#5 Introduction Thread

Merry meet everyone or should I say 'merry meet again?" as I used to be a member here but have long since been gone having lost the link to this site among other things. I doubt anyone would know me so I thought I'd introduce myself again. I'm not sure if there is a set list of questions to answer but...

Name you want to go by: My real name is Natalia (yes it's an A at the end and not an E though I get Natalie ALL the time) for short people call me ALIA as I HATE being called Nat but for many years I have gone by the nickname and user name WITCH
(so any of those is fine with me)

Age: 34

Favorite Charmed character and why: Phoebe. I found I could relate to her the most. She seemed so carefree, romantic, willing to try new things she just spoke to me. I also have one of my dogs named after her so that also helps to and she was always the character I played when I was little or whenever I was doing a role play.

Favorite Season: YICKS.... that is a super hard question ALL of them and all for different reasons. My least fav season would HAVE to be the last though as I felt it was far too rushed.

Favorite Episode: Again.... I don't really have one. If you even asked me to pick my fav from each season I'd have trouble. I love the whole timeline with Cole, I loved when Drake came into things and would have loved to have seen where that went. I love the episode where the sisters went back in time and I always love when they are turned into things. So yea kind of a cop-out I know but it's the only way I can really answer.

Other shows you watch: Hmm nowadays there isn't much Big Bang, Home and Away, Neighbors, Heartland. I used to watch Sabrina the teenage witch, Vampire Diaries, Instant Star, Mcleod's daughters, Once Upon A Time, Merlin


Anything else you want to shear: Lets see. I come from the land Down Under. I've had witchcraft in my life pretty much from the start only to really understand it at 8 and start studying it since the age of maybe 13. I have 4 dogs, love ALL animals though horses are my spirit guides. I am a writer and its where I'm found of most sites I have been a member of though of course I do jump around.

I love meeting new people, spending my days/nights reading, writing, fighting my fuzzies for private time (they just don't seem to get it) and wishing that it snowed here.

I also shear something with the Wicked Witch of Oz and that's her trouble with water. I don't melt but I am Allergic to rain.

I'm also a night owl, mostly found asleep throughout the day and up all night.

Umm... I think that's more than anyone would care to know about me so I'll leave it at that.

Hey people, after re-watching Charmed I read a lot about the background, looked for other people's opinions and ideas about some episodes / storylines and also started to read Fanfiction. Most of the time when googling something I ended up in this forum so I thought I'd sign up myself.

Questions:

Name you want to go by: My nickname is just fine ;-)

Age: 32

Favorite Charmed character and why: Prue. No surprise I guess. I'm a big fan of Shannen, she was the reason I got hooked on Charmed. Prue was my favourite from the beginning, also, being an elder sister myself I could relate to her. Only after a while I realized that I had fallen in love many years earlier (when I was a little girl - my favourite on 90210 was Brenda).

Favorite Season: Season 1

Favorite Episode: That 70's Episode. Hard to pick one after re-watching nowadays, but 20 years ago this one was my favourite.

Other shows you watch: At the moment I'm re-watching Charmed (for the second time in a row), also started with 90210, Melrose Place and Buffy (because I found I fine streaming service which has them all). My favourite shows in general would be: Orange is the New Black, Faking It, Golden Girls, The Nanny, The Simpsons

I just had to pop in and say... I LOVE your username 😊 I’m a fellow Shannen fan myself. I just adore her.

Sadly, I didn’t really know her before 2020, because that’s when I first discovered Charmed. The first thing I saw her in was Beverly Hills, 90210, though, before I saw her in Charmed. (The channel I was watching that had the Charmed reruns on also had 90210 reruns airing, but Charmed was in its later seasons so I didn’t actually know she was in Charmed yet at the time.) I feel like I’ve been living under a rock all these years. I missed some great stuff from her, but I’m glad I’ve been able to watch a lot she’s been in as of late.

That being said, it’s probably no surprise by my username either that Prue’s my favorite character as well. I also find Season 1 to be my favorite of all the seasons. Most of my top five favorite episodes come from Season 1 (Dead Man Dating, From Fear To Eternity, That '70s Episode.) My other two favorites of my top five are Morality Bites and Primrose Empath (this episode is really what made me want to check out other movies/TV Shannen had done, as I was just blown away by how great her acting was in this episode), and my Honorable Mention for Paige (because she’s my second favorite sister) is A Paige From The Past.

My favourite bit is actually when she's laughing at the dentist's, because that's one of the rare scenes where you see Prue laughing that hard. I just love Shannen's laugh.
I also recently watched all the movies she's in that I could get hold of - thanks to Streaming there's more available now here. I also saw Heathers for the first time recently (there's no excuse for not seeing that one yet tho, this one is available) and I absolutely loved it.

The dentist scene is so great. She’s laughing so hard she snorts! Gah, it’s so cute. I love her laugh, too. And her smile. She’s got one of those laughs/smiles that can light up a whole room! Also, her literally saying "oh" before anything Prue does. So adorable.

Primrose Empath just shows how much range Shannen has as an actress. I know she’d done a lot of the more dramatic/emotional scenes with prior episodes, but this one just hits me so much. It’s like I could feel what Prue was going through. (I really love her with Holly at the end of All Hell Breaks Loose, too, it’s just that I have a lot of problems with how the episode itself was written. Shannen’s directing was great, though!) I think this is why I’ve always liked Prue as an empath more (or at least the portrayal of it) than Phoebe as an empath. The struggle of it all. Phoebe’s empathy was okay at some points (she had the potential to do some damage with her power), but some of it was just so bad.

I know the fight scene at the end of Primrose Empath was basically copy paste The Matrix, but I loved her taking on Vinceres. (I think I might be in the minority on here that isn’t bothered by that scene.) And I think—don’t quote me on this, I might be wrong—Shannen actually did her own stunts in this one? I read somewhere she’d actually gotten hurt or something performing this... This makes me love her even more. She’s just such an incredible actress and I admire her dedication to everything that she does. She seems like such a sweet person, too. Wish I could meet her!

I really love watching her in Once Upon A Time, too. I laugh so hard. It looks like her and Alyssa had so much fun in that one. I bet the two made up some of it as they went along. (Prue trying to grab a strand of her hair with her mouth as Phoebe's calling Piper a 'big, extra, extra' jerk. Her randomly whining at Piper after she says she's going to call them a cab. When Cole asks to use the bathroom at the Manor and Phoebe then says, "Number 1 or Number 2?" and we hear Prue say, "He has to go tootie." Or her always being shoes at the ready to go up against the trolls. I’m about crying by the time her and Phoebe come tumbling down the stairs because I’ve been laughing so hard. Phoebe: "Stairs can be sobering?" Prue: "Okay, what was I supposed to say?". So many fun moments.)

Thanks to streaming services and YouTube (even if the quality isn’t always the greatest), I’ve been able to catch some of her TV movies that never got released to DVD. I was so lucky to find a physical copy of Another Day. It was about the time I’d really started liking Shannen, and I decided to do a search on Shannen Doherty DVDs and I found it. It had been listed for a year and NO ONE had bought it. So I had to get it! I haven't seen another copy of that movie show up since.

Don’t feel bad about the Heathers thing. I have it on DVD, but haven’t watched it yet! I feel like a fake fan lol. I know I’m going to like it, though. But I guess I’m saving the best for last? I know if I really let myself, I could blow through her filmography WAY too quickly, and I don’t want to do that.

That being said, though I haven’t watched Heathers yet, I’ve caught some clips of a Disney Channel show she was in on YouTube. The Secret Of Lost Creek or something like that. It was actually not bad, and I’m disappointed I can’t find the entire thing xD At least, not in English. There are videos of the episodes dubbed in German, but as I don’t know German, I can’t enjoy it lol. (I know, of all the things she's been in, I choose to watch this?? But, in my defense, I was looking up clips of her in SNL when she hosted it and it led me to that. Surprisingly, I had a harder time finding anything on that compared to the Disney Channel Show she was in.)

I think of what I watched, my all time favorites of hers are Another Day, Friends 'Til The End (I loved her singing in this, wish she would have done more of that!), View Of Terror, Satan’s School For Girls, and Sleeping With The Devil.

I don’t know if you’ve ever checked out Bethany (if you’re into horror films), but she legit scared me in that one. Such a different side of her acting, but I’m kind of here for it?

Did you check out the movies she was recently in that just aired on Lifetime? Dying To Belong and List Of A Lifetime? I highly recommend both if you haven’t seen them. You might be able to watch them online on Lifetime’s website. (Or someone may have put them on YouTube, even though they’re not supposed to do that.) She’s not in List Of A Lifetime as much, but it is still a really good film surrounding breast cancer. The ending warms my heart!

I found Friends 'Til The End on YouTube, but I wasn't able to watch the movie. Both the image and and the sound quality were so bad. My biggest issue was with sound because it was so bad an low that I wasn't fully able to understand what they were saying (English is not my first language...). However, I knew the songs all along (found them on some fan Charmed website ages ago) and I also like them! She did a pretty good job. I would have loved to have a Charmed musical episode like in Buffer or Grey's Anatomy

I tried to watch them but I'm geoblocked from watching them. Yeah I know there would be ways around this, but at I wasn't willing to make the effort to set this up.

After watching that episode, I had to know if she had done it herself (or, at least, some of it). I can only imagine how much time she put in for preparing for that scene.

I stumbled upon a clip on YouTube a fan had posted of her interacting with Shannen at a convention and I think she was telling the girl something like, not to feel rushed and take her time in regards to something she wanted to ask/do for her photo with her later. Not only that, but Shannen was smiling so much when she was signing her things. It was also interesting to read from a review of "Gone In The Night" that a person who lived where they’d filmed the movie had gotten to watch a scene get filmed and said Shannen had been so nice around them the entire time they were with her, even when they’d asked her if they could get a picture.

There was this one convention panel of hers I watched a while back that made my heart swell with so much happiness. The minute Shannen started to stand up from the couch she was sitting on, I knew exactly what she was going to do... It was the very end of the panel, and the last question that was going to be taken. A girl asked her something along the lines of if there was one celebrity she could meet at a convention, who would it be. So Shannen begins her response, telling her who she’d like to meet, when she suddenly starts to stand up and then says something like, "But you know what would be even better?" Then she’s walking across the stage, talking about how much she appreciates her fans and how if it wasn’t for them, she wouldn’t be doing this, and she continues down the steps to the audience (still talking), gives people high fives as she comes down the one row, until she’s finally to the girl who asked the question. And then she gives her a hug. 😊 Rather than just answering the question, she wanted to give the girl an experience she’d remember for a lifetime when she got to meet her idol 😊

I wasn’t even physically there and I was so happy for that girl! If I had been sitting next to her, I would have been gently nudging her arm and been like, "She’s gonna give you a hug!"

I’m going to have to find this video again. I might have it saved under one of my playlists on YouTube. I’d love to share it with you!

That’s a cute scene, too! I pretty much love her in the entire thing! I mean, I pretty much love her in every scene in Charmed, so... There’s that lol!

You’ll have to let me know how it is then! It might be a little silly (it involves them looking for buried treasure and Bigfoot, but hey, it’s Disney Channel, and I’m a sucker for the older Disney Channel shows as I grew up on this channel), but I still enjoyed what I saw! The last part, Shannen’s character was at a dance, and I think she wanted to ask this one guy out, and I never got to see what happened next because I couldn’t find the rest of it in English (I somehow found parts of episode from them airing it during the Mickey Mouse Club). I was disappointed. And I had no idea if they ever found substantial evidence on Bigfoot being around either. Or if they'd found the treasure. I need to know lol!

I had that problem with Sleeping With the Devil when I first tried to watch it. It was so fuzzy that I couldn’t even tell it was Shannen’s character right away. With Friends 'Til The End, I found the clips of her singing FIRST before I even knew it had to do with this movie. I loved her voice. Thought it was so unique. One of the songs (I think it’s titled "Mental Pollution"; it’s the one with the main lyric, "Does anybody hear me?") gave me Alanis Morissette vibes (she is one of my favorite singers). Probably my favorite of everything she sang in it. Too bad there was never a soundtrack. I would have bought it.

A Charmed musical episode would have been interesting! Although it was a little silly, I loved this in another favorite TV show of mine, Once Upon A Time. I was so impressed by everyone’s voices! Can you imagine, though? Some musical number where the Halliwells were singing and dancing while carrying out their latest vanquish? That would have been something to watch!

(I would have been okay if they’d had the sisters sing together at the club, or something like that. Just as part of an episode with some sisterly bonding moments. 😊)

To be honest, I kind of fast forwarded through some of the stuff just to see her scenes in it ;P Which, of course, made me a little confused about what was going on, but I put it together eventually. (I didn’t read too much into the summary of the movie, and I thought she’d be the one being haunted by Bethany in the present day, but I was obviously wrong.)

The bathroom scene at the end, though (I think it was the last scene we saw her in?)... THAT’S when she really scared me lol. I just imagine after that scene wrapped up, she gave the girl she was acting with a big hug and her being like, "I’m so sorry if I scared you!"

Made me so sad to see the first comment on the video (I watched it on YouTube) was, "Shannen Doherty in a horror movie? Sounds like a punchline to a joke." Me, a diehard Shannen fan reading that: "You take that back right now! She’s amazing in this!"

Favorite Episode: That 70's Episode. Hard to pick one after re-watching nowadays, but 20 years ago this one was my favourite.

Other shows you watch: At the moment I'm re-watching Charmed (for the second time in a row), also started with 90210, Melrose Place and Buffy (because I found I fine streaming service which has them all). My favourite shows in general would be: Orange is the New Black, Faking It, Golden Girls, The Nanny, The Simpsons

I stumbled upon a clip on YouTube a fan had posted of her interacting with Shannen at a convention and I think she was telling the girl something like, not to feel rushed and take her time in regards to something she wanted to ask/do for her photo with her later. Not only that, but Shannen was smiling so much when she was signing her things. It was also interesting to read from a review of "Gone In The Night" that a person who lived where they’d filmed the movie had gotten to watch a scene get filmed and said Shannen had been so nice around them the entire time they were with her, even when they’d asked her if they could get a picture.

There was this one convention panel of hers I watched a while back that made my heart swell with so much happiness. The minute Shannen started to stand up from the couch she was sitting on, I knew exactly what she was going to do... It was the very end of the panel, and the last question that was going to be taken. A girl asked her something along the lines of if there was one celebrity she could meet at a convention, who would it be. So Shannen begins her response, telling her who she’d like to meet, when she suddenly starts to stand up and then says something like, "But you know what would be even better?" Then she’s walking across the stage, talking about how much she appreciates her fans and how if it wasn’t for them, she wouldn’t be doing this, and she continues down the steps to the audience (still talking), gives people high fives as she comes down the one row, until she’s finally to the girl who asked the question. And then she gives her a hug. 😊 Rather than just answering the question, she wanted to give the girl an experience she’d remember for a lifetime when she got to meet her idol 😊

I wasn’t even physically there and I was so happy for that girl! If I had been sitting next to her, I would have been gently nudging her arm and been like, "She’s gonna give you a hug!"

I’m going to have to find this video again. I might have it saved under one of my playlists on YouTube. I’d love to share it with you!

Same thoughts here exactly. I always thought that the song is actually called "Does Anybody Hear Me?".

I found the video! It was at the Facts Convention in Belgium in 2019.

It looks like there were actually two videos from the panel. I watched the panel from Sunday, and this is the one where she goes to hug the fan at the end. I’m assuming the other video is from a Saturday panel. I haven’t even watched that one! I don’t know how I missed it!

Favorite Charmed character and why: My favorite Charmed character that is of the Halliwell sisters is Piper.  I think she's the least seflish and rude of them all.  And, I do agree with what their mother (Patty) said "you're the heart of this family, Piper".  My favorite Charmed character that isn't any of the Halliwell sisters is Cole.  I love his complexity and somberness.  I'm a sucker for tragic characters.  In turn, I love/admire/cherish the Phoebe & Cole relationship.  Yes, it is toxic and not healthy, but I'm not watching the show to look for relationship advice.  The couples need to bring more than just "we're happy and healthy", in order for me to be entertained.  All shows have their couples go through toxic and unhealthy situations.  It's normal for the Phoebe & Cole relationship to go through such lengths, in order to be, together.  Which is where I feel like the Piper & Leo couple lacked, in comparison, but I digress and sort of didn't quite stay on the initial topic, and I apologize for the rant.

Favorite Season: Season 1 remains my all time favorite season.  It started off the series so strongly.  Plus, it has another favorite character of mine (that isn't one of the sisters) in it, as well, and that's Andy.  It's unfortunate he's only available in this season.  S1 is a good season with Prue, in it.  But, if you were to ask me my favorite season with Prue, I'm going to say S3.  I felt she was more balanced out, in S3 compared to her S1 counterpart.  My favorite season with Paige is S5, but I'm not quite a fan of S5, in general.  I much prefer S6 and S7 over S5.  But, like with Prue, S5 is Paige's best season, IMO.  Again, I digress.

Favorite Episode: Such a tough choice to pick a singular episode.  My favorite episode in S1 is "The Power of Two" episode.  This has Andy in it as much more of an ally than just a love interest, for Prue.  While, it lacks the Piper character, it's still a good episode to watch the dynamic of the sisters enlisting the help of others outside of the magical community.  My favorite episode in S2 is "Morality Bites" because it's a great lesson in knowing the difference between protecting the innocent and punishing the guilty.  My favorite episode in S3 is "The Good, the Bad and the Cursed".  One of my favorite Alyssa Milano performances.  My favorite episode in S4 is "Long Live the Queen".  It was a great tragic moment to end the Phoebe & Cole relationship.  My favorite episode in S5 is "The Day Magic Died".  The episode was hilarious, and it really showcased Piper's strength, as a mother, and how far she's willing to go, to protect her baby, even if it isn't born, yet.  My favorite S6 episode is "The Power of Three Blondes".  IK it seems silly, and it is more of a guilty pleasure pick rather than a "serious episode", but I like to have fun watching the show, as well.  And, it does have its serious moments, and the Blondes were really close in destroying the Charmed Ones.  My favorite S7 episode is "Charmed Noir".  I love noirs, and I love Brody (wish we got more of him, but I digress).  My favorite S8 episode is "The Lost Picture Show".  It was nice to see Sam, again and give more depth to the Billie (I like her, too) character.  Along with showcasing how strong Paige actually is.  Looking at my list, now...I'll probably choose "The Power of Two" episode, from S1.  But, the other episodes are still really good.

Other shows you watch: I watched Buffy up to the first episode of S6.  I've seen bits and pieces of scenes from Angel.  Another Joss Whedon (IK he's going through some nasty legal cases, ATM, but this doesn't negate some of the work he's done, that I do like.  I do separate the art from the artist, but I digress) show ('cause he did both Buffy and Angel) I like is Firefly.  I did follow Kaley Cuoco (Billie) into The Big Bang Theory, and I really like that.  I heard she's voiced Harley Quinn for the Harley Quinn Animated Series, but I have yet to watch it, despite liking Batman media.  Speaking of Batman media, I do enjoy the series Gotham.  I'd place Gotham as my second favorite TV show next to Charmed, OFC.  I've watched a few "reality" TV shows, as well, but the one I like the most would be King of the Nerds.  I've re-watched several episodes and seasons of that show, as well.  That's really all of the shows I can think of that I've watched, enjoyed and have re-watched.  I've seen other shows but not enough to really enjoy watching/re-watching them to list.

Anything else you want to tell us I don't like Phoebe and wished she would've died instead of Prue.  Phoebe was fine from S1-S4x13.  After that (S4x14-S8), I can't stand her.  I (often) fantasize how the series would've gone down had all four of them stuck around or no Phoebe.  I don't hate Paige and really enjoyed her character.

EDIT: I'm not on ProBoards much.  But, when I'm around more active people, I tend to be equally as active, as well.  I'm a part of other Charmed groups on FB and Reddit.  I love the show and love talking about the show with anybody willing to talk about it LOL

I've hosted my own Charmed communities, elsewhere, since 2006, but I haven't done much with them. I've been a part of other people's Charmed communities since this year (2021).

How do you feel about the finale and the way the show ended? (a) loved it, (b) liked it, (c) had mixed feelings, (d) disliked it, (e) hated it?
(C) Had mixed feelings. I think the tail end of how it ended is better than the tail end of S7E22 "Something Wicca This Way Goes", but I still think we could've gotten a Prue photo, like this post says, here:
