What are your Christmas traditions?

Tomorrow I'll be back in my Salamanca, my family usually celebrate the Noche Buena, Christmas Eve, with a party for their old friends, they cook a lot of appetizers, especially shellfish and vegetables, the main course is cod,  my mom fries it and then broils with zucchini and olives, as they do in Catalunya, her mother is from Barcellona

On Christmas day we eat risotto, my dad's specialty, and  caldereta de cordero, lamb stew in white wine with Provencal herbs,and then lots of sweets, my favorite is the Christmas log with chocolate and marron glacé

During the day we exchanged visits and desserts and wine, t'is quite challenging


December 28th is a very popular feast, Los Santos Innocentes, it's celebrated among friends

This year I'll go out soon after with some friends to Marrakech, we'll celebrate the New Year in Morocco, but I'll be to my maternal grandparents where all the family'll celebrate the arrival of the Three Kings on January 6it's the day when people exchange gifts
When I was a child my parents took me to Cabalgada, a great parade of floats, the last was that with Los Reyes Magos throwing candy, on the way back I prepared a snack for the three Kings, but also for their camels: milk and cookies and a big bowl of water for the animals

Christams days are fun when you're a kid, I still feel the magic, I love this time

Hasn't really felt like christmas this year at all cause majority of the US has been very warm in November and December. Feels more more like spring than winter.

We really don't have very many traditions in our family.
Sometime around thanksgiving week my parents start pulling out christmas decorations and tree from storage.
Usually the week before Christmas we went to my great aunt's house in Houston to have a Christmas Lunch before she went up to North Texas to spend christmas with her daughter and her family but since she just recently past away my family plus my sister in law's family came up to College Station last Saturday for lunch and gift givings.

Christmas day it depends on when we get up in the morning,although midnight we get to open our stockings which has chocolate gold coins plus other candies and also and orange to bring good luck for the new year.
Sometimes we read out of the Bible in Luke about the birth of our Savior and my dad gives a talk on what Christmas really is about before we take turns opening gifts.

During the afternoon we have lunch which includes a fried turkey (part of his christmas bonus), ham, gravy,homemade rolls that my mom makes and cranberries. For desserts we have Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Pie or sometimes we'll have christmas cookies. Drinks usually include Orange Soda or Lemon Lime or water.

Christmas late afternoon everybody just does their own thing.

The day after christmas everybody is watching college football bowl games.

Sunday I'll be watching the Texans play the Titans on tv. (Texans need to win out to claim the AFC South title and get a first round bye in the playoffs)

Monday night Texas A&M Aggies take on the Louisville Cardinals in the Music City Bowl in Nashville

Hopefully late next week I get to see A&M take on Arkansas at Reed in basketball. I think this team could probably make a run in the NCAA tournament in March.

Dec.29th is my younger brothers birthday.

For me my family doesn't really have Xmas traditions either.

We get out the decorations around the 2nd week of December and hang them inside and out along with the tree few days later.

Mum and me buy the Christmas food usually the weekend before Santa comes or early that week depending when we can get out which's busy whatever time anyway.

My sister who has additional needs and lives nearby in a residential home spends Christmas with us usually from Xmas eve to after Boxing Day when we take her back that's nice and something she enjoys which's great there.

She loves going out so we take her shopping Xmas eve and Boxing Day places which are open quite long time till around 7pm.

Food wise mum and me have the usual trimmings whilst my sister who's a fussy eater doesn't so she has what she wants.

Xmas day's spent opening presents usually then watching TV or listening to music, me on my laptop and Boxing Day viewing the sales of course which I said previously.

Anyway Merry Christmas everyone.

We don't have big family traditions either.

As my Grandma was still alive, we always visited her on the first or second Christmas day. Just there's always a goose and red cabbage for the holidays. At least, when the landscape is great, I may walk around a bit.
