I finished reading " I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson quite a while ago - I really enjoyed it. Although it was a little slow at times, it was well written and the ending is very good (in comparison with the film, IMO). Lately I've also read a few Charmed books; " The Kiss of Darkness" - it was good, although I wasn't too keen on the plot (Prue is kissed by a stranger at the stroke of midnight but from then on she feels the urge to kiss any man she meets. However, the PO3 learn that Prue is under a spell and she is being drained of her life with every kiss (as are the men she has kissed) so they try to find out who cursed her so they can break the spell...). However, it was nice to see Piper having some romance (not with Leo or Dan). " The Crimson Spell" - this one was good too. Plot: Piper decides to become a mentor to a girl at a homeless center, Phoebe joins a karate class where she meets a guy and Prue develops a friendship with a woman who works in a magic shop - little do they know that these new friends are involved in (actual) magic themselves. I do like the idea of the spell that's cast on the sisters though - their powers are 'reversed'; so Piper freezes herself instead of others, etc. It's nice to see how the sisters develop their new friendships and there are a few nice twists at the end. " Whispers From the Past" - out of the three, this is probably my favourite. Plot: The sisters are out shopping when they find a demon and as they are trying to vanquish him, he opens a time portal/rift and Phoebe is sucked into it. Piper and Prue refuse to believe she is dead even though all that's left of her are the clothes she was wearing. Phoebe finds herself (naked) in 1676 where she is taken in by a man (Hugh) living with Melinda Warren's daughter, Prudence and her daughter, Cassandra. Phoebe finds it tough living in the 1600s and with Hugh's unwanted flirting but when she finds out Prudence has the Book of Shadows she tries to get her to help her vanquish the demon that brought her here so she can get home. Things seem to be going to plan, until she is accused of witchcraft and is hunted by the townsfolk. In the present day, Prue and Piper find themselves becoming evil due to the demons effect on 1600s Prudence, however, by stealing warlocks' powers, Piper gains the power to turn back time... I really enjoyed this story, I've always liked the Charmed episodes when they go back (or forward) in time and meet their relatives. Also, it's interesting to read how Piper and Prue become evil and the way this affects their way of thinking (and their dress sense ).

Some more books I've read lately: " The Judas Strain" by James Rollins - I bought this because it caught my eye in the store and the blurb made it sound interesting (even though it has things to do with science and religion) but once I started reading it, I just couldn't stop! It was a really good book - it's part of a series and it's one of the newest so I've missed some of the earlier ones but I will be buying them too, however, it didn't feel as though any information from previous books was missing because the way it was written made it so it is a self-contained book yet part of a larger series. It's about this team, Sigma Force, who find a hidden artifact which leads them to discover cannibals, ancient diseases and cures and it's a lot more interesting than I can describe it, lol. Anyway, I really like it because it doesn't just follow one group of people, at times it follows 3 or 4 groups of people who are in different places all over the world. The story is good, the characters are all great and there are some nice twists and shocks! It's worth a read, and a re-read! " No Time For Goodbye" by Linwood Barclay - I bought this before it even noticing it was on the top sellers list because the blurb sounded interesting. It's about a girl, Cynthia, who goes home late one night and finds her mother, father and brother have all disappeared without a trace. The story then follows her 25 years on when she's married and has her own daughter but she is still trying to find out what really happened to her family. The book was very, very good and it's great because it's not written from Cynthia's point of view - it's from her husbands which gives it a different feel. There are lots of twists and unexpected revelations and it was another can't-put-down book with great characters which I would certainly recommend! " The Tales of Beedle the Bard" by J.K. Rowling - Although I've only read the first 2 Harry Potter books and watched 2 or 3 of the films, I bought this because it was on offer when I bought some other books, lol. It contains 5 Harry Potter-styled fairy tales and it's just nice to read because of the twist it has (because of the way it's aimed at Witches and Wizards ). Not much more I can say really, but it's a fun book and it made sense even without reading the Harry Potter book it's mentioned in.

Last month I also read: " Walking Ollie" by Stephen Foster - I bought this book because when I saw it in the shop it reminded me of "Marley & Me" (which I read last year and really enjoyed!). The book is about the author and his wife and how they cope with their new Lurcher dog, Ollie. It's a really enjoyable read - it's funny and emotional and the dog is adorable! It's only a short story and I would recommend it to dog owners or people who like dogs. " Eclipse" by Stephenie Meyer - I really enjoyed "Eclipse" (although I still enjoyed "New Moon" the most ). I will write more about it in the Twilight thread.
