That we don't know. Only that the emphasis was always supposed to be on the sisters, so any guy didn't last beyond one season. Not very realistic, which is undoubtedly why that changed.
We do know that the original ending of Season Three was supposed to be the same, but that all three sisters would've survived. I've read that Phoebe would've remained in the Underworld - the start of her being evil rather than the whole Cole-become-mortal-and-take-in-the-Source's power-after-the-Hollow-left-him routine, but that's never been verified.

Just a query Es, but what source suggests that that was the original end for Season Three? I always presumed that Connie AND Kern (as people seem to forget that they worked together on this, as Connie had directorial and writing input up until Season 4) knew that there was a good chance that they're were four possibilities:
1) Shannen would quit. 2) Alyssa would quit. 3) Both would quit; leaving the show in limbo. 4) They would both stay.
The ending left it open for any of these things to happen as Charmed Again could've been adapted for Phoebe's death and it also set it up so it would look as if all the sisters died, leaving the show on a cliffhanger if it was ultimately cancelled.

The source was just another member at a different site and I have no idea who his source was. That's why I'm saying I don't know how correct my info is.
I don't think Connie had that much input once Kern took over in Season Three - my guess is her 'consultant" status was in name only. And if indeed AHBL was part of her original storyline, I truly doubt that she had any idea that one of the actresses was going to leave since they all got along so well during the first couple of seasons - she would have no reason to think that.
Of course, that's just speculation on my part.
Setting it up in case the show was cancelled, now that makes a lot more sense. I sure thought it was the last episode and a lot of times, I still wish it was.

I think credit where credit was due - it was good at covering all bases in that sense.

As much as I love this episode, it makes me sad for three reasons- A) No more Shannen B) Holly and Shannen together in this episode makes me wish they'd killed off Phoebe. C) I thought season 3 is where they had it just right- back when they had 2 powers each (I heard Connie intended for the sisters to have 3 each eventually which would make sense).

Are you saying that the Oracle was more powerful than the Seer? Because I find that hard to believe. Actually, I don't see any evidence that one was more powerful than the other.
