Seeing a thread discussing Paige and her orbing got me thinking of something. If there's one element or story purpose that occurred in the show that got omitted, (and not ones involving prue and shannen staying) how would it effect the series going forward and would it improve or make the show worse?
I was going to make more choices, but seeing as I dont have time, I just left an other choice too.

Some of these are tough choices, but I went with whitelighters never being introduced. From Day One, Leo was never anything more than a walking deus ex machina, and things only got worse after that. Once we started seeing "witchlighters," suddenly being part-whitelighter (or gawd forbid, part-Elder) became more important than anything else, and things like character development took a backseat to "kewl powers." The thought of all the Charmed One's kids being "witchlighters" or some other sort of overpowered hybrid just disgusts me. And, that's not even getting into the Elders and how their entire existence didn't seem to do anything but badly reinforce this show's horribly outdated view of morality.

I was going to make more choices, but seeing as I dont have time, I just left an other choice too. I'm doing this all without looking at the choices. But it's easy for me. I can say it in one word - WHITELIGHTERS! Get rid of them (which includes getting rid of the Elders) and it gets rid of most of what is wrong with Charmed. This particularly means that there can be no such thing as Paige so the series ends after Season Three, the most important thing of all. Second for me is take away the idea of halves - half-whitelighter, half-demon, half-cupid, etc. Dead beings cannot reproduce and demons cannot reproduce with humans Third, get rid of the grey morality. This is a fantasy show! Let the good be good and the evil be evil and never the twain shall meet! Fourth, get rid of the personal gain rule and substitute being punished for exposing magic to non-magicals - and call them *that* rather than innocents or mortals - after all, the sisters are mortal, too, and less innocent than some of the demons. Fifth, when someone is vanquished, they stay vanquished; when someone dies, they stay dead.

Oops, just looked at the choices and looks like you weren't thinking of what I was thinking of.
Hmmm. Whitelighters are still #1 on my list, but if you let us have more choices than that, I'd have to think about it.

I'ld love to see the original seasons planned: Cole crushes the Source and assumes the power in Underworld, Phoebe,in return for having rewinded the time, saving Prue and Piper's life, follows him and becomes the Queen, Prue and Piper try by all means to break their bond....
And no Paige, useless at this point

I too feel like Whitelighters took a lot of the suspense and danger out of Charmed. The same could be said with Piper's explosive power. Why bother acting cautiously when you have a magical taxicab service and a powder keg of a sister to rely on if things get hot? Instead of the sisters taking responsibility for their actions and making it through based on their wits and teamwork they can just have Leo orb them out or have Piper blow the enemy up. It's one of the things that I disliked with later seasons. Whitelighters started becoming more pronounced in Season 3, but up until the finale the sisters were still relying on each other to survive. It was with the introduction of the hybrid Whightlighter known as Paige and the explosive power that there was too much of a cushion for our heroines.

I think it’ld be better if the sisters had only one power, a power growing over the years as in Morality Bite Ultimately, they were the Power of Three

Got that right. Technically, it was Leo that defeated Rex and Hannah at the end of Wicca Envy, not the sisters.
And even if R&H had decided not to kill them (as I said, this was a cliche lifted right out of the 1950's), they would have still been powerless. Either way, without Leo, the sisters would have been screwed.

What's funny is the first thought to pop into my head upon reading the title of this thread was either Cole or Leo. So I too say get rid of whitelighters. Demons became too paint by the numbers as well.
I think the sisters would've been better off dating and eventually marrying mortal men. Chris would've been less whiny if he was half firefighter...

I agree with them dating mortal men. It makes the show have more balance and that's what they did in season 1 with Andy. I think I would of liked a more grounded series if whitelighters didn't come than it means no elders. Also I wished they put a stop to demons throwing fire balls. I hated that introduction too with overdoing it. Demons were just as scary if they didn't all throw fire balls all the time.

Should of waited longer to post thread with more choices. Oh well. I love the things you would remove though.

God! Can I take all of them out? Except P3 H20 because I'm not sure how else Paige could've been introduced. I'm going to go with the Phole 'Rulers of the Underworld' storyline being extended into S5, purely in order to delay the preceding Disney-fication of the show.

It's ridiculous how easy things got for the sisters later on. They basically never had to fear injury or death because there was ALWAYS going to be someone to magically swoop in and heal them at the 11th hour. And, Paige being able to orb meant never having to use a car ever again. And, who needs that Power of Three crap when Piper can just flick her hands? I mean, it's not like they were ever fighting anything more than leather-clad music video extras hurling fireballs, anyways. Combine that with the fancy house, flashy wardrobes, and fantasy careers, and you wonder why the sisters EVER complained about their lives.

Nope, not your bad, West - mine - I should've read your choices before I commented so I'd see that it was actually which storyline would you remove as compared to what I would call elements. My choices wouldn't make sense in your listing. But I'm glad you agree.

I went for one power only. I think that's also okay for each sister.

I can think of four elements:
1) Whitelighters
2) "48 Hours Window of Opportunity" Rule
3) the "Personal Gain" rule
4) the series' Black-and-White morality

What the show needed more than anything else were writers and producers with a 21st Century mindset, not 1960s relics like Aaron Spelling and E. Duke Vincent.

Yeah, those dinosaurs should have been put to pasture long before. Charmed needed someone like Joss Whedon or Eric Kripke in charge.
