This is a one-shot. It’s set a few days after Chris-Crossed. I always wondered how the sisters learnt of Chris´ powers so I decided to write a little fic about it. Enjoy!
Piper walked into the attic to find her neurotic whitelighter standing behind the Book of Shadows flipping through its pages.
Even though he had lied to her, she felt sorry for him. He had just lost his fiancé and instead of grieving, he was keeping all his feelings cooped up inside. He was drowning himself in his work.
Ever since he had come back from his little trip to the future, he had been even more obsessed with protecting Wyatt and finding the demon that would hurt him. Piper was worried for him. He looked exhausted, as if he hadn’t slept in days.
“Hey, Chris,” she said softly to announce her presence in the attic.
He looked up from the book.
“Hey, Piper,” he said, trying to keep his voice even, before turning back to the book.
“You should take some time off, Chris. You look exhausted,” she said as she walked towards him, concerned.
“I’m fine,” he said without looking up.
“I know it hurts, Chris,” she said, honesty filled her voice. She laid her hand on the book and Chris´ eyes looked up to meet hers. His eyes were hard and emotionless, “It’s okay to be mad at her.”
Chris looked away, trying to hold back tears. He took a moment to get a hold on his emotions.
No, he thought, I’m going to change it. I’m going to change it all.
He turned back to her, his emotionless mask back in place, “Where are Paige and Phoebe?”
Piper sighed. Chris was a hard egg to crack. She decided to let the subject drop for the time being.
“They’re in their rooms packing,” She said.
“Packing?” Chris asked, grateful that Piper hadn’t continued pursuing the topic. If she had, Chris wasn’t sure that he would have been able to stop himself from breaking down in her arms, “What for?”
“For moving,” Piper said plainly.
“For what?!” Chris exclaimed, “Moving where?”
Piper realized that nobody had told Chris about Paige and Phoebe moving out, “Well,” she explained, “Phoebe is moving in with Jason in Hong Kong and Paige is moving in with Richard.”
Chris stared at her blankly.
“And you’re okay with that?” he asked her questioningly.
“Yeah,” Piper answered.
“What about your wiccan duties?” Chris asked starting to get slightly mad, he hadn’t been able to control his temper very well since Bianca …., “They can’t move out! With you three not under one roof, you’ll be sitting ducks for the demons!”
“Calm down, Chris,” Piper said, “What do you expect? Us to still be living in the same house when we’re fifty? They deserve to try and find love, lead normal lives and start families of their own.”
Chris sighed. He knew his mother well enough. He wouldn’t be able to change her mind. He then thought back to something she had told him when he was younger. She had mentioned her sisters moving out for a while, but they had moved back in shortly afterwards.
“Fine,” Chris said satisfied. They’d just have to learn from their mistakes.
Piper raised an eyebrow at him. She found it strange for him to give in so easily, but she decided to ignore it for the time being.
“Piper!” They could hear Phoebe calling from down stairs, “I’m gonna put my boxes in the car and bring them to the airport! Could you help me?”
“Sure!” Piper yelled back, “Just a sec!”
She then turned to Chris, “Can you help?” she asked him. If he wasn’t going to rest, she could at least get his mind off of demons for a couple of minutes before he got himself killed.
He shrugged, “Yeah, sure.”
He followed her out of the attic and into Phoebe’s room. It was a mess. Open boxes littered the floor.
“Phoebe,” Piper said sternly while trying to get near Phoebe without stepping on objects littered across the room, “This place is a mess. You have to at least tape your boxes closed.”
“Nah,” Phoebe said, waving it off, “I’m putting my stuff on Jason’s plane. It’s easier, you know? That way we don’t have to deal with moving companies and stuff like that, we’re just doing it ourselves.”
“Can’t you just get Paige to orb your stuff there?” Piper asked her.
“And how am I supposed to explain my boxes just getting there by themselves to Jason?” Phoebe said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“Fine,” Piper said giving in, “We’ll do it the hard way. At least we can orb Paige’s stuff.”
She looked around at the number of boxes in the room, “You can borrow the SUV, it’s bigger.”
“Thanks, sis,” Phoebe said happily as she gave her sister a big hug. She was overly happy about moving in with Jason.
That was when she noticed Chris standing in the doorway.
“Hey, Chris,” she said with an encouraging smile.
She could feel the pain he was in. Not because of her empathy power. No, Chris was always a brick wall to her, but she knew the pain of the loss of the one you love. She had experienced it herself with Cole.
He nodded at her in response. He bent down and picked up two boxes, “So, these go in the SUV, right?” he asked. He couldn’t stand the sad, pitying looks on their faces as they looked at him.
Phoebe nodded and Chris left the room.
Chris let out a sigh as he left the room and started descending the stairs.
If only they knew the truth, Chris thought, If only they knew what their beloved son will one day become…
Chris wasn’t paying much attention to the boxes he was carrying and as he walked down the last step, a book fell out of one of the open boxes and landed on the bottom step.
Chris tried to shift the boxes so he could bend down backwards and pick it up, but it seemed this was impossible to do unless he dropped the boxes.
He squinted his eyes and the book flew back into its box.
Chris had always been able to use his telekinesis best through his hands, but he could also channel the power through his eyes when he only needed to move smaller objects.
As he moved to walk to the front door, he saw a very shocked Paige, staring at him.
“What?” Chris asked her. He didn’t have a clue what she was staring at.
Then a thought struck Chris, What if she’s figured me out? What if she knows who I am?
Chris was slightly panicking now, and Paige still wasn’t answering.
“What?” he asked, his voice starting to shake.
Paige continued to stare at him and she backed away slightly, “How…how did you do that?” she said nervously, gesturing with her hand to imitate the book flying into the box.
Chris let out a sigh of relief. She hadn’t figured him out. He still didn’t get why Paige was so freaked out though.
“Telekinesis,” he said simply, “You know I’m part-witch, right?” he said, stating the obvious.
“Well…yeah,” Paige said, still on guard, “But you never said you had any active powers”
Chris didn’t have time to react, because at that moment their conversation was interrupted by Piper and Phoebe coming down the stairs. They were engrossed in their own conversation so they only realized that Paige was standing rather far away from Chris when they reached the ground floor. Paige was clearly shocked and it seemed that she also seemed threatened by something.
“What’s up?” Phoebe asked, looking between the two curiously.
“Chris has active powers,” Paige said simply.
“What?!” Piper exclaimed as she turned on Chris, “You lied to us? Again?”
“Hold on a second,” Chris said getting angry at the unfairness of the situation. He put the boxes that were starting to get heavy, down on the floor and then he turned to face Piper, “I didn’t lie! You never asked!”
“So?” Piper retorted, “You should have told us you have active powers!”
“First of all,” Chris said bluntly, “Active power. Singular. Secondly, I thought you knew! I thought the fact that I was part-witch was self-explanatory!”
When Phoebe saw that the argument was starting to get out of hand, she stepped in between her whitelighter and eldest sister and tried to calm them down, “Okay, everybody take a deep breath,” she said while setting the example for Piper to follow. She then turned to face Chris, “You should have told us,” she said while pointing her finger at him, to stop him from firing back a response. She then turned to Piper, “And you, missy, are overreacting. He’s got a point. We didn’t ask. Why don’t we all go sit down?” she suggested as she dragged a glaring Piper into the living room and sat her down on the couch. She then took the place next to her.
Paige and Chris followed. Paige took a seat next to her sisters and Chris stayed standing a few feet away from the couch.
“So, Chris,” Phoebe said, turning her attention on the young whitelighter, no, witch-whitelighter that stood in front of her, “What’s your power?”
“I’m telekinetic,” he said for what felt like the thousandth time that day.
“Like Paige,” Piper said, having calmed down slightly.
“No,” Chris said with a sigh. He waved his hand at a picture frame on a nearby table and it flew into his hands.
“But before, you used your eyes to channel your power,” Paige stated.
“I couldn’t use my hands cuz I was holding the boxes,” he explained putting the picture back down, “I can channel my power through my eyes but it’s a lot stronger when I use my hands.”
There came an awkward silence as Chris stood in the spotlight. Piper finally found her voice to state what she was thinking, “How come your power isn’t like Paige’s? You’re part-whitelighter too.”
“I honestly don’t know,” Chris said after Piper had voiced the question he had been asking himself all his life, “I can orb things to me, but my regular telekinesis is so much stronger, that I hardly ever bother.”
There was a silence as all three sisters let the new information about their whitelighter sink in. Paige hadn’t really thought about what Chris being part-witch actually implied. She had been too immersed in her moving to think about it properly.
A thought struck her, “You’re not dead.”
Chris laughed at his aunt’s comment, “Thank god for that”
This was when it first hit the girls that Chris was actually like them. They had always assumed that Chris had died and that it was his choice and destiny to be their whitelighter. But they realized then that Chris probably had a life in the future, with friends and family and that he had left them all behind to try and stop the demon from hurting Wyatt.
Chris began to feel awkward as silence enveloped the manor and he decided that he’d been distracted from his work for far too long, “I’ve gotta go. I’ll see you later.” With those words said, he orbed out, leaving three very pensive charges behind.
