I'ld have preferred that Christy was an agent of the Brotherhood of the Thorn, an enemy too quickly forgotten

I actually really enjoyed the identity switching in season 8. It provided some great comedy moments and focused more on the characters and their relationships with each other and with others. Generally I like lots of things about the final season if felt like they were trying to bring the focus back on the relationships. I love all of Charmed really, it's my favorite show, but the reason seasons 1-4 particularly seasons 3 & 4 are really stand out seasons for me it's because the show was so grounded in the relationships between sisters, family and loved ones. These sisters also happen to be kick ass magical witches. If I had to pick a least favorite season I think it would have to be season 6. They started to lose focus on the relationships, and the magical aspect of the show became heavy-handed to the point of distraction. To me, Charmed is at its strongest when the magical and fantasy elements of the mythology compliment the emotional impact of whatever was going on in the human relationships. If the magic element overpowered character development, the show got lost. The core of it is always about strong women and sisters who also happen to be magical witches. Not powerful witches who as a side note happen to face human dilemma's and happen to be sisters.
