That's the fun of messageboards. As the Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz puts it, "You can think of things you never thunk before!"

I think their mother or grandmother. They were watching over them and guiding them to their destiny.

OOOOO! I also really like the idea that Jeremy as a warlock (evil witch) could've cast a spell that allowed him to lead Phoebe to the attic. He could've even been the one who used his magic to make the electricity go bad. OOOO, all sorts of interesting possibilities! I wish he'd stuck around a bit longer - like Cole, it would've been nice for us to not find out what they really were until farther into their season. I agree! Jeremy was a great villain, the scene at the end of the episode with him screaming was HILARIOUS because he was owning it so well haha. Also yes, I think they should have drummed up the mystery of Cole WAY longer.

I just always assumed it was Grams. But, after reading some of these comments, and how Prue was able to free herself from Barbas (back in S1), I'm thinking their mother (Patty), myself. She was dead longer, had more hope in her daughters than their own grandmother. And, was the one who helped Prue know about Barbas, so I'mma choose to believe Patty

I definitely think that Jeremy is a possibility. He said that he had been watching them and waiting until they received their powers to make his move, so maybe he was just waiting for Phoebe to return and for his chance to guide them to restore their powers. It showed him creeping outside of their house in the episode, so maybe he was waiting for a way to guide one of the sisters to the attic - Phoebe got the spirit board randomly, and he used this as his opportunity to send them a message to go to the attic. Patty could have also easily put a spell on the spirit board, and that is why it spelt attic. She could have even cast the spell as a ghost after her death when she found out grams was planning on keeping their powers from them. Food for thought! What a neat theory. I never would've thought of that. We always thought it could've been Patty with Grams a possible second. But he did so happen to be lurking watching them once Phoebe cast the spell. So its a possibility.

Also yes, I think they should have drummed up the mystery of Cole WAY longer. They did reveal Cole as a demon right away. It was an interesting choice than keeping the mystery. But I guess they pulled the "who is he card" with Leo in S1 and decided to do it differently. If they went the other direction. Julian would have less screentime likely and we'd see more Belthazor than Cole in demonic scenes. Maybe they could've extended the Abbey story to have them running side by side a few episodes to confuse the audience on who is the demon and who is the human stalker. Same with one of Prue's dates. And Jeremy having cast the spell is all sorts of interesting. If he did stick around and became Piper's Cole but we the audience don't know until the episode they discovered he was a warlock. If you threw in Leo you could confuse the audience that it's him. Obviously he wouldn't be dating Piper in these episodes until much later.

I remember posting something similar on Reddit, and one of the commentors said "Leo", since he was responsible in ensuring Prue got Max's message, in S1E14 "Secrets & Guys"

I like to think it was no one, but instead just magic itself. The idea that it was Grams or Patty is nice, but it kind of feels like when the Wizard of Oz was revealed to just be a man behind a curtain. It all felt so much more powerful as this unseen entity with no name. Similar to when the Elders were revealed and given names. They went from invisible forces with unquestionable power to just Bob and Susan or whoever meeting Paige on the bridge.
