Shannen's WebChat (April 2001)

I already wrote this, but nobody really seemed to notice it. Before All Hell Breaks Loose was aired and Shannen was fired there was a fan chat on Living TV with Shannen that happened around the end of April 2001 (27th or 28th to be precide). Here are the key quotes from it (notice that Shannen indeed confirms that Alyssa is thinking of leaving the show):


Shannen:

Both are very nice. Holly is one of my closest friends



Shannen:

ALyssa wants to leave the show but I sincerely hope she does not



Shannen:

I do all my own stunts on Charmed



Shannen:

Thank you. If you do like the way I work and my stunts, you should let the

network and the producers know.



Shannen:

Shannen here - Yes Alyssa and I get on very well



Shannen:

To describe Holly in three words - sweet, smart and funny.



Shannen:

I will be a part of the show for as long as they want me.



Shannen:

I will be with Charmed for as long as they want me to.



Shannen:

Yes - I love the show. I would never leave it and I don't know why anyone

would.



Shannen:

And yes I'm very grateful to Aaron Spelling for my success



Shannen:

I do not know if Alyssa will be back but the show will be on whatever



Shannen:

Yes - I hope to be directing more episodes.



Shannen:

We start filming Season Four at the end of July.

Oh Shannen, if you only knew.

This should lay to rest the idea that Shannen left Charmed of her own accord.  She clearly had no idea what was coming. 

Of course, the gutless coward that fired her waited until she was thousands of miles away (she was on location here in Canada, shooting a TV Movie) and did it over the phone.  Real classy, Kern.

I feel really sorry for Shannen here, especially the 'we begin Season Four in July' quote. I bet her feud with Alyssa was 70% media hype anyway. Even if they did fall out a bit and weren't as close anymore, how many of us would say we were best friends with all our work colleagues.

I definitely think the "feud" was more like a whimper that was totally blown up by the press. The quote about them starting to film season four is heartbreaking, I so wish things had gone differently. It feels like she was led to believe that they were all coming back for season four, though it seems Alyssa was thinking of leaving, my guess is because of how popular Phoebe was Kern convinced her to stay by firing Shannen. Le sigh. I would happily trade the seasons 4-8 we got in favor of a final season with Shannen. Though I did love the season four we did get.
