So I know it is very easy to find the bad in this show but talking about it/reading about it every day is a bit despressing sometimes so as much as talk about the shows problems, we might as well talk about the shows streangths.

For me I was drawn to the show because of the location. I had just departed the Bay Area...yet again, and missed it. In fact, I didn't know it was a weekly show, I thought it was a made for TV movie staring Shannen....as she was the only one I recognized. I might add that I continued to watch that episode because she was in it. When I realized that it was a weekly thing I knew I had to come back. The episode in question was the one with Charlene (sp), and I was totally taken in by the relationship the sisters had....not the magic. That I must admit that was secondary as I didn't understand just where that was going being the new kid on the block, and I didn't care. It was how the girls dealt with each other that grabbed my attention and got me tuning in. It didn't matter to me that they made mistakes, were sometimes selfish and at times testy with each other. I loved that, it made it real. The magic to me was just the icing on a really well baked cake. Scrape off the fluff and the flavorer is still there. So I guess for me the main positive aspic of the show is what was killed off as time went by....sisters, first and for-most.

All of my positives were in the first three seasons. I *loved* the relationship between the three sisters and I especially *loved* the fact that Prue was truly an Oldest Child, Piper was truly a Middle Child and Phoebe was the Baby. I loved the tension between the strict, bossy Oldest and the free-spirit Baby and the Middle Child acting as the mediator.
In the first three seasons, I *loved* Leo, my angel, and Cole, our devil. Leo's love story with Piper (including the triangle between them and Dan) is still my favorite storyline. And until he was possesed by the Source, I *loved* the love story between Phoebs and Cole. I also *loved* the relationship between Andy and Prue. And poor Darryl and his "I'm a cop" and "Don't say the D-word." He and Andy kept us grounded in reality and I loved that.
I also loved getting to know Grams and Patty and Melinda Warren, too. I guess I just loved getting to know the characters.
I loved so many of the bad guys in the first three seasons just because they *were* bad and creepy. I also loved so many of the innocents in the first three seasons.
The magic was fun, but it was just an extra that made the show different and gave it that special something.
Yes, in the first three seasons there were a lot of positives, especially the relationships.

Charmed...period.
The sarcasm, the magic, the crying, female power, the humor, the actors, the atmosphere, everything.
I think we all love to sit down and escape into the world of Charmed for an hour (or more).
My number one positive would have to be magic/normal aspect. I don't think any other show/movie really has this aspect down to a tee like Charmed does.

Although it had a lot of faults, I still find Seasons 1-3 very enjoyable to watch.

This is for Forbes....in the beginning I found the show to be very solid and grounded in family. That is the back bone of a strong nation. When family units fall to the way side the country looses is strength. Trust becomes non-existent, selfishness rears its ugly head and war is eminent.
In its inception the girls were growing, and I do not mean their powers, as I look at them in the secondary. They were advancing as woman and were role models for many young girls viewing the show.
Prue the strong one kept it together. She watches the money and fixed what she could rather then let her fingers do the walking through the yellow pages. She remained at a job that she was brilliant at, yet was not totally happy with. That takes strength, determination and sacrifice. In the end she also stood up for herself and took the plunge, she finally went after her dream and became a photographer. But note that she didn't do this until she helped Piper get a toe hold in what she truly wanted. To be at least self-employed....even if it wasn't exactly her goal.
Piper in the beginning was like Prue...very responsible. She had some job that had nothing to do with cooking or running her own business. What she worked in a bank? That is not achieving, it is just existing and paying the bills. But she did it! Then she works as a chef were she is mistreated, taken for granted and over worked. But she did it! Now some say she copped out. She wanted to own a restaurant but settled for a disco. Well you gotta start somewhere. And with the love and help of her sisters she opened a door to a path to her dreams. She learned to run a business while dealing with a family and messy magic to boot. Perhaps we should ponder all of this. How easy it that? Two kids, an absentee husband, a big home to run, a beloved old sister now gone, a new sister she never knew to have to deal with and train in a world that most of us would never understand. Sounds like a lot of work and responsibility to me...excuse me while I pour myself another scotch. Phoebe the flake screwed up plenty, but she still made a major change in her life when she decided to return to school. Now if you go there directly out of high-school it is just an extension of you former life....but having spent time away from the academic world and knowing that you must really put the good effort in to this as you have two sisters that are going to have to support you in your endeavor...as you are not really bring money in to the home...well you had better make the grade this time, has to be a ton of pressure. Note: I loved Cole's character, but Phoebe might have been better off if she had never met him. Think of the possibilities. Phoebe gets masters degree and becomes a child shrink.
Paige is a different Charmed One. Her downfall was connecting at all. Her strength was in who she was before she arrived at the manor. She lost her parents and for the most part seemed to be alone. It's nice that she found a family but what might she have done if she had not? She, like Phoebe was a wild child, but she fought. She went to college with no support. She worked hard and was advancing in the field of social work. Think of what she could have accomplished if she (had been able) to continue.
In short, all of the girls were strong, smart, capable and determined young woman who would have gone many more miles if they had not been encumbered with the impossible task of magic management....YES!!!

There's a thread for what Kern did right, but I'd love to know what our new members think are *also* the Positives of Charmed.

The leads had a strong chemistry together, whether it was with Shannen Doherty or Rose McGowan. The show also had Ted King and Julian McMahon. There are a handful of episodes that are big favorites of mine. Chris Halliwell was a very interesting character to me.
I'm sure that I could think of other positive elements of "CHARMED".

All Breaks Loose is still one of the best things ever made! Yeah, it is. It's a shame that Shannen didn't use this episode as a means to acquire more work as a television director.

Let's see. A positive of Charmed. I think the first three seasons did a great job with the sister aspect of the show. ¢¾

Season 1-3 did do great with showing the sister relationship between the girls. At the same time, I think season 4 showed the loss of one sister and the struggle to accept someone new - especially when it came to Piper.

When I first watched Charmed I knew I liked the show enough to keep on watching until I couldn't find it on TV any more. When I got the dvd's I wouldn't miss Charmed for the world. I realizing what an amazing masterpiece this show is. The beautiful quotes that comes from the show the moving acting that makes your spirit fly. The way you feel after you watch the show alive and at peace. As I watch this show I love this show more and more. I have said on this board quite a few moments that I love the closeness of this family. I don't have that with my family at all. The simple way they hug each other is beautiful. To me this show is the most beautiful TV show ever created ever created and that is why I get really upset if anyone says anything crap about Charmed. Words don't even come close how great and amazing this show is. The touching way the actors deliver their lines. One minute you can be laughing your guts up and the next minute you can be weeping crying your eyes out. Charmed is like Melbourne Australia all seasons in one day (it is a show that has all feelings in one show)! It makes you feel overwhelmed cause it so brilliant! Part of a quote I use from Charmed is "It (Charmed) comes from Angels". this quote was used when Paige went to see the nun where she was dumbed at the church her mum and Sam gave her up. I just changed the first part. Cause this quote is true this show does come from angels it does for me anyhow. I can see in my minds eye a pure white box with a beautiful red ribbon given to me by some sort of white human being, a being of good inside the box are the Charmed discs inside it. This is a beautiful magical gift I have been given to take with me on this journey called life. I get a lot of these visions they pop into my head similar to how Phoebe gets them it is strange. Examples:
Leo and Piper's wedding vows I thought they were beautiful and showed the love they had for each other they were so meant to be together
When Prue and Phoebe gave Piper the check for her club and they all hugged each other
When the whole family is hugging at season 8 I loved that bit. After the big battle
Piper having her first baby and the episode after that.
Piper comforting Leo after Leo accidently killed an elder.
Magic Hour Piper says to her sisters "Neither where hearts meant to be broken" Holly says that so well yet so sad when she thinks she will never be with the one man she loves Leo now that is writing! That is Charmed beautiful and sensitive.
Leanne Rimes Can't fight the moon quotes:
"There's a magical feeling so right"
"It's (Charmed) going to get to your heart"
"It weaves it's spell upon your heart"

It portrays women as strong and able to defend themselves..they aren't brainless and stupid. They didn't rely on anyone else apart from themselves to vanquish demons. So I definitely think it was (and still is) a show that many people looked up to..with the sisterhood and protecting people. I liked that they had a new story each week..there wasn't 5000 other story arcs in one episode. You could watch it and not get a headache thinking about what had happened. Sometimes, I wish other shows were more like that!

The relationship within the family. It grows and parts and there's always something anew to learn. Time travel is an useful thing and of course, I like Chris Perry Halliwell. He brought some interesting views in and tried to make the Charmed Ones the Charmed Ones again.

Hmmm... I could say something about that...and how the True Big Bad of Charmed (whose name should've been Brad, not Chris) changed his family, but since this is about the Positives of Charmed, I won't....

The show was very good in portraying family dynamics, and even with deaths in the family. Prue's funeral, and the aftermath (Hell Hath No Fury) was realistic too.

I agree, the episodes dealing with the aftermath of Prue's death were my favourites!

I agree, the episodes dealing with the aftermath of Prue's death were my favourites! I agree as well! I loved the raw emotion the Sisters showed after losing Prue, Especially Piper! Phoebe on the other hand I didn't think she was as emotional but maybe that's just because she and Prue were never that close, especially in season 3.

I'm going to bump this forward. There's more than enough Negative about Charmed in this site - let's talk about the Positive.
