I would think that they might have tried to go back and save Prue, but I'm certain they wouldn't have been able to, not via Clyde at any rate. But going through other methods, they could. But not save Prue. That, like trying to save Patty, wasn't something that was allowed. Why? That''s one of the many, many inconsistencies of Charmed.
By the way, the example you chose - Phoebe going back and changing her past - isn't a good one - after all, P. Russell still died. Better examples are "That Seventies Episode", "All Halliwell's Eve", Season 6 and "Forever Charmed"

Headache alert by just thinking about it.  Though I use this scheme as well but recently I decided not too often (see above!). If Clyde would give me this opportunity, I think I would take it. And I think Piper and Phoebe would have to but they may have learned well from their Mom: That when one door closes, another one opens. Or similar.  |

Prue was the first thought I had too when Clyde offered Piper and Phoebe a chance to visit anything in the past, not John Lennon. And if not to save her(since Clyde is sort of a like the ghost of Christmas past and only helps his clients relive it and also Shannen couldn’t return), but atleast Piper or Phoebe could’ve communicated their desire to just see her. But the other sister or Leo might’ve just said it would be too hard and better not to if they needed to move on. Another argument could be of Clyde not guaranteeing a safe trip home. One of his clients Leo healed had thirty two broken bones or something. So what if Piper and Phoebe got hurt while Leo is with Paige? And why do we Charmed fans always have to make-up stuff for missing scenes, unexploited opportunities and plotholes?  |

Because we love trying to fill in the missing pieces! It's why sometimes I'm glad that there were so many screwups and inconsistencies - gives us something to discuss this many years later!

And also read and write fanfics to try and fix those things. But despite all that, still can't stop loving Charmed ;D

I would've thought they would've wanted to go back for Prue, but Since they wouldn't have Shannon return or use old footage, I can understand why they decided to have Phoebe say John Lennon, even though that was just really out of the norm and random.
I always figured, they never went back to save Prue (if you remove Shannons depature) due to the fact that it was Prue's time to die. It was her destiny. The Angel of Death hinted he was coming for her because she would've died trying to protect inspector Davidson. So if they went back to save her from Shax, she would've died anyway. She was going to die by protecting an innocent which at first was supposed to be inspector Davidson, in the end, she died the same way by trying to protect and innocent which was the Dr in All Hell Breaks Loose.
Take Paige, she tried to change the event with her parents and thought she could change the past, change destiny, But her parents wound up dying anyway. The same way to be exact. Car crash and explosion. If they could go back in time and save everyone, then Grams and their mom would still be alive. But morally thats wrong. Because it was their proper time for death including Prue.
I know in S5 Piper time traveled because Pheobe and Paige died. This is the problem I had. I would've thought she would've went for Prue and Piper, then eventually find Paige. But theres just so many errors and flaws. By using destiny, they cheated it with this episode along with Forever Charmed. It doesn't make sense to me really. Just one of the reasons why I avoid S5 6 and 8 altogether. By them doing this... they basically threw everything Death explains to Prue under the bus about destiny and peoples rightful time to die.

It is cool to fill in the blanks so to speak and all but when you stop loving charmed you may as well not bother. It is a sad day to hate charmed is all I can say. Me I am happy and proud to say I adore this show this show just gets better and better the more times you watch it. Yes I do have a least favourite show but overall I adore the show. I must say even thought I hate the 3 blonde show I do admire the actors who played the three blonde girls they did the role well and to me I don't like the way the characters acted cause they were just so annoying. Grrrr.
