What was the purpose of the character Jenny? Did anyone like her character?
I think the character Jenny was meant to give the guy next door dynamic a spin.
I personally didn't like her character. I think the reason why she was written out of the show mid way was because of her unpopularity.
What do you think?

Charmed really didn't know how to write young women/teenaged girls. Aviva (The Fourth Sister), Jenny (Season 2) and Billie (Season 8) were all extremely annoying. I think they were set up to try to make the sisters seem more, I don't know, maternal, but it didn't succeed. Like Chris, most of them tended to be selfish and self-centered, giving you no reason to want to care about them. Simply annoying. Like a lot of things in Charmed, good idea; bad execution.
For me, Jenny was the hugest blight on my favorite season. Had they made her someone likeable, it would've been even better.

I didn't like her. She was there and that was it! She was gone just as quickly as well. No concern for me.

As useless as she was, I could have seen some sort of potential. Perhaps, she learned the secret of the sisters by accident before Dan? And therefore dislikes the relationship between Piper and Dan? Although, I do think she was turning out to be the stereotypical hormonal teenage girl. Glad she was written out.

IMO Jenny was the writers way of trying to introduce someone young so their younger audiences could attach to and relate with. Which of course didnt happen and she was written off. She was just to innocent and annoying. If they had gone the Ava route with the character, it woudlve been a lot better.
Or even if they started out with the innocent route then have her learn the sisters secret early on only to have her want to be like them so much and have powers that she mistakenly makes a pact with a demon who gives her power and manipulates her to no end. Again basically like Ava except more prolonged.

I'm not sure if that would've worked simply because they had already used that with Aviva.
Had Jenny been a bit more likeable and found out about their powers and wanted to be part of their "coven" until she found out what could happen, she might have been a more viable character. As was, she wasn't.

I reckon they should of introduced her before Dan, as an innocent. Get saved, learn about the sisters and then by luck, it turns out she lives next door. She could become obsessed with the sisters, so much so that Dan eventually sends her back to her parents, not knowing why she is so obsessed.

I agree that Jenny was brought onto the show to get younger audiences involved in the show - I think with this role it was the actress (or possibly director) not the writers that made the character not so good.
I also LOVED Aviva, and would have enjoyed that character in the show more!

According to Obscurus Lupa, Jenny was written out because "she had no useful purpose". WTF!
If that was the case, then why did they have her on the show to begin with? It seems all she did was come over to the Manor at inconvenient times to annoy the sisters. Was that the sole purpose of Jenny? No wonder they got rid of her.
And WHY was she included in the opening credits? She was in FOUR episodes. Rex and Hannah got more screen time than Jenny ever did, yet I never saw them in the opening credits.

I actually didn't mind Jenny, she was sweet, she was a typical 14 year old girl. I imagine the reason they bought her in was to try and maybe appeal to a younger audience. Sadly it failed because no one really liked her and the producers didn't really know what to do with her.

Jenny was too much milk and water, I didn't like her and I was a teen too, but more independent and smart, she looked like a parody of a teenager

Seems they realized early on what a mistake Jenny was and corrected it. Of course, this was the Burge era, when that happened more often, mistakes were corrected.

I kind of feel that she didn't get enough of a chance. I felt the same way about her as I did with Dawn from Buffy initially (urgh, go away) but a grew to like Dawn, so Jenny could've easily grown on people.

Again basically like Ava except more prolonged. I've started watching Season 2 remastered. I am really not liking Witch Trial. However, I do that that Dan was really scripted as a short term love interest for Phoebe, not Piper. Whether Jenny and Dan were Constance M Burge's idea, I am unsure. But I feel like it was but then the original intent overtaken by other writers or Brad Kern. But I feel that it would have been the right time for Phoebe to have a short term love interest - as we only saw Phoebe with Clay. Prue had Andy and Jack later on. Piper had a string of love interests. It seems like in Witch Trial, that Phoebe and Dan have some immediate chemistry. And Phoebe is drawn to Jenny. I think that post Season 1 focus groups showed that Charmed attracted a younger audience. They inserted Jenny so that Phoebe could grow by guiding and teaching a young girl. Hence the periods/tampons, sperm and the egg conversations, wanting to go to P3. With Leo scripted in from the 2nd episode, I truly think that Dan was supposed to be a love interest for Phoebe and Jenny would have been a component for her growth, stepping up from being the younger, more irresponsible sister - and then Dan being Phoebe's first attempt at opening her heart up to love.

Considering Alyssa and Greg Vaughan (Dan's actor) dated in real life, they, too, felt the chemistry. XD
