So I went by the Manor tonight like I usually do, and there was a sign out front advertising an open house this weekend. I can't even tell you all how excited I am!!! Anyone else in the area want to meet up? Tickets are 20 bucks, and we actually get to go in the Manor. I know nothing was filmed inside, but it's going to be so fun to see inside, and take pictures. www.ahtrolley.org/events.html for more information!

Just remember, the inside of the house is far from what you saw on Charmed. Only the exterior is the same.

Los Angeles. 90026 knows this (the address of the actual manor). Up until now, no one has been allowed inside, this is the very first time there is an actual open house, where you can see the actual inside of the real manor. But it could be fun if some one here from the board took the tour and brought along a digital camera

Well, you've made my weekend. What else is there to do in LA when it's going to be 90+ degrees through Sunday. I refuse to go to the swap meet in Saugus where I usually am a vendor. So, here we come Echo Park!
But, it is the manor used in the Lori Rom pilot, was it not?
I'll be there on Sunday. Hope to see some of you!
Hansemand, I am going to buy a digital camera this weekend (in order to sell some lps on e-bay). However, I have no clue how to upload stuff so I am going to have to rely on the service rep to tell me what to do.

Just give me a call, I'll be glad to show you how to upload to and link to pictures stored on Photobucket. Tip on digital camera: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W120. Its a very small compact camera and delivers smacking 7.2 Mpix. If you by a 1GB Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo, then there is room for 318 pictures in 7.2Mpix quality on the card or about 13 minuttes of video in 640x480 (High Quality).

It was really neat. The owner was there answering questions, and when no one was around, I asked him how the house got to be featured on Charmed.
He said he was approached, and asked if the producers could film the pilot there (with Lori Rom.) He said that they liked the attic at the house across the street more (which is also a house he owned and was allowing people inside to see today.) It's actually 1320, not 1350 as someone had mentioned.
I had started taking photos, and the owner has asked me to stop, so of course I did.
As soon as you walk in, to the left is the staircase going upstairs, and it looks VERY similar to the set staircase in the show. It was really cool to stand there, and I did get a photo which as soon as someone can teach me how to post, I will.
The kitchen still looks the same as it did in the unaired pilot, and it's in the back of the house. I also got a nice photo of the backyard. Certain areas were roped off, so I didn't get to go upstairs, or in the attic of his other home across the street.
He said that through out the 8 years, A LOT of external scenes were shot at the house (including All Hell Break's Loose). He said the cast and crew regularly came to film, and most people were very respectful of the house, but sometimes a director would get anxious, or in a hurry to get something done and not be as nice to the house as he would like.
The man was REALLY nice, and so was his wife. I hope this is an annual thing, because I would love to go back again next year.

As coolwave mentioned, it was not possible to take photos inside the Charmed house. Indeed, this was the only one of the eight houses that did not allow pictures to be shot inside. However, I did manage several pictures of the petite foyer. For those of you who know the Halliwell Manor well, the "Charmed" house at 1329 Carroll Avenue bears no interior resemblance despite the claim on a paper affixed to the wall of the front parlor that floor plans were copied. Inside the foyer, which is no larger than a medium sized freight elevator, there is the stairwell. It is narrow and must manage a ten-foot rise to the second story in the space of about 8 feet. If you've seen the railing of the Halliwell manor, then that railing is an exact replica of the "Charmed" house. Murray, the owner, was quite glib and answered lots of questions. I also spoke with Adam who works for the LA Conservancy and resides as a tenant upstairs in one of the four bedrooms. (There is one bath upstairs.) Unfortunately, although there is the same reddish wood frame, the upstairs has not been refurbished and was not included in the tour. The chandeliers in the house were not original; but, unlike other houses on the block, this house was never a boarding house. Before the present owner, the previous owner resided in the house from 1920 - 1971. Down the street on the corner there was a bordello, now occupied by 20ish males. Across the street - and also one of the houses on the tour - was a gorgeous house used in East of Eden. The red room - opium den - was featured in this house which probably was a speakeasy during the 20s. In the 30s, it was definitely a boarding house because the present owner met one of the previous tenants (age 109 at the time) when she bought the house in the 70s. He admitted to painting a red-rosed ceiling white because he didn't like the color. I will try to upload all of my photos onto my site - charmedverse.proboards74.com. I will post the best here as well. Just be patient. I haven't a clue how to do this. P.S. I also took photos of the house next door, the exterior of which was used in Size Matters. The outside still looks the same since that owner chose to refurbish the interior before tackling the exterior.

My favorite part was when the owner said
"I wasn't too interested in the show, as it was targeted at preteen girls"
And being a guy, I said... "and boys... " it was kinda funny

Well, he also was rather drole when he noted that he and his current wife had been a couple for 17 years before they got married. He's probably in his 60s. She is the pack rat and they apparently live in one of the houses across the street. Between them, they own several of the houses. When he bought the manor in 1971 for $20,000 (I believe), he had little interest in architecture, etc. That all came later when he realized what he had.
That's unsurprising since, as a USC student in the mid-70s, living in Craftsman style homes was not odd at all in North University Park. They're everywhere. Some are rented out to students. Some are frat houses.
By the way, the Size Matters house and the one next to it were trucked in from Montrose (about 50 miles away). They are not original to the block, which at the time sported many vacant lots. Also, the 1300 and 1400 blocks of Carroll are the only two blocks in Angelino Heights where the power lines are buried. This was done in the mid-90s. That's why you won't ever see any power lines in the Charmed exterior shots: not along the streets and not in the backyard.
