Hi! Long-time lurker here. I finally decided to join this forum. I have a couple of thoughts on S03E22:
1. Prue physically pushing the doctor out of the way when she usually saves innocents by telekinetically pushing them out of harm's way, which also would've allowed her to push away Shax.
2. Piper doing nothing but standing in front of Shax when she could have frozen him or blew him up. A WTF moment for me.
3. The news crew blatantly ignoring one of the news employees who said that she thought Piper and Prue blowing Shax up could have been a hoax.
4. Leo going to the Underworld to help Phoebe, even though either Piper or Prue said that Phoebe could take care of herself.
5. Alice just casually walking right into the Halliwell home without being stopped. There was definetely enough people outside to stop her fron getting in.
6. Alice shooting Piper, when it was Prue who threw her out of the house, not Piper.
7. Alice being able to shoot Piper with a shotgun while standing on top of a van. Police were swarming the area, and should have noticed her getting on top of the van.
But most importantly Prue and Piper vanquishing a demon in the middle of the street, especially when they don't even vanquish him--that's just pure stupidity which doesn't fit either character.
My guess is that if all three sisters had survived as was originally supposed to happen, this wouldn't even make most fans' top 25 episodes much less top ten.

Welcome to the site!
This episode definitely has a lot of talking points:
1 and 2: They definitely should have used their powers here. Makes no sense why they didn't.
3: There's this, and the whole idea that the world became convinced of magic after one video. What they did wasn't nearly enough proof of anything, and I'm really surprised more people weren't skeptical.
4: It's been while since I've seen the episode, so I don't remember the situation around this.
5: I could buy that Alice was able to sneak in the house, but it does seem unlikely.
6: I don't think Alice cared who she shot. She had just met them, and could have easily mistaken one for the other, even if she intended to shoot Prue.
7: Yeah, Alice getting on top of the van with a shotgun was ridiculous. Where did she even get a gun anyway? How did she get through that crowd with it? And someone definitely would have seen her.
I was also extremely surprised that Prue and Piper vanquished Shax in the street. What bothered me was that after his first attack at the house, Prue and Piper go walking around the neighborhood for him. Surely when demons magically leave the manor, they don't just go strolling down the street or to a tourist attraction or something. I'd assume they'd either be in the manor or underworld, not in Chinatown or something.
So I don't know why they expected to find him, or why he hung around and they actually did find him. And I don't know why they weren't more worried about exposure. This wasn't a vanquish in the middle of the woods somewhere, or at least at night. It was just stupid on their part.
And you're right: had all three survived, I think this episode would be praised for how well Shannen and Holly acted, but absolutely ridiculed in terms of plot.

Written by... BRAD KERN. Sounds about right. Except that some of his written episodes are actually good. I can't really argue with these points. This entire episode was a hot mess of things that didn't happen before or after. Not sure who was thinking with all the ?? that happened.

This whole episode had so many plot holes and so much didn't make sense. I admire Shannen for directing it as she did a good job with it and we got good acting, but it was a crappy script by Kern.
That might be why people love it, both because of the acting, and because it was the last episode for Prue. Had it not been her last, people wouldn't love it as much as they do.

Yeah, being Prue's last is why it's always talked about.
The directing was great. Shannen and Holly were amazing. The writing and story just don't match Charmed.

Yes, this was a mistake. This was a mistake that Prue had acknowledged latter in the episode. She had allowed her ego and determination to kill Shax to get the best of her. Piper had earlier expressed reluctance to leave the house and hunt for Shax, but allowed Prue to change her mind.
This was a dumb moment. Alice could have shot at the manor from another position.
Alice had meant to kill one or all of the sisters. It didn't matter that Prue was the one who had threw her out of the house. She didn't care.
Why is this implausible? People have been known to occasionally freeze when faced with possible danger. The Charmed Ones were NOT perfect demon hunters. Or simply perfect.
I don't know why this particular episode is being bashed for its imperfections, when the series is filled with episodes that are ten or twenty times worse.

At least they did set up Prue's Pride and that's definitely a "valid" excuse for some of the things.

For me, at the time when I watched it I thought it was a great episode but its actually not.
Its out of Character for Charmed and not normally how a season finishes.
So many inconsistencies. You are right about the lack of TK or Freezing - esp because they have been mastering their powers in Season 3. Prue didn't even consult with the BOS in how to help Piper like summoning something that might be able to help.
Tempus was killed - I'm sure he was!
The acting performances are among the best in the series which is a positive. Could Prue not have Astral Projected to a Doctor and told him to come? Why wasn't there an emergency team standing by?

Why didn't some of their innocents try to counteract the bad press? It would've been a great way to show some old familiar faces
