So, we can assume powers are genetic, hence why Melinda, Patty, Penny, the sisters, Past-Piper, etc, had similar abilities, right?
But in Pardon My Past, Phoebe wonders why she didn't get to keep the fire power, and instead of saying genetics, Leo says its because she must've mistreated the power.
So.. If a soul can carry the same ability, assuming it's not abused, does that mean that genetics has nothing to do with powers?

Throwing this hypothetical example into the mix... If Phoebe didn't abuse her premonitions, we can assume that she'd carry the power with her to her next life, if she's a witch. However, if premonitions don't run in the family, she could still bring that same power, because her soul had it in the last life, right?

I think when they had Penny’s ghost using telekinesis, they abandoned any pretense of bringing science into the mix. Not that there was ever any real consistency to begin with, mind you. Dr. Williamson was able to give a trio of monkeys and (accidentally) himself the powers of the Charmed Ones via blood injections? Even setting aside that I don’t think that’s how genetics works, why did no demon or warlock ever try something like that? They’ve made the Charmed Ones bleed enough times, it should have been possible. Also, if it’s just a genetics thing, why does going back in time mean that they don’t have their powers? Also also, in That 70s Episode, only one set of them could have their powers at a time, so what happened to that rule?
Unrelated to any of that, I have to wonder: if Piper’s exploding power really was a natural development of her freezing power, does that mean that Patty could do the same thing? After all, she had the (never bound) power a lot longer than Piper at that point in the show.
