It's the same as my usename. The only difference is in real-life it's spelled 'Saima' :-)

It's the same as my usename. The only difference is in real-life it's spelled 'Saima' :-) So is it pronounced SY-ma or SAI-ma? I always think of you as SY-ma, but would like to do it properly. |

My real name is Jeannie. Ah ha! I wondered if yours was a Czech name - I had a coworker who was originally from the Czech Republic and her name was Jana. Just, please, even if you know what the other person's real name is , please don't call them that on the messageboards. In private messages, sure, but not on the messageboards, since it can seem very cliqueish to newcomers who don't know who these real names refer to. I've always felt that if someone wants to be called by their real name, they should use their real name as their board name, like Cyma did. I always think of my friends online as their board names, even if I know their real name. Their real name is for their Real Life; their board name is for their Charmed life, if that makes sense. It's like I've always known that Jana was Chrisaholic's real name (at the board where we first met, everyone called people by their real names which was extremely confusing to me, the reason why I started asking people not to do that. I never once let anyone know what my real name was at that board - they probably thought my real name is Esmeralda.), but when I think of her, I think of her as Chrisaholic, the same way I never thought of her as Jana, but always thought of her as WyattChris at the other board. Yeah, we both already share our looooooong history on message boards. I do prefer also nicks but I know some boards where it's okay for me to use also my real name. |

All forums are different, here we mostly use our usernames but i've been on others where we always used our proper names.

In the behind the scenes boards I've always used peoples real names and on my web entertainment website & forums we enforce the use of full names whether it's their christian name, real name or a pen name after we're a community of writers, film makers etc so it all helps to promote a more professional impression.
But I don't mind either way really on fan forums such as this one but I've been tempted to revert to my real name for a while now.
My real name is Dan, for those that didn't know.

If you want members to call you Dan on the boards, why not change your username to Dan or Mod Dan or Astral Dan or something like that? Then even newbies will know to call you that and will know who people mean when they mention Dan.

As I said, I don't mind. So I'm undecided at the moment whether or not I will change my name as I always got attached my usernames over the years on the Cafe. I'm someone who has changed my name many a time, I've been dantay, Vengeance, Astral Echo and I'm sure many more names in the past!

My name's Jackie. I don't really care what I'm called by, as long as it's usually related to my username or actual name.
But I'd never have my real name as a username. I'm just not into that. On another board I'm at, my name is in my signature, and most people call me Jackie, just like most people, we call by their name instead of user name, if we know.
I think it has to do with the board environment and the type of person you are and the type of people others are.

yeah its fun to make up a username. Other forums i've been on always use members real names..they have usernames but people just call them by their proper name. Everywhere's different I guess.

My real name is Stephanie. I've always used this username on forums because at the time I joined many many boards and I wanted it to be easier for people to recognize that I was the same person. It worked, since there were about ten boards that all had a similar group of people, so we all knew each other. I'm still friends with some of them on another active forum (not Charmed-related, but it started because of Charmed) as well as Facebook.
