I think in a show about sisterhood, having a sister die made for an interesting story line if nothing else. However, later on, it became less and less about sisterhood and more about kids and boyfriends. The attention shift could have still happened eventually even if Shannen had stayed, we'll never know, but somehow I imagine the downfall wouldn't have been quite so steep (total conjecture on my part there).
I will say however that I don't blame Charmed's drop in quality on Paige's introduction. As lousy as Rose's acting may have been later on, I still think it was the writing first and foremost.

And actually Rose's acting was very good in Season Four. It was only when she got bored that it got bad.
I think that the whole kids/boyfriends bit would've continued with Shannen or without her. If she was yelping about the scripts in Sesaon Three, I can imagine how much she'd yelp about the fairytale ones of Season Five and probably would've quit long before it went eight seasons (also conjecture on my part), but sex is what TheWB wanted in order to try to save their dying network, so sex is what it got...

And actually Rose's acting was very good in Season Four. It was only when she got bored that it got bad. Totally agree, she was great in season 4. A Paige From the Past and The Fifth Halliwheel were particularly good performances I thought. |

prue´s death was de best thing that could have ever happened in charmed anyone else share my feeling??
Piper and Phoebe just lost sister Prue . Charmed is my favorite TV show . I have been Charmed every time.

I was sad that Prue killed by Shax. Leo came back to save Piper and Prue the second time and saved Piper but not Prue because she was already dead.
Piper and Phoebe just lost sister Prue . Charmed is my favorite TV show . I have been Charmed every time. I was sad to the first time Prue died but then when I rewatched the episode again my opinion changed on that as the sisters only had themselves to blame over what happened in the end with Phoebe going down the Underworld leaving her sisters behind and then Prue and Piper exposing themselves afterwards not thinking of the consequences beforehand. |

Yeah my main issue with AHBL has always been that pretty much everyone involved is inexcusably reckless.

Reckless and stupid. Any other demon, Piper would've frozen the scene as he blew through the door and once it turned into Shax, Prue would've been ready to throw HIM through the wall! We know Piper couldn't blow him up - but neither of these two powers were shown to *not* influence him had they, one or both would already be dead. For them to be terrified into stupidity by something like that simply makes no sense. All part of why so unlike so many other fans, it is not among my top 25 episodes, just like most season premieres and season finales - the two from Season One, "Witch Trial", "Charmed Again, Part One", and most of "Something Wicca This Way Goes" are the only exceptions.

Prue's death saved her a lobotomy ala Kern, so at least I can remember her as an awesome, sassy sister and witch who kicked butt.
If Shannen had stayed until season 8 then Lord only knows where Prue would have ended up, probably married to a leprechaun with a kid who could move things with their mind and rainbow-port.
Also, Paige is my favorite character, and she would never have been introduced if Prue were still alive, soooo yeah....kinda glad about that.
I think that the main reason the show ended up being about babies instead of sisterhood is because p3 2.0 just wasn't as believable as a unit as p3 1.0, they had less chemistry, less fight in them, less bond.
Now, like I said, Paige is my favorite single character from the show, but I vastly prefer the original power of three as a group.

It's the main reason why I'm glad she died, and at the same time also the same reason why I wish that Phoebe had been the one who died, so I could remember my Phoebs rather than PhoeME. And I could wish that Piper had died during "Awakened" as she should've, so I could remember the wonderful, sweet but sassy Piper of Season One and the wondrousness of her and Leo's relationship that was totally ruined during the latter seasons and the horrible way she treated him after "Awakened". |

Although Paige is not my single favorite character from the show - that will always belong to Phoebs before she "died" in "Sleuthing with the Enemy" - she's one of the few characters I like after Prue died - Victor, Patty, Henry, Drake, Zankou, Tyler, both Seers (Debbi Morgan and Charisma Carpenter's) and little Wyatt are the others., |

I guess if it still lasted 8 seasons under Kern's wing she'd just end up married with three kids like the others.

Which's not what people would've liked from Prue probably as you had Wyatt and Chris already. Most likely her character probably would've gone downhill like the others did except Paige a few times sorter the way the show wrote the sisters all after season 4 which's why it was good Prue died season 3 end then hence her character was well liked and preserved still by fans many years coming. |

I did stop watching when Prue was Killed off I kept coming back as I hoped she would return. This witch never got her wish. I left NCIS when Ziva departed and I think the total cast is aces. If "24" is revived and Jack is absent, so am I. I'm old and I don't deal with change well. Prue was a rock that seldon cracked when in a hard place. Yes, she fell .... but don't we all. The trick is to get back up. Sometimes that can be very hard and painful. Both Piper and Phoebe needed her which Piper expressed but to me Phoebe at times got a little icy, and that was to me not what she started out as. I think Phoebe would have moved it a greater direction if Prue was still there. Of course that could just be wishful thinking. I think the creators and writers of this show had no idea how much staying (power) this series had or could have. They went to work, made money and we watched and hoped and dreamed. Try to find a TV production out there that is generating as much chatter as this long gone show is, even if it is only us at The Cafe. Or just google Charmed and see what pops up. There is a long of links and conversation still in the mist of what was Charmed. It might not matter who was your favorite, this show had and still has power. |

Oh my, thank you p3n. That is so on target. They just had to end with with an assortment of the power of 9 more or less. Or if Prue had lived and Paige still a half sister than we could have had a witchy power of Cheaper By the Dozen of Coven. I see a book in that. |
