So here at the Cafe, we spend quite a lot of time talking about what the show did wrong, what they could of done better and why the show wasn't as successful as show such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural.
But this thread is intended to spread the Charmed love. Tell us why you think Charmed was so successful?
And if you don't believe Charmed was successful then why are we still talking about it every day? There aren't many shows that have such a dedicated following as Charmed does.

What made the show so successful? I think it was the original concept. The show's premise was THREE SISTERS WHO HAPPEN TO BE WITCHES. Yes, we all can agree that the concept basically was non-exist in the end, but still, that's how it started and I think that's what drew in most people. There's a recent discussion about whether the show would be as successful with male leads. I think what made the show so great was that it was FEMALES. It was a part two of Spelling's Angels, in a way. "We may not be murderers, but we're no Angels." - Prue Halliwell, 1x22. I think Spelling knew that a female lead show would draw the right attention. Just like with Buffy, it was to let us women take control and save the world. The men were the love interests and took a back seat to the action (again, using the premise of the show). For me, the family aspect won me over in S1-3 and S6 (since Chris was family). Also, personally, I got into the show right after my parents got divorced. So for me, this show as an escape from reality. Sure, they had jobs and romance and that real life problems, but they were witches and they had AWESOME powers. And since I started the show when I was around 9, it was the coolest thing in the world for me. I feel like that escape from reality was a big draw into the show, too.

I agree about the original premise was the reason why it drew in so many viewers.
Charmed not being as successful as Buffy or Supernatural? To be honest I don't think it was more or less successful then either of these two shows. I stopped watching Supernatural around season 5 because I felt the show started to go in a new direction and it failed to keep my attention. I will eventually pick up from where I left off but right now I don't have the time or the desire. Buffy was another show that started taking on a new direction after season 5 - I still watched but I wasn't as in love with it as I was in the beginning. I own all the DVDs now but I can't watch it all the way through I tend to skip episodes and jump around the seasons. Charmed was no different. Season 4 was okay but season 5, I almost stopped watching. I had to watch because i'm part of a Charmed board and this messageboard is what pulled me through until my renewed love of Charmed in season 6.
Charmed had it's faults but i'm a loyal fan all because I was a big fan of 3 sisters who happen to be witches.
