It's pretty evident, that the fan base is split in what they like from the show, so here's a little poll to help us figure it all out ;P
EDIT: I'm a S1, S3a & S5b-S7a fan. For the most part, I like splashes from each season. I'm just a fan of S1, S3a & S5b-S7a more ;P

I like all of it. I did not like certain episodes in each season and certain characters annoyed me in certain parts of it but I still loved all of the seasons.

I like all of it. I did not like certain episodes in each season and certain characters annoyed me in certain parts of it but I still loved all of the seasons. I'm the same, TBH. I like splashes of all of the seasons. I just know that I watch a lot of S1, S3a (some of S3b) and S5b (some of S5a) - S7a (some of S7b). Though, with forcing myself to watch episodes, I don't normally watch (I finished S8, now I'm re-watching S2, IKR?), to give myself a much more "fresh", perspective. I still feel like I'm not a fan of S2, like I've always been. Piper & Dan still infuriate me, and I'm sad that Phoebe & Dan were a missed opportunity. Re-watching "Awakened", in S2, and I found this moment (of Phoebe & Dan hugging) between the two, and it's like...Phoebe & Dan are the couple that should've been. I feel NOTHING between Piper & Dan, and I get sick to my stomach, everytime Piper & Dan kiss. They're so gross, yuck! Team Phoebe & Dan, forever! But, I digress LOL

The Dark Era.
I loved the gothic element, I loved the the sisters and their relationship, I do however wished Piper brought Quake and renamed it to Halliwell's instead of opening P3 since they were adults I would have preferred them to be in an adult setting rather than be in a nightclub with Prue also buying Buckland but that's just my preference.

Yeah I wish they had kept to witchcraft, wicca and Celtic mythology rather than magic and greek/roman.

Yeah I wish they had kept to witchcraft, wicca and Celtic mythology rather than magic and greek/roman. I wished they had kept that too. I really wish they had the Wheel Of The Year (Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas, Mabon). I wish too that they didn't cheap out and placed the pentagram or the pentacle as an evil symbol since it represents the five elements (Air, Fire, Water, Earth, Spirit/Aether).

I'm a Prue era fan at my core. I know S3 is when the rot started but the overall quality of the show was still strong. It's the last season of the show which I can watch in its entirety and it's the last one that remembered the fundamentals of the show in my opinion. You can see that in episodes like "All Halliwel's Eve" and "Pre-Witched". In that latter one, you have Piper putting sisterhood above her desire to have a more normal life with Leo by moving out. It's actually an incredibly powerful moment and it showed that Piper still had her priorities in order this season despite her moments of obnoxiousness.
Phoebe's behaviour within the Cole storyline is still awful but at least she gets called out for her actions in this season unlike in later years. Thankfully, she still cared about helping innocents and her premonition power was used effectively.

Good job.

I like the way you explain it and would agree if the series ended with the wedding, but I hate how Prue changes so I stuck with the sisterly seasons, even if I don't like the way Piper treats both Leo and Dan in S2, and I don't like Prue at the beginning of S1. I'm truly a last-half S1 through first-half S2 Charmed fan (from 'From Fear to Eternity' to 'Murphy's Luck') the only time I love all three sisters, except for some episodes when I'd see the sisters I love in that period. But I'll always be glad I don't like most of the rest of it because it makes it such fun to work on alternate realities. If every fan liked every episode, this site would no longer exist because when everyone agrees, threads are very short and eventually boring and the site gone.

Even though I liked Cole and Leo and wished that they were secondary characters than the main, I enjoyed when they found the actual murderer letting Prue off the hook, I kinda agree with you but maybe they should have been written better. I couldn't understand even after 10+ years of watching Charmed, why they decided that a nightclub would have been the best environment for the sisters to be in and not a restaurant? With Buffy I could understand why, they were teenagers to young adults however the Charmed Ones were established to be adults.

why they decided that a nightclub would have been the best environment for the sisters to be in and not a restaurant? In the What If thread, I posted here about: -What if Phoebe owned P3 instead of Piper? Because Phoebe was still a young adult growing into maturity compared to her sisters Prue & Piper. I think Phoebe owning the club would've made more sense, IMO and the "hang out" being over there because she does love her sisters and wants to be around them. Meanwhile, both Prue & Piper would be picking up her slack especially Piper LOL I do like the concept of P3 but just think Phoebe should've owned it, instead, personally especially earlier Phoebe.

Me either, I don't get why they wanted a nightclub, it was so out of character for Piper to want one. I think this was a demand from the WB. Like you said, they were adults, but, Phoebe would enjoy a nightclub I think still, since she was still rather young in her early to mid 20s, but certainly not Piper and Prue, the later nearly 30. Now if the sisters visited some nightclub somewhere in town here and there, sure, but a permanent location. They didn't really do anything longterm, other than promote bands, and did they ever really dig deep into Piper as a business owner, we barely saw much from her working, than than needing scenes at P3 when a band played. I wanted Piper to have a restaurant. If not, why not or just stay at Quake longer, and or take over it at some point. Maybe in S4, Prue leaves Piper some money in her will, which she then uses to open up her own restaurant.

With Buffy I could understand why, they were teenagers to young adults however the Charmed Ones were established to be adults. Hmm… Well, out of universe, I presume it was because they wanted to be have an excuse to slip more music into the episodes than the opening San Fran montage would allow, and possibly an excuse to put the leads into sexier outfits than the classy kind of restaurant Piper would run would let them get away with. Not to mention ‘teenagers to young adults’ were really their target demographic, so they’d want something that would appeal to them, like a night club. In-universe? It might have been partly because the only location Piper was able to secure wouldn’t really have been suitable (not sure exactly where P3 is supposed to have been located, so I have no real idea what the neighborhood was like), or building codes or the like. But personally? I think it was a strictly pragmatic, cost-to-benefit ratio calculation. As I recall, the space she was able to secure was pretty much empty when she got it. She would have had to get furniture, booths (meaning construction), proper lighting, and possibly renovation of the restrooms either way, but a club only required stage equipment for the bands and a minimal kitchen (again, I have no idea what was on P3’s menu, but I doubt it was more than simple appetizers at most), unlike the no doubt very expensive kitchen equipment (how much do multiple high-quality stoves, ovens, grills, and the like cost?) a restaurant would require. Would they be gas stoves or electric? If the former, that would be even more renovations. And all of that’s not even getting into how uncertain things can be when starting up a new business, especially food service. Would she have been able to attract enough customers to break even, to say nothing of getting ahead, long enough for word to spread about the awesome new restaurant located… wherever P3 was? Because even the club wasn’t doing very well until Leo managed to get Dishwalla to perform there (for plot reasons, yes, but I’m sure it did occur to him how doing so would help Piper), which isn’t something he would have been able to do for a restaurant. Also… I’m pretty sure successful clubs pull in more money than busy restaurants, especially when they have high profile bands playing there, and given that they were a two-income household at the time (and when Prue jumped careers to become a freelance photographer, it was really more like one-and-a-half), that definitely would have been an important factor in her thinking. After all, she did eventually open her dream restaurant. She just needed the club to help get her there.

I could see Phoebe being into the nightclub scene, I agree with the fact that Prue and Piper wouldn't have been so into it, I understand that Quake wasn't a great working environment for Piper but I wished that Piper could have opened up something different like a Café or something along those lines, it would make sense for her, it doesn't have to be a fine dining restaurant but I definitely could see Piper owning a Cafe with Phoebe being a waitress. They really didn't, it's not like anything really happened there, other than the reunion and a 1940s theme party. I just believe that Piper would enjoy something like a Café more over a Nightclub. She could have then expanded into a fine-dining restaurant at the end of the series if she would have liked.

I agree that the network likely had them in a nightclub to put them in club-type outfits and have music, things meant to be easy for younger people to be drawn to. I'll always wish they had just let the characters be more themselves, though.
Piper didn't have to go from restaurant manager straight to restaurant owner, nor did she have to go straight to owning a business in a building either. It would have made sense for her to open her own catering company that she ran out of the manor kitchen, and expanded from there. That way she can still be involved in food, but have a more realistic path to becoming a restaurant owner.
If they really wanted to include a nightclub, they could have had a love interest of one of the sisters be the owner or manager, or perhaps they make friends with another witch who is in one of those positions, and they (especially Phoebe, because it's her type of environment) are there once every few episodes.

I think they had them in a nightclub in order to promote the various bands that were part of the Warner Brothers family. I would've preferred Piper with her restaurant across the street from a popular nightclub. Although I loved her when she catered, so catering out of the Manor is a great idea, too.

Her catering in a few S1 eps was so much fun. A nice way to have her interacting with potential innocents along the way. But like you Es. I would prefer a restaurant across the street from a nightclub.

I liked splashes of all the seasons, but I definitely have a strong preference for what you call "the sisterly era". Later seasons had them feeling more like witchy roommates who happened to be sisters with an emphasis on their powers than sisters who happened to be witches. It also seems like once Brad Kern took over, he turned them into sex objects.

I definitely have a strong preference for what you call "the sisterly era". I call it "The Sisterly Era" because they felt more like sisters, in these seasons, compared to the rest of the show. My research shows that some feel like S3 was the decline of the show because they weren't as "sisterly", and I do have to agree with that assessment. It's not really an opinion matter, it's a fact that S1-S2 are their most "sisterly" seasons. Whether or not that appeals to the viewers, is a different story. While I enjoy their sisterly moments, IMO that's not going to hold my attention, as a viewer. It may hold the attention of others, and that's OK, too. Later seasons had them feeling more like witchy roommates who happened to be sisters with an emphasis on their powers than sisters who happened to be witches. Exactly. It also seems like once Brad Kern took over, he turned them into sex objects. IDK the specifics of when exactly Kern took over, but I did notice more revealing clothing being worn as early as S2 (which is part of "the Sisterly Era" set). I was under the impression he didn't begin taking over until S3 due to Constance's departure, from the show. I've been re-watching S2 and couldn't help but notice the change in wardrobe compared to S1. And, how much more revealing the attire was. I'm not exactly sure Kern is to blame, here, for the more revealing attire. Not that I'm against more revealing clothes, I'm just pointing out what I noticed. S2 may have slipped under the radar for how "summery" the entire season felt.
