Saw this at another site and found it interesting: Paige forgave Patty for abandoning her, but Paige resented and hated Sam. Like what makes Patty different from Sam? [/quote] Whatcha think??? I also always found it odd that Paige called Patty Mom right away and yet seemed to have something against her blood Dad. Shouldn't the names "Mom" and "Dad" be saved for her REAL ones - the ones who raised her?

This is a really great question, and one I have not thought about before.
It is weird, because Patty says in Charmed Again that it was for everyones safety, and that they did it to keep Paige safe. Perhaps she was mad because her father was a no good drunk and the Elders blindsided her with her new charge? Or maybe it was the fact that Patty wanted to see Paige and Sam didn't as much.. Hmm!

Maybe because her mother was already dead and couldn't talk to Paige because she'd have to appear as a ghost or a stranger in Paige's dream?
Sam was a drunk, homeless and her first charge as a whitelighter on top of being her bio-dad. And then didn't he take off and not talk to her again until like season 7? (Yeah, it's been a while since I watched that storyline).

Paige had been searching for Patty, and when they finally met I'm sure Paige felt a connection. Unlike Sam, who she never mentioned of searching for. Sam always harbored guilt for Patty's death and so I'm sure he thought that if he had contact with Paige she would end up like Patty. That's just what I thought, Paige only "hated" Sam because she never had the urge to search for him and when she did meet him I'm assuming her image of bio dad was shattered.

When she met Sam he wasn't in the best place, what with his drinking and outlook on life and she might have thought he was always like that. So they didn't start off on the right foot to begin with really.

But that still leads to the question - why was she just searching for Patty and not Sam? She definitely didn't know that Sam was an ex-whitelighter and was howevermanyyearsitwas old, and still felt guilty about letting Patty die. He could've been married and had a family. So why was she so anxious to find "Mom" and her family but not anxious to find "Dad" and his? When she was searching for Patty, she had no way of knowing that Sam was a drunk or even dead, since as a whitelighter there'd be no death certificate from when he saved the sisters.
My explanation? The producers wanted her to be part of the Charmed family right away so it was more important to them to have her be looking for the Halliwells. It's also why we never met any living person in her real family.
But that's the "real world" explanation. What's the "Charmedverse" explanation?
Of course, she might not have known that her blood mother and her blood father weren't married - she may have thought that the sisters' father was also hers and that there was another reason for them to give her up. But for all that she wanted to find out about her blood mother's family, I'm surprised that she didn't go find Sister Agnes earlier.

Maybe she just wanted to see her mum because she wanted that bond. Not that mothers are more important than fathers, but that connection is needed isn't it. Plus she shared the same mum as her sisters so that could have been why she wanted that connection more. Good explanation though.

Except she had that bond with her REAL mother - her adopted one. Having her call Patty "Mom" right away was a horrible mistake on Brad Kern's part, just showing how badly he wanted her to replace Prue.

She did but that was exactly that - her adopted mother, maybe she was just curious. It was soon but I don't know..first time she met her and everything, it was emotional.

Yes, it was, but her calling Patty "Mom" took a lot away from it because it was such an insult to her real mom.
I would've preferred if Patty had said, "Paige?" and Paige said, "You're Patty? Patty Halliwell? You're my blood mother?" and then have Patty nod, open her arms, say, "Welcome to the family" and have them hug.
That way I would've snuffled rather than roll my eyes.
So many moments in Charmed that should've been touching were instead "Give me a break!" moments. Like Lupa said in her review, "If Charmed has a good idea, they'll find a way to make it stupid." That is just so, so true.

Yeah that would have been more realistic but I think she did It out of shock more than anything. They were in so much shock they Didn't say much. I don't think it was an insult to her mother but I see Your point, it was similar when Paige first met Grams because She didn't think of get as her grandmother because she already Had one.

Exactly so. So why did she treat Patty that way and not Grams that way??
I think it was more to try to manipulate us, the viewer, into accepting Paige as a Charmed One rather than them trying to make Paige real. And for me, it didn't work.
