Amazing how a great show can become total rubbish in a single season. Well, that is what happened to Charmed in the debacle called Season Five. When I saw the promos for the season premier, that Little Mermaid rip off, warning flags went up. I had a very bad feeling and, as it turns out, i was right.
Some of the things I hated about this season:
1. The ruination of Cole. Yes, I know that his story was effectively over at the end of S4, and Julian wanted to leave. However, they did NOT have to butcher Cole's character they way they did in Season Five. They took a well developed character and turned him into a crazed stalker. Seriously, they were all over the map with Cole this season. Centennial Charmed made me (and many other fans) angry. Character wise, Cole deserved better.
Two years later, Seven Year Witch gave him a much better send off.
2. The Magical Community. Oh, God, where do I begin. As I have said, the moment they started trotting out these Disney rejects, I could no longer take Charmed seriously. I mean look at that rubbish wood nymph episode. All their prancing and dancing around, I wanted Piper to blow them up herself and save the demon of the week the trouble. Oh, God, make it stop!
3. The sisters became selfish hags. What the heck happened to the Charmed Ones this season. When did they become such selfish creatures. I knew a few Charmed fans who dropped the show because they could no longer recognize the characters they had fallen in love with. This is where Phoebe really becomes PhoebME. Also, this is the season that Paige's IQ dropped about fifty points. Could you believe that this Ditzy Valley Girl (as Es calls her) went to college?
All in all, I wish Charmed had been cancelled after S4. While we'd lose Wyatt and Chris, they were really one of the few good things about the later seasons. When you weigh that against the ruination of Cole, the Magical Community, and the Selfish Sisters, well, I'm prepared to make that sacrifice.

The beginning two parter wasn't bad as I enjoyed the sea hag and thought Cole & Phoebe had closure
Half way through I wish that Cole was gone. Its painful to see him with his heart broken and Phoebe hating him. Phoebe really grated my nerves and was jumping on any man that talked to her. I wanted the old Phoebe back.
The magical creatures are a nuisance, but I did like the mummy, the gremlins and the titans that was about it.
Wyatt was great in helping his mother find herself again. I liked seeing how they would handle a baby around. The only powers I wish he had was the shield and self healing.

It was a good idea to go for a lighter opener considering the past two seasons. I think the bad part of season 5, comes across bringing Cole into a season where his story should of ended. The magical creatures overload was bad. But I actually did enjoy episodes in this season, it just had a horrible ending to the season. I actually wouldn't have minded if Sense and Sense Ability had been the season final or even Wyatt's Wiccaning ceremony. This may have been among my top 3 seasons ever, if Cole wasn't in it, they dumped Oh My Goddess, Paige stayed a social worker and the old Phoebe came back.

I think A Witches Tail made Charmed lose its credibility. It's almost like it sold out with the Magical Community and painstakingly using Alyssa Milano's breasts to get more male viewers watching. In fact, at the very beginning of this episode, we see Phoebe anxiously wanting to get to work and talking about her billboards over wanting to have some input over her nieces new nursery. This isn't Phoebe. This is Prue. Then you have Paige who already doesn't look like a sister dying her hair red with sloppy acting, quiting her job and becoming a sidekick to Phoebe and Piper. And then my god, what a tiresome storyline with Piper being a crybaby and Leo have way more focus on the show with the baby on the way. Add that to the destruction of Cole's character and more selfishness of the sisters... and the show now being about Witch's who happened to be Sisters...and The Season 5 premier will always be the Jump the Mermaid moment for me. There are some great episodes: Siren Song Sympathy for the Demon A Witch in Time - maybe the best of Season 5 for me.Sam I Am Centennial Charmed Cat House Sense and Sensibility

This isn't Phoebe. This is Prue. This is a good point. After Prue died, a lot of stories that would have fit for one sister in particular seemed to have shuffled around quite a bit. Phoebe was never a career woman. Of course people change as they get older, and one might argue that Prue's death and Cole's betrayal pushed Phoebe to latch onto her career in order to have something neutral to focus on and take her mind off things. But staying so career-focused was not Phoebe. It was indeed more Prue-like. Remember how obsessed Phoebe was with Wyatt after he was born? I can totally see Phoebe wanting to be a part of decorating the nursery, even insisting on it. Her rushing off to work seemed completely out of character. And if Phoebe truly did need an outlet, it would make more sense to have it be something not related to work. Prue is the type of person to become hyper-focused on work. Phoebe is the type to turn to magic, or if she didn't want to because of all that had just happened in the last year, maybe becoming obsessed with practicing her martial arts more, or just something that didn't have to do with work.

Your right. If the rumors are true about five seasons being planned maybe that was a sneak peak into what they had for her

Your right. If the rumors are true about five seasons being planned maybe that was a sneak peak into what they had for her Well perhaps the Phoebe/Cole/Paige love triangle they intended to do in season 5, was planned with Prue. Which actually I wouldn't have minded, considering Shannen and Julian had chemistry. Actually I feel they should of done the reverse Paige staying as a social worker and moving up, and Phoebe quitting The Bay Mirror to find herself again after everything she has been through. Now that might have been a better direction to take both characters starting from season 5.

I especially agree with your last point. The part of becoming more obsessed with martial arts, meditation or yoga. She was always the more free-spirited sister and spiritually balanced. I think it would be incredibly interesting to see Phoebe come out of sadness into the light through putting her efforts into these things to help her find the light again, even through her visions. Phoebe did go through a heck of a lot growing up: Losing Patty, Victor leaving, Grams and Prue's death and then Cole. I don't blame her for wanting out at the end of Season 4 but her journey should have been to come back full circle. The show was about females strength and sorority and a lot of women (and people) struggle with depression, anxiety and mental health issues. It would have been great to explore this avenue and a great lesson for young women/people. Season 5 could have been lighter in this respect and could have been better than the racey-ness of Season 4. And you are entirely right, you could argue that people do change and that it's not far out there to suggest that she went all career focused. I agree with you that Prue's career transferred to Phoebe, Prue's power transferred to Paige and the older sister responsibility went to Piper after her death - they divided it all up and put other personalities on top of existing ones.

He should have stayed dead? In other words, are you saying that the sisters were right to kill him without prejudice or even bothering to find out what happened to him, despite the fact that he became a victim of the Source and the Seer? You find nothing wrong with that? I did. Which is why I dislike the way the Source storyline ended. That is why in my AU stories, the sisters eventually discover the truth and learn a valuable lesson from the entire situation. I'm one who agrees with that Cole should've stayed dead and never got resurrected, and I'm a Cole fan. It has nothing to do with the Charmed Ones having the right to kill him or anything like that. It's more or less wanting to really drive that "tragedy" home with his death. Which even concludes a wonderful ending for the Phoebe & Cole relationship to being a romantic tragedy. Cole is a tragic character, and his S4 death makes so much sense, to me. Better than his death in S5. Part of the reason I don't like S5 as much as S6 and/or S7 is because of the disservice they did to the Cole character in S5. He should've stayed dead to create a beautiful tragic story that is Cole. That aside and to actually answer the OP's question, I don't mind S5. I just have a select few of episodes that infuriate me, and a lot of them have to do with Cole. I don't like the way he was treated by sisters, and I feel like that was worse than them reluctantly trying to kill him, back in S4. On that note, after Cole is no longer in the picture, the season isn't too bad. I still like S6 and S7 better, though.

If Cole stayed dead in S4 and they let Paige stay a social worker and did more with Phoebe dealing with her issues from S4 and not had her date right away. I'd love it more. Still quite a few I disliked though but not as many as S6-S8

Still quite a few I disliked though but not as many as S6-S8 I still like S6 and S7 more than S5. When, I explored this board, waiting to be approved, I was disheartened to see how alone I am in liking S6. I was reading a thread where quite a lot of folks dislike S6. S6 is one of my favorite seasons that has Paige in it, and Phoebe doesn't have a "man of the season" this season.

I do love Drake, Kyra and Zankou. Looking forward to when the board continues the re-watches we do and reach these later seasons to see if I feel differently about some. Sorry to hear that, I do know we have a big S6 fan especially of Chris, but haven't seen them posting in a while. Why don't you share what makes S6 so special to you, maybe you might change some members minds who might see some positives for the season. What about Paige do you love the most in this season? Oh does Jason not count as her man of the season? I'm guessing you mean the entire season right. Because your right after Used Karma she was single. No wait she did have a one off guy or two for her baby daddy quest.

I have noticed some Chris avatars, but their last post (at least where I've been posting), have been 5 years LOL I have been posting in as many Threads that interest me, in all the Subsections for them. I've posted in as many threads in the S8 Subforum, S7 Subforum, S6 Subforum and S5 Subforum. I just reached the S4 Subforum and just expressing my thoughts on the topics that interest me, in each of the subforums. I'll probably post why I like S6, when I'm done "catching up" on all these threads LOL You're absolutely right. Jason was in S6. I guess I meant to say I don't count Jason as a "man of the season", since he carried over from S5. "One-off" men, I don't really count because...well, they didn't last beyond an episode, unlike Leslie who was her S7 "man of the season", and Dex who was her S8 "man of the season".

Whenever you're ready. Looking forward to your thoughts on S6, even If I might feel differently I'll still enjoy reading a different perspective. That makes sense. You are right Jason was a carry over. It's funny that apart from Piper with Leo. Phoebe was the only other sister who had a love interest that lasted more than a season or went into another like Cole and Jason. Everyone else was one season only or multiple episodes at best. I didn't even realize that until now.
