Discuss season 2.
Was Dan and Piper ever meant to be together?
Has 10 years changed your opinion about season 2 and it's characters.

This season always causes some debate in my eye. Personally, I like Dan and Piper, but I don't know their relationship seemed so one-dimensional and boring, you knew right from the off that Piper would always choose Leo. I think some of the stand-alone episodes such as Morality Bites, Astral Monkey, Awakened, Ms. Hellfire. They all have strong story plots, but I think by the end of the season, it became clear that the 'demon-of-the-week' structure of the season's was tiring. Season 3 involved plot arcs and the demon of the week structure, which payed off.
If I'm honest, it's a 'forgettable' season. Along with Season 5, it is also my least favourite.

MAJOR SPOILIERS - Please Do Not read if you have NOT seen the entire season and I discuss what I think about some of the episodes. Thanks! Now after the success of the first season, Charmed's second season picked off exactly where the first season left off!!!! This season is actually more laid back than the first (Personally just what I think), as it is more light-hearted! But there is still a lot of drama and suspense this season, it's just not as intense as the first!! This season's new characters: Dan and his neice, Jenny who move in next door to the Charmed Ones. This season includes the Piper, Leo, and Dan love triangle! But who will Piper chose? Prue makes a Job Change and Phoebe goes back to college! Personally I would have to fully agree with Astral Alex that Piper was always meant to be with LEO and the whole Dan thing was just to "Fill" in some empty spaces and to cause some friction with Leo. I really think that Piper being with Dan would NOT have had the same "Umph" as the Piper and Leo love issues this season (Along with all the following seasons) had. My FAVE episode from season two: Awakened-Amazing Episode! "When Piper becomes ill because of a deadly disease, Prue and Phoebe casts a spell to save her only to cause deadly consequences!" This episode is also a Charmed best, The ending was emotional!!! Prue decides to quit her job at Bucklands, Phoebe decides to go back to college, and Leo becomes mortal! There is NO other word but AMAZING to describe this episode My LEAST Fave Ex Libris-Weak episode! "Phoebe must help her dead classmate, Charlene, while Prue must help a depressed father find justice for his daughter's murder!" Piper meets Leo's old wife! The main plot dragged but I liked how they used Charlene to make the murderer confess, it was a nice touch! Any thoughts on my thoughts? ***Please remember that these are my thoughts and are NOT meant to upset anyone, If you have different thoughts please share***

Everytime I watch S2 I like it more and more. Sure it isnt Charmeds best season but it still had great character moments and plenty of great episodes.
Dan was like the Riley of Charmed. He wasnt that bad but certainly not great. Though they kind of missed the ball with this niece Jenny who just dissapeared anywhere due to noone liking her that much.
It was a overall season for the sisters though.
Prue going from Bucklands to 415, her dealing with Andys death, trying to get back into the dating scene, going without a job for a while.
Piper opening up her nightclub P3 was great to see and it gave us a new hang out location for everyone.
Phoebe and her college life was enjoyfull and this was probably her in her prime.

I really like Season Two for the most part as there was a really good crop of episodes with the weakest probably being How To Make a Quilt Out of Americans. The best...there were too many to choose really, Morality Bites, Ms Hellfire, P3H20, Pardon My Past, Awakened, Apocalypse Not etc...and I actually quite liked episodes such as Painted World and Ex Libris too.
I think Jenny was a waste of screen time, if they were going to bring in a young, recurring character, it should of been a magical one. Perhaps Darryl finds an orphaned kid (maybe a slightly naughty one) who turns out to be magical so instead of sending him to a home where he can do damage, he asks the sisters if they can watch him temporally.
As for Dan, the others hit the nail on the head. He was a stop gap and only served as a plot device for Piper/Leo. The character never served as a real threat to the couple as quite frankly, he wasn't better than Leo in anyway. He could offer her a normal life...but being Charmed, her life never would of been normal!
And those who say there was no plot arcs in S1 and 2 clearly forget Andy and Dan. Both were used as plot arcs for Prue and Piper respectively, just as Cole was for Phoebe in S3. Granted, Cole's storyline was more prominent and effected all three of them more, (while A & D only really effected one) their storylines were still plot arcs.

Yeah, I think there's a difference between Character Arcs and Plot Arcs, to be honest. Season 2 did have Character Arcs, but the only continuing plotline they had was of the crazy Doctor, and that was just two spaced out episodes rather than an arc.

Rodriguez was a short, three episode arc, Hannah and Rex was a six episode arc that is one less than Zankou and his storyline is considered a pretty big plot arc.
Granted, Season Two lacked a main plot arc but as you've said, had a season long character arc as well as smaller character arcs for Prue and Phoebe (life after Andy/going back to college). But then again, what was the big plot arc of Season Five?

This is my favorite season of Charmed! Unlike so many other fans, I liked the "Demon of the Week" format because it allowed the show to concentrate on relationships, much more important to me than the next demon.
I loved the fact that Prue continued to mourn Andy and the fact that she found someone she could just have fun with--I got a kick out of Jack! No other Charmed One has grieved for the one who was supposed to be *her* guy beyond the episode following that one's death. Prue was still mourning Andy halfway through the season in "Murphy's Luck"
I loved the whole bit with Piper choosing between Leo & Dan. Personally I still think she should've chosen Dan, especially if Leo could've learned to love Prue or Phoebe or, best, Paige. To me, Dan represented the normal life Piper craves so much. If Piper had married Dan, Leo would still be a whitelighter, his calling, what he's destined to be. Leo represented the wicca life that Piper doesn't want. For the one who wants to be a witch the least to end up with a magical guy just doesn't make sense.
Unfortunately, Dan ended up being a creep, but only after Awakened, when he discovered Piper's true feelings, even before Piper did! And Piper & Leo *are* soulmates, no matter if they should be or not!! In the latter seasons I missed Leo my angel *so* much!!
I loved Phoebe going back to school and the way she cared about the innocents and her sisters *so* much. I still miss my Phoebs dreadfully, even more than my Leo!! She was still a bit of a PhoeME, but in a loveable way, since she was the baby, something that didn't translate once she was forced to become the middle sister.
And she definitely wasn't Freebie!! In fact, with the way she was with Cupid during "Heartbreak City", I was certain that she was "all talk and no action" - that Cole was truly her "first", "Hyde School Reunion" notwithstanding.
Speaking of Cole, we also discovered that the way Piper's soulmate is an angel, Phoebe's soulmate is a demon--Anton. No wonder she was attracted to Cole - he reminded me *so* much of Anton - but why she never truly loved Cole, but only what she wanted him to be. All of Phoebe's guys were tall, dark and dangerous-looking--just like her soulmate, Anton.
I always wished that he'd come back for her as she thought he would someday. If she could've reformed him by truly loving him, as she never did Cole, then he would've made a great guy for her, much better than Coop.
Some of my favorite innocents were part of this season and so were some of my favorite demons. And my all-time favorite eppi, "Morality Bites", was part of it. Each time the sisters (or Piper's younger son) forget that Wrong Things Done for the Right Reason are still Wrong, and We're Supposed to Protect the Innocent, Not Punish the Guilty, I cringe!
I can't call this season perfect. After all, it includes one of the most annoying characters ever invented on Charmed - Jenny - only Billie was more annoying and there were a few eppis that were very simply bad, but even they always helped push the season along, like "Animal Pragmatism" (I LOVED Leo's Valentine for Piper!) and "How to Make an American out of a Quilt"--Piper first making it clear how little she wanted to be a witch and why she should've chosen Dan and not Leo.
But for me, even if it's not perfect, it comes closer to being perfect than any other season. Hence the reason why it's my favorite.
A+/ 9 out of 10 stars/ EXCELLENT!

Season two:
It seems as if this season was very much a Kim Kardashian season (big on the back end). Many good episodes appeared at the end of the season (such as awakened, ex libris, chick flick...) while the front side was dominated by the much loved but overly analyzed morality bites.
Prue was too much into Andy to start with and that was rather bad.
I didn't really focus too much on Dan since by then we knew about the big whitelighter deal and the writers would not toss Danny into that mix no matter how hard he (the actor) fought for it.

I have never been that enamored of Season Two. Despite a few progressions in the story - Prue dealing with Andy's death and leaving Bucklands; Piper's love triangle and Phoebe going to college; I've always found it stagnant. I think that Connie Burge was too unwilling to take the series into another direction. If Brad Kern had not done exactly this in Season Three, I would have given up on the show after this second season. It is my least favorite of the show's early period.

I liked season 2 to an extent.. although I do agree about plot arcs. .. I think some of the episodes lacked alot of 1st season "spunk".. and I liked Piper and Dan a ton while they were together but always rooted for Leo even tho it broke my heart when Dan was..out.. =[

I don't know where I exactly stand with Season 2. The whole arcs were too splitted for me and I missed a concept, I think. Though the triangle between Piper, Leo and Dan was interesting but Jenny (and Dan) were useless when the whole plot may already have gone to Piper and Leo as a couple. Why then bring in Dan and his niece Jenny. Doesn't make sense. And the major factor was and is still to be honest with their powers if need be.
Prue looking for a new job and Phoebe returning to college gave new perspectives but in the end, nothing would work. Phoebe would stop her college eventually (again) and Prue finally would find a new life as a photographer. New chances?

Phoebe didn't stop college, they just focused on it less on the show the next season because she graduated close to the end of the third season.

With how wrapped up in Cole she was, I'm amazed that she graduated! When did she ever have time to go to study - especially to graduate from college? The amazement of serial television.

I liked the season, there are some eps that I like even more whenever I watch them again. I liked the way new characters and future adventures were introduced. S2 is when The Source is first mentioned as a threat. "P3H2O" introduced us to Sam who will play an important part in future seasons. I liked the continued saga of the Leo/Piper relationship. Dan plays a useful role, that of a non-magical person who comes into the sisters lives and complicates matters even further in their relationship, as if the Elders aren't enough of the problem. Still, it was good when the storyline with him ended. It did not need to go on any longer. Favorite eps? Certainly "Morality Bites" was the most emotional and downright scary. It looked like Phoebe really was going to get buned alive. I liked Ex Libris very much - 3 different threads, Piper and Leo and Leo's wife, Charlene and Phoebe, and Prue facing an evil that was not supernatural/ Thought Chick Flick was a great satire on supernatural slasher films. I might have ended the season with Apocalypse Now, with its foreshadowing of what was to come with The Source and moved the Be Careful what You Witch For elsewhere. Speaking of non-demonic evils that challenged the sisters. there are Awakened and the sequel Astral Monkey. Where it started with Piper not misusing magic but evading fruit inspections requirements-which still brought consequences and unforeseen happenings. There are some episodes I like more, but I cannot think of one that could not bear to watch again.

I've been re-watching season 2 and I don't think it's that bad as I remembered. Weird how you watch something years later and your opinions change. Anyone else feel the same way?

I always enjoyed season two, it's always been one of my favorite seasons. I guess I could say after some re-watching I don't find season 5 as bad as I did. It's still not one of my favorites, but I can appreciate the gems within it now.

I felt that this season was good because it was quite "simple". The girls weren't too inexperienced as they were in season 1, yet they still had things to learn. It was a maturing season, kinda like season 5, but without the exaggeration of the Underworld's presence - it had more real life presence like in Ex Libris or Animal Pragmatism. That's something I like. I hated the fact that they exaggerated the use of the Underworld.
Plus, for me in this season the girls were at their best in terms of aspect: Piper was simply perfect in That Old Black Magic, Phoebe when she was Present Phoebe in Pardon My Past, and Prue in the beginning of That Old Black Magic. She was also very cute in the end of Apocalypse Not, and, she looked like Rene (Mallrats) in the beginning of She's A Man Baby, A Man.
In season 1, Prue was still very thin, with short hair and very serious, Piper was still with that hair covering the forehead (fringe) and Phoebe, she was cute, but a bit not so cute in the beginning. In season 3, they all got a bit more fat, specially Phoebe, and Shannen started showing signs on pre-ageing.
I liked the fact that Phoebe was still fun - she became BORING when Cole came along. I liked the drama between Dan and Leo lol, and I liked the fact that Prue was single and getting nice guys like Jack and Bane - which didn't happen much in season 3.

One thing which stood out and which I really liked was how Prue and Phoebe became so close and caring with each other. May have been partially because they were thrown together because of Piper's pre-occupation with Dan vs. Leo. Considering how S1 began with two so estranged from each other and Piper caught in the middle as mediator, these positive developments and growth on part of both of them are a delight. S3 of course brings tension between sisters back in the picture with the appearance of Cole.
