Okey dokey, Part five in the house!
Afterlife - Episode One: Part Five “Trust you!? You just froze a nun, how do I know you aren’t the bad ones?” Paige barks. We all knew she would go looking for answers especially now that there are so many questions to ask. Piper had even been the first to mention checking for her at the church. All Paige does is try to run away from them though, ‘leave me alone’ is all she would offer them. I have to admit that right now I am almost looking at a mirror image of myself when I lost Andy. Every time the subject of magic came up I always wanted to say ‘Leave me alone!’ too. But this is one of the answers she was looking for, why she came to this church. She wanted to know who she really is and this is part of it. Magic is in her blood as it is ours. She is trying to run away from part of herself, but she can’t; no one can. We all had to learn and accept that; I had not been the only one to try to run away from magic. It has a tendency to get in the way of all our lives, but it follows us wherever we go even before we know it. If only I could talk to Paige and help her to understand what it really means to have magic in her life, that its ok to be afraid of it at first, we were too when we first discovered it. Although it’s scary and can get in the way of our loves; it can also have its strong points, and that our sisters really need her.
I also admit that Piper and Phoebe did not approach her in the right manner. Freezing the nun when they barged in on her in the back room of the church was not the smartest move. But I know Piper can’t help it; she is just taking every opportunity given to her to release her anger and pain. I don’t blame her I had the same feelings when I lost Andy. Pain and guilt, and questioning the meaning and point of magic since it had let us down. Magic is definitely a love/hate deal you can praise it one minute and then loath it a minute later. I never understood before why Piper had wanted to abandon her powers when Aunt Gail stole them for the demon Cryto; the way I do now or even the way I did when I lost Andy. Loosing someone you love is a price that we never thought we would have to pay because magic can do anything right? Wrong! Even thinking about it now, not even my own death can compare to the pain I felt when I saw Andy lying on the debris ridden floor of the manor; lifeless eyes wide open sending a metaphorical knife through my still beating heart. I lay crying in his cold lifeless arms until police and corners came to take him away and Darryl took me by the shoulders urging me to my feet. As I slowly blink I feel my being go cold as the picture flashes before my mind’s eye. I softly gasp as my eyelids re-open.
“What is it, are you alright?” Andy asks. I just sigh and lay my head on his shoulder. I miss a good portion of the conversation below us between my sisters as I had gotten lost in my thoughts.
“I have a power?” Paige asks. What? They told her that she has powers? Wait how did she not know that after having panic-orbed on the roof of P3 when Shax attacked her? She had to have felt her body doing something. Although what do I know? I don’t know what it feels like to be a whiteligher, or part whitelighter for that matter.
“Good job guys keep it up, you’ve got her.” I comment. I feel like a director’s commentary since all I can do is make comments about their actions from the sidelines that they can’t hear and respond to.
“According to the prophecy the third sister has the power to move things with her mind; like Prue did.” Piper says. What? She can’t have the same power as me! Is that why I was having trouble with my powers when I sent them that message on the spirit board? Are they being drained and given to her? I don’t see that logical, she is technically the fourth sister not the third and Grams and mom still have their powers in death. This makes no sense to me.
“How does it work?” Paige asks.
“You concentrate on an object like that candle over there,” Phoebe answers pointing to a lit candle that sits in a tall candle holder on the other side of the room. “And you just wave your arm at it.”
She demonstrates by waving her own arm; Paige mimics but the movement in her arm is very apathetic and careless. Nothing happens, and Paige looks back to Piper and Phoebe.
“Or uhh you could squint your eyes. She used to squint her eyes.” Piper says. Paige turns back to the candle and adds a squint as she waves her arm again; still apathy in the movement. Still nothing happens. She turns back to Piper and Phoebe again with a shrug.
“Well maybe I am not one of you after all if I can’t even make that candle…” she begins holding out her hand to gesture at the candle and it becomes surrounded in bright whitelighter lights, disappears and reappears in her open hand. Her eyes widen as she stares at what she has done. “Oh”.
“So perhaps the whitelighter in her makes it work differently.” Phoebe says as she takes the candle from Paige, blows it out and sets it aside.
“Half Breed.” I say and surprisingly Piper says it with me. Paige still stares at the empty hand where the candle had mysteriously appeared without her moving it.
“Prue give her a chance.” Andy says and gives me a kiss on the cheek. “She is the link that can reproduce the power of three, so your sisters can still live the destiny they begun with you. I like her; I think she has a lot of potential. She had the right attitude she just isn’t directing it in the right place at the moment because she is scared.”
“Wow, you know for not having known our secret for that long, I think you might be right.”
“Well I have been watching you for two years does that count for nothing?”
I look into his deep blue eyes and smile.
“She had better be here Oracle; I’m running out of time.” A familiar deep scary voice says. Paige’s boyfriend blazed onto the church grounds and took long quick steps towards the entrance.
“No!” I breathe and suddenly I collapse into Andy’s arms; barely hearing him alarmingly cry “Prue!?”, and appear on the ground next to the church. Paige’s boyfriend is a few paces in front of me and I squint my eyes, focusing on him. Nothing happens. Damn, I need to find out what is going on with my powers. I try using my arm and manage to trip him to the ground. He immediately stands up and jerks around blaring fiery black eyes right at me.
“Oh sh!t!” I cry.
“You!” he growls.
“Stay away from my sisters!” I bark knowing that he is no threat to me. I squint my eyes again so angry at him, and he flies up does a spin in the air and clunks back to earth. He stands up and all of a sudden my being is burning, I see orange swirling around me. I can see his beady black snake eyes focus on me from outside the curtain of orange flames swimming in the air. I am screaming; my face is soaked in tears. Then a second later it’s all of a sudden all over like it had all just been my imagination, my fears consuming my soul.
“That was a warning! One wrong move and I can destroy your soul, consume you to nothingness!” he roared as he had his fingers digging into my throat. Roaring that is not his fills the air, and he releases me falling to the ground in pain as the gargoyles lining the church walls above the entrance don’t allow him to pass. I fell back sobbing, as my butt hits the ground my astral self disincarnates and returns to my being above.
“Oh my God!” Andy cries clutching me tight. “What the hell was that?”
“S-S-S-Source!” I hardly get out through the tears and breathlessness from fear. I steer my eyes below to make sure he does not attack my sisters.
“What he hell is going on out there?” I hear Piper say.
“Is that the Gargoyles?” Phoebe asks.
“Gargoyles?” Paige asks. “You mean statues?”
Paige’s boyfriend reaches out his hand from his pain and opens the church door; twisting his position to appear as a victim of an attack.
“Paige!” he moans, reaching his arm out for her.
“Shane?” Paige breathes and runs to his side.
“NO!” I sob.
“What’s the matter, my God what happened?” She kneels to his level and helps him to his feet.
Phoebe gasps.
“Piper, the message on the spirit board!”
“
Paige’s Boyfriend” Piper recites.
“Come on lets get out of here.” Paige says to Shane.
“No get away from him!” Phoebe blurts out. Paige turns and glares at her.
“How dare you! You don’t even know him. Come on Shane.”
They turn and begin to leave, Shane than turns back and fires a red bolt from his eyes and Piper and Phoebe sending them sliding all the way back down the isle yelling.
“That’s what the spirit board had been trying to tell us. He’s the source.” Phoebe said.
“What on earth are you doing!?” The once frozen sister Agnes has her arms crossed looking displeased at Piper and Phoebe.
