Naming The Next Generation

The names of the next generation are a widely discussed topic throughout Charmed boards. So I thought that this topic would be a nice addition to The Charmed Cafe.

Piper has Wyatt and Chris and fans have named her future daughter, Melinda. Phoebe has three unnamed daughters. And Paige has unnamed twins and Henry Jr.

I'd want the tradition of "P" names to continue but there aren't that many great female "P" names. I know there's a series out there that someone did called "Torn" that was about Paige's family. It had her two daughters called Pandora and Phoenix. Those seem like names Paige would choose because they're based in mythology.... and of all the sisters that's what she tends to gravitate towards.

When it comes to Phoebe's daughters... I'm thinking she should name one after Grams (have one be Penelope)... I also like the name Petra. A couple other "P" names I found were Portia and Paula.

Let's see what everyone else picks...

foxfire, I like those names for Paige's daughters. The whole mythology thing does seem like something Paige would do.

As for Phoebe's daughters, I'm thinking that, yes, naming one of them after Grams would be nice. In addition perhaps naming one of them after Patty.

As for "Melinda" I like to think Piper would give a nid to Prue somewhere in her daughter's name.

I'll stick to the names I used in my "Charmed Forever"

The next set of Charmed Ones: Patty, Prue and Penny

Paige's twins: Charlotte and Cassandra (named after Melinda Warren's mother and granddaughter)

Piper's daughter: Prudence Melinda, but unlike her cousin, called Melinda. We have cousins in my dad's family who are all named after my grandpa and this is how we handle it.

Naturally, all this assumes that Forever Charmed really happened, since I don't think it did.

These are the names I'm using in my fanfiction Warren.

(IMO) Phoebe kept the 'P' tradition. In my fanfiction Warren I had her name them (in order) Peyton, Pamela and Phoenix respectively. My initial instinct was to name them Penelope, Patricia and Prudence but I decided that that idea was to commonly used.

For Paige I had her the eldest twin Pandora and the younger Patience. I would change Henry Junior's name if I could but I don't have any control when it comes to that aspect as his name was specifically stated on screen.

And then finally I named Piper's daughter Melinda. In Warren she was originally Prudence but I changed that when I noticed that all of the girls possessed 'P' names.

I would name Pipers daughter Melinda because she saw her in the future.
Phoebes kids I like the names Penny, Patty, Prue.

And Paige I think I would name one Cassandra and one Pandora...

I think Phoebe probably got pregnant with "Ladybug" before Piper got pregnant with her daughter and so I think that Phoebe would've snatched up Prudence for her daughter's name.

Then I think Piper had her daughter, so I think she would've named her Melinda as she'd always planned to do.

For Phoebe's second and third daughters, I think she'd keep to the "P" tradition and name them Patricia and Penelope, perhaps even in that order.

And for Paige's girls, as much as I like Cassandra and Charlotte, I don't think that's what she'd name them. The original three sisters know about Charlotte from going to the past, but Paige didn't, so I don't think it would have as much sentimental value to her and I really don't see her as the "I'm going to look at the family tree and find two random names that start with the same letter" kind of person.

I think that one of her Twins would be named after her adoptive mother, but since we never found out her adoptive mother's name, I don't know what that would be. Depending on what her adoptive father's name was, it's possible she could've named the other Twin a feminine version of his name. Or, she could've named one of the Twins Samantha after Sam, if he followed through with his promise from "The Lost Picture Show" to stay in Paige's life. (It's also possible that if she named the Twins after her adoptive parents, Henry Jr.'s middle name could've been Samuel.) Or Paige could've went totally non-traditional and gave them names she just liked. (She's got a personality that I can certainly see doing so.) And either way, I think her kids would have the last name Matthews.

I definitely think their names would be elegant. Like Cassandra or Prudence. They would be lengthy names like that, I think. But I think they would break the tradition of 'P' names. I think the girls wanted to be original, so I think they'd have unique names.

Phoebe was never as close to Prue as Piper was, which is why I think Melinda would actually be named Prudence Melinda but called Melinda, even if Ladybug is older, and I like the idea of Phoebe naming Ladybug after the mother I think she always missed much more than she missed Prue.

I admit I had Phoebe name her middle daughter Prue just so the next set of Charmed Ones would be named after their deceased mother, sister and grandmother (and I named the youngest after Grams just because the name Penny sounds like the baby) Thinking about Phoebe however, she probably would've named her middle daughter Phoebe!

You are probably right about Paige grabbing different names for the twins, probably after her adopted parents if not just names she likes.

Like you, I truly don't see her naming her son Henry, Jr. and I don't see Henry wanting that either (typical male-centric Kern!). Much as she tends to be independent and a bit quirky, I think if they are going to let the kids have the last name of Matthews (not certain if I agree with that, but I can go with it.) that she'd go with the tradition of naming the first son after his father by giving him his father's last name, so he'd be Mitchell Matthews. Makes a lot more sense than having to call him Henry Jr or (worse!) Junior!

This might be a bit odd, but Paige could name one of her daughters Samantha since her biological dad is named Sam. It isn't Paige's way to think like that, but it would work.

The trick is to come up with a name that sounds alike since the girls are twins

How's this? Depending upon what her adopted father's name is, she names one of them Sam after her blood father and one of them the feminine name of her REAL father? They may not sound alike, but do you REALLY think Paige would do the "they're twins so their names must sound alike" bit? Actually I could see her naming them after her sisters--Piper and Phoebe--and wouldn't their aunts just love that??

I don't think I could see her doing that, even if Piper and Phoebe were proposed as middle names. It lacks a Paige-ish touch, IMO.

But I agree that twins don't always have to have names that start with the same letter. Sometimes people name their kids after objects that are opposites, sometimes they make themes (i.e. Song and Lyric), sometimes they spell them backwards (i.e. Noel and Leon), sometimes they're given namesake names, and sometimes there is just no rhyme or reason other than the parents like their chosen names.

With Paige, I could definitely see her choosing names that don't have the same letter. Even just choosing names that she (and Henry) like that have no rhyme or reason.

I also think Es has an interesting idea about naming the twins after her fathers. I find it entirely possible she could've decided to name one twin Samantha and one twin after her adoptive father. (Though I still find it more likely that one of the twins was named after her adoptive mother if she was going to do name them after family.)

If you were looking at it from a CRR point of view, Paige would name her twins: Madeline and Hollie. After her adoptive parents, Madeline and Holden; middle name possibilities: Samantha and Patrina. After her biological parents, that is if Phoebe chooses to name one of her children, Patricia - if not Paige would likely choose that instead of Patrina.

i was so annoyed with not knowing the children names i dont see why they didnt tell us does anyone else feel the same?

i mean we already know chris, wyatt and henry junior and were all guessing that piper daughters name was either melinda or prue.

but yes this annoyed me that the writers did not tell us what there names were

I'm quite happy not knowing, leaves our imaginations to run wild. In Kerns mind he was probably thinking if there ever was a spin-off, a new producer wouldn't like all their creative control taking away from them. Naming and powering the next generation wouldn't give them a lot of power over the series, they'd be stuck with nine characters that are not there own but with the way it's been done they have five or six character not named nor powered.

Why do we know the name of Paige's son but don't know the name of Phoebe's kids?
I say tell us the names of all the kids or none of them.

I agree, then again, I don't like the three kids each concept, so I don't really care because when I write (or will write), the kids won't be set like that and I like to choose names.

Actually, I think the question should be: Why do we know the names of most of the males in the next two generations but none of the females?

Kern made a point to have Paige state her son's name and have Leo state his grandson's name, but cut Piper's daughter's name from the script, refused to name Paige's twins or Phoebe's daughters, and also didn't allow Piper's granddaughter's name to be spoken on screen.
