Warm and sunny (thank goodness!). *sigh of relief* Why the "thank goodness"? Simple. Those of us here in Indiana (and especially in central Indiana) have had a pretty rough end of May / beginning of June so far. - Severe thunderstorms with tornadoes on 5/30 (one of which touched down not 5 miles from where I live), 6/03, & 6/04
- Flooding rains on 6/06, 6/07, and 6/09
Sure seems like ol' Mother Nature is really ticked off at Indiana for some reason, doesn't it? Apparently this is the worst flooding since 1913. Of the 92 counties in the state of Indiana, 29 (yes, 29) of them are declared disaster areas due to the flooding. And the preliminary (not even the final -- the preliminary) damage estimates are right around $126 million. It's a right mess, lemme tell ya. Fortunately, we're going to have couple of dry days which should help the folks in the flooded areas (which include Terre Haute, Columbus, and southern parts of Indy) out. Parts of major roads (Interstate 65 S, Interstate 70 W) are / were still closed due to damage or still being covered by water. The strange thing is that many of the areas that are flooded aren't even located in flood plains, so those people don't even have flood insurance to cover this type of damage. It's not only sad, and but also is something that really makes you count your blessings. |

^ Yup. It sucks, to put it mildly. And I really do feel for the people that have been flooded out or had storm damage. Thankfully, I'm not one of the ones affected by the flooding -- it's mostly in the counties to the west, east, or south of where I live. And since I don't live near a river, lake, pond, stream, etc., I should be all right. Back to the game... Still sunny and warm (near 90!)  |
