Did the Dream Sorcerer use AP?

I recently watched "Dream Sorcerer" (A definite underrated episode) and I was thinking that Whitaker's dream machine allowed for him to Astral Project into people's dreams. I came to this conclusion after seeing the red colour that occurs within the dream, the same color of Prue and Rex when they Astral Projected. Rex also was able to Astral Project within people's conscience when they were awake. Both of their forms were weak because Rex learned how to do it, and Whitaker used technology. Prue was able to Astral Project in a corporal form because it was her power allowing her to do it easier compared to it being unnatural to the others. Although even Prue was exhausted when first utilizing AP. This is just one theory I started to cook up in my brain. Also are the Astral Plane, and Astral Projection linked?

Hard to say.  Rex's (and later Prue's) AP powers came from magic.  Berman's came from technology. 

Berman, in a way, was a Freddy Krueger knock-off.

What happened to Berman after his body died.  Is he now trapped in the dream plane forever, like Freddy Krueger is?

Since his physical body died, his soul died with it and went to whatever afterlife bad mortals go.

I don't think so. His powers were not magical in any way. I also presume he died like any mortal with an afterlife.
