In a proper reboot, the premise of the series would be the same, three sisters who happen to witches but not just any witches, they're the Charmed Ones, the most powerful witches to have ever lived. The premise of the opening episode is also likely to be the same: Three sisters are reunited for the first time since the death of their grandmother, coming together in the home they grew up in. A home that holds many mysterious secrets but one secret in particular that will change the course of their whole lives. You could change the names and even maybe the powers if you'd like but the setup is likely to be similar. I still think Patty would be dead, Grams would have raised them and Victor is also likely to not be around (as I think the way they dealt with him prior to S3 was awful, he popped up once and then was ignored for another two years.). It would be the same show, just very different. I'll agree with the first paragraph but not the rest. The rest would make it *too* much like Charmed. You wouldn't want that much similarity. The opening episode would have to be quite a bit different than the original or otherwise everyone would be comparing it unfavorably with the original and be upset each time it's different than the original, the death of any remake. Only if it's it's own show would it be successful. If everyone hated the first season, then maybe this would work. But because most fans loved the first season, it wouldn't.

A reboot usually does directly copy the first episode or at least the main premise of the first episode. Take Life on Mars and Shameless as examples, both copied their British counterparts almost word for word. That is what is a reboot usually does.
You still end up with a completely different result, in Life on Mars, Sam was actually an astronaut from the future while in the original series, he simply woke up from a coma only to realize he had nothing left in his real life to live for.
After the first few episodes, the reboot would take a completely different direction. For example, the first big twist in a Charmed reboot could be that Andy is killed off very early in the season (and in this series, he and Prue are long term lovers, even perhaps newlyweds...maybe this is why Phoebe returned from New York!?)
A different end to the series could be the sisters giving up their powers or sacrificing themselves to vanquish THE big bad or the sisters simply vanquishing THE big bad! As long as the end result is different, that is a successful reboot.

*nods* You're right. That's the difference between a remake and a reboot.
I would prefer a remake, you'd obviously prefer a reboot. If it started with a witch being killed and her cat nearby, that would be fine with me. But if we then heard Piper say, "Prue?' and it continued word-for-word, I'd turn the set off and not watch again no matter who starred. I wouldn't want to see Season One or Season Two redone. The rest, yes, but not those two. I know others would, and that's fine - maybe it would be as much of a success as the reboots you're talking about (and I personally have never seen a reboot that similar to the original). I wouldn't.

"Full sisters"? Why does it matter if the sisters have the same set of parents or not? They had inherited their roles as the Charmed Ones from Patty, not their fathers.
I would like to see Season Two redone. Frankly, it's my least favorite season of the early years. Aside from a few episodes, I didn't find it that memorable. And it seemed as if the series as a whole was stuck in an artistic rut.
And although Season Three is my favorite of the series, without Phoebe in the reboot, it would probably have to be changed.

Don't you think it's time to get the ball rolling on "Charmed The Next Generation" I'm ready, anyone else. We can start a campaign on facebook and send it to the producers to get it started...What do you think?

I think that the original ruined the chance of the next generation by having Wes and Drew on as adult Wyatt and Chris. IMO, it's too soon to do a next generation without Wes and Drew.
The other problem is explaining where the Charmed Ones are at this point. Unless they can get guest spots from the original series, this is going to be a hole.
I agree that the names woulf have to be changed for a reboot or remake. I'm more for a remake than a reboot, so I chose Prue, Piper and Paige as my three. This is not to say that Phoebe is not around, but that she is the Black Sheep. She is already involved with a half demon like Cole and deep into the occult. Phoebe through her occult involvement has already developed her power of premonitions but is using them for personal gain. She has used her power for personal gain so much that it precludes her from forming the Charmed Ones with her sisters.
Paige would start out the show knowing about her ability to panic orb and meeting by accident a whitelighter who sees her panic orb. The opening arc should be about the Charmed Ones coming to together with Phoebe getting in the way.
Phoebe would be a profesional psychic with her Cole type half demon as her manager and protector. He would have lead Phoebe down the personal gain way on purpose thinking that he stopped the Charmed Ones from starting only to be thwarted by Paige showing up....

I don't think that a reboot of Charmed has to have a reminder of the original series but it still can lead to something anew. May it be dark or light. There should at least be something what remembers of the Manor or anyone else from the Halliwells. I'd also like a dark Charmed where the witches act like the cliché says: kinda but from time to time.

The only reboots I’m familiar with are of movies, most notably the Batman and Hulk. While Hulk was better than the previous, there wasn’t anything unique about it. It gave me a been-there-already-seen-it feeling. Batman….well…..it set a very high benchmark for comic book movies which every movie is still scrambling to meet. It would be a dream within my wildest dreams for Christopher Nolan to even think about Charmed. But since he’s producing Superman…..uh nope. Still can’t see him and Charmed happening. Unless someone performed inception on him But point is in the Charmed reboot, I want something familiar, but very different and new at the same time. Familiar would be the same names, basic powers, same age order with Prue oldest to Paige youngest. New and different, I guess Paige would be that example, but, magic school and then fairytale creatures…..that’s not the new and different I want. Also I don’t want to find myself comparing the new actresses with the old actresses or even thinking about them. But at the same time, I want to be able to recognize and say yes that’s Prue, Piper and Phoebe or Paige when I watch the new cast. Of course that won’t be a problem in 20 to 30 years time, but right now if they go for a reboot, as crazy as it sounds, I would really prefer the sisters to be younger than the ages they started out as COs. That way whoever the new actresses are won’t feel pressured trying to fill the shoes, and we won’t be comparing much. Plus, all we’ve really seen are adult versions acting like their younger selves and some cameos. And all we’ve heard are snippets of conversation about Piper being really shy and insecure and high school being a nightmare for her while Prue, Paige, and Phoebe were all rebellious and they were nightmares for others. So instead of the sisters starting out as Charmed Ones in their adults, why not in their teens? Or perhaps something like Piper in college, Phoebe in high school and Prue about to finish and start working. Since Charmed already messed with time-travel and all, another drastic thing that could be done is what the new Star Trek movie did: the characters being aware that something changed and that things weren’t supposed to happen this way, like they were happening now. In Charmed terms, the younger sisters of the new show finding out they weren't supposed to receive their powers so early and some other 'future' events of the previous show. That way, you’ve got guest appearances from their 'older' versions also. But better to only maintain link with good stuff and seasons of the show. I guess what I want is the new show to share the characteristics of both a prequel and a reboot.

All that teenaged angst?? No, thank you. I'm sure anyone who loved the CW would probably love it, but it's not for this almost-60-year-old. It's why I stopped watching 90210 once Brenda left - just too much angst. Besides, I've learned to hate prequels. If they're true prequels, it means there's absolutely no drama. You KNOW all four girls (and anyone else we know from the original series) are going to live, so if they run into danger, it's not true danger. It's one of many reasons why I didn't like the Parts I-III of Star Wars. This would work only if it lead into a totally different Charmed - the remake, not the reboot. Say like if it's Piper or Phoebe who dies before the sisters get their powers back... Or better, Paige. OF course, if as you said, you use the new Star Trek's version of time travel, that would be the best way to set up a remake/reboot becaue then you could make things different but similar. I like the idea of a *true* Big Bad coming back from the future to get even with the Charmed Ones and ending up killing Sam before he has his affair with Patty, so the sisters grow up with both of their parents, not Grams, and know that they are witches. Showing the changes that just something like that could make could make an interesting remake, just like that movie where the differences in the characters made sense (well, except that Jim should've been Sam, not Jim..) and were part of the fun. Hmmm... Can the Big Bad from the future be named Chris???

Well if Prue is about to start her career and Piper is in college, we’ll have to deal with only one-third teen angst and not all. So it won’t be that bad I always loathed the word prequel. Here you are anxiously waiting for a sequel to you favorite movie and the news of a prequel pop up. But after watching Matthew Vaughn’s X-men First Class, the supposed prequel for the X-men movies, and how he ingenious made it into a reboot too, I’m beginning to like the word. And the thing about magic, or mutant powers is by using time traveling you can easily turn the prequel into….what Star Trek did. That way the viewers would have no idea what’ll happen next now that what we thought was supposed to happen might not. Chris as the Big Bad? Depends if he can exist If Prue’s death can cause such major changes like Piper having sons, then using the same weird logic, killing Sam might…err…reverse those changes?

What about this for a re-make?
Instead of beginning with the the aftermath of the death of Grams, maybe Patty or Penny is still alive and it begins with the death of one of the sisters? (For example, Paige - which would affect them a lot, seen as though she was the youngest.) And now that the four sisters have become three, their destiny has been awakened as the Power of Three.
But then for the first season you could have the whole rejection of their magic because they feel like Paige died for a reason, and that it is their fault as it was their destiny for her to die.
Putting different spins on it could make it work I think.

I don't know if I like the fact they know about their powers. Part of what I loved about Season's One and Two was that all three sisters were adjusting to life as witches, learning to control their powers and finding the balence between normality and the supernatural stuff. Taking that away, would mean the show would lose alot of it's...magic!

There are certain aspects of a show that must be kept no matter what. The sisters finding out they are witches when they are adults is a must. Just like they must be 3 sisters, not 3 friends, cousins, etc...

Why would finding out that they're witches when they're adults or that they be three sisters be a must? That would only be true if you want a reboot. If you want a remake, anything goes and that's what would make it fun. There's a thread going on at The Charmed Sons that has lots of fun with what ifs? What if Grams had more than one kid?Among other things, our own StoryGirl83 wrote: I remember Grams saying that she always knew she would have the Charmed Ones. I wonder if that's the real reason she kept remarrying . . . she was trying to have two more daughters. To which I replied: Hehehehe! And had that happened, Patty would've had two half-sisters, the way Piper and Phoebe had one.
I wonder how different that set of Charmed Ones would've been with the oldest having the power to freeze time rather than move things with her mind, and perhaps growing up with the father of the two younger Charmed Ones. Think Grams would've given those two names that started with P? And would Grams' Aunt Phoebe, the one Patty named Phoebe for, still be around?
Finally, would Leo or Sam have been the one assigned to *this* set of Charmed Ones? Would Victor still be part of this scenario and would he have battled Leo or Sam for Patty?
Would Nicholas still have forced Grams to bind her daughters' powers and does this mean that the Charmed Ones wouldn't have become Charmed until after Grams was dead - after these girls were already married with children of their own - or would Grams have died sooner?
Then again, what if Grams had three daughters with one of her other husbands? Would Patty still have been Charmed? Might she have still had Sam as a whitelighter while Leo was still assigned to the Charmed Ones?
How different would it have been with the sisters growing up in the 50's/60's and becoming Charmed in the 70's?
And here's the funniest one of all. What if Grams had had a *son* Would he have powers? Would he have become one of the Po3, or would the prophecy have indeed waited for three *sisters*?
Fascinating sets of possiblities! And any of these possibilites could make a great remake, all much better than a boring reboot when we already know what's going to happen.

A reboot is starting everything over from the beginning with a few changes here and there. A remake is remaking a previous version of something with some changes here and there. Not that much of a difference.

I think that's the problem - different people have different definitions for those words. I just want something different because nothing would be as good as the original unless it was.

Then you would want a different show all together, something not named Charmed. Which might as well be The Secret Circle. Its like Charlies Angels...you need Charlie, you need a Bosley, and you need 3 Angels. Not 2, not 4, 3. Anything else besides that is up to you. Which we have seen in the 2 movies and now tv show.
But unless they came out with a show set in Charmeds continuity and future ala 90210 and Melrose Place 2.0 then there really isnt a need to be Charmed.

You might be right, but I don't think that's necessarily so. It would still be Charmed even if it was three male cousins living in their ancestral home in England who discover that they are witches descended from Charlotte Warren's British father, a man whose last name is Halliwell.
Or do the same thing but have it be three sisters and let us find out that *they're* the true Charmed Ones - their Charmed distantly-related cousins only thought they were.
It would just be an alternate Charmed, which is what I would like.
But if you wanted to stick with the canon and if they started it off with All Hell Breaks Loose (and all three actresses blondes, just like Melinda Warren), but all three sisters survive and it continues from there, then, yes, I could see that since it would be totally different from the original, since you'd still have Prue as the eldest and the leader, Piper as the heart of the family who could concentrate on her own and Phoebe as the baby. And if we discover that they each only have their single original power and there is no such thing as dead men being able to sire children - that the Morality Bites future was indeed just one made up by the Elders - it would definitely be different, and in my eyes, better.
But if it started right off at the beginning and was exactly the same? No, thanks.

While my favorite characters and actresses for the sisters were the younger three, I think they would have to keep the baby sister and how she came to be just as it was in the series to begin with - for the same reason they wrote it in the first place. They cant seal up that little plot device, in case one or more of the actresses decides to leave the show. There could be many more such baby sisters if need be, and secret for all the same reason.
I also think that apart from that little problem of actresses leaving the show, they could re-boot charmed almost anywhere they wanted in the original story line, because of all the time travel and alternate reality stories.
Also, why would it have to only be the P3 sisters? I always wished they'd do a spin off starting with Melinda Warrens daughter and the generational stories leading to the P3 sisters. Maybe one generations story per season. I also wished they'd done an alternate where Cole is truly redeemed and did a whole lot more on his back story. (And where Paige gets off her high-horse and acknowledges that the only difference between her past evil life and his was that he still remembers all his stages and has to deal with his baggage consciously.)
