Charmed books - Questions

I have only read Voodoo Moon and Kiss of Darkness at my school library back in the day. I have not read any other books unfortunately.

I started the novel Leo Rising - and read the first 2 chapters and am enjoying it so far. Let's see what I think dear by the end of it.

I want really want to think of that one, but mostly because it has Chris in it!

Might be fun to start a new thread on what are you favorite Charmed novels.

I've only read six so far, but my favorite book has to be 'Haunted by Desire.' That was really good.

I have no idea how many they made and are still making?

Look on the Charmed Wiki. There was one book that was released a few months back, but only in eBook form. :/ I haven't read it, because I don't have an eBook Reader.

They have released two new in ebook form recently. War of the witches and Let Gorgons be Gorgons. Both great books what I have read so far and are supposed to be based around the end of the comics I think.

 I think I might be due for a reread of the ones I have pretty soon. It kinda doesn't feel right because I have massive holes in the series... Will have to do one soon though.

Actually both take place after Season 9 of the comics and totally ignore Season 10. I count both as my Charmed's head canon's series finale, especially 'Let Gorgons be Gorgons'. I'm curious to know if you end up feeling like you have to read the comics in order to enjoy the ebooks.

According to wikipedia, there were originally 43 novels released, so quite the collection, I think I have around 25 so far, a lot of them are pretty beat up though from too much use, so they may need replacing. Also the sad thing is that out of the 43, only the first 10 had Prue in them. It would be cool to do a sort of book club esque thread where we read or re-read the same novel and then discuss it.

I'd be up for that. The books are definitely different than the show, but I always enjoyed them. If you've got one in mind, I'd love to discuss it.

I'd be up for that. The books are definitely different than the show, but I always enjoyed them. If you've got one in mind, I'd love to discuss it. 

If either of you have Leo Rising? I would discuss that one with you dears - since I just finished it recently. I am reading Whispers from the past right now. I am liking this one too. 

I love the idea of a Cafe book club. Maybe one novel every 3-4 weeks?

Yes I do think you should give this novel a try. 

I hope Voodoo Moon is just as good as Leo Rising and Whispers from the Past (which I am reading currently). Although I see they go on vacation to New Orleans in Voodoo Moon. Which normally never happened in the show rarely where they leave San Francisco. So I am excited to read this one dears.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying "Whispers From the Past" - it's one of my favorites of the series, one of the few that I truly wish had been made into an episode, because all of the characters were *in* character, which isn't always the case - one of the few things I haven't enjoyed about the books, the way I haven't enjoyed some fanfics that do that. Of course the fact that Paul Ruditis wrote "Leo Rising" gives me hope that the characters I love from S9 of the comics will be in "Leo Rising".

It's been a long time since I read "Voodoo Moon" - I'll have to reread it while waiting for "Leo Rising" to get here - but I remember I liked the voodoo parts - I can't remember what I thought of how the characters were written

Never really read any of the comics, I didn't realize the ebooks were only based on season 9. I have read the war on witches that I really enjoyed and felt like I could jump pretty much from tv series into that book without the comics to base on. I've read part one of the Let Gorgons be gorgons book but am unable to get book 2 being unavailable in Aus. Have checked it out as an option on my kindle reader on my phone just not sure whether I would have to reread or not? I could only find part one, unless it's the whole book? I couldn't really tell.

Would definitely be keen on a book club for charmed books! Been a long time since I've done a read of them and definitely well over due for a reread.

I think my most favorite book is "Something Wiccan this Way Comes" (such an original title), but I love it, Darryl reports that their is a Wiccan convention in Vegas and that people are going missing, so the sisters go undercover to try and solve the mystery, it's great to see them interact with other witches.
I've never read Leo Rising but I shall be picking up a copy so I can join in the chat. Maybe someone could make a book club thread? Maybe we could even vote each month on which book to read with polls.

EDIT - I admit it, I have a shopping problem, just bought a lot of 15 Charmed books off ebay for £20 including Leo Rising, I can't resist a deal! I'd be quite happy to send some of these onto people, they don't look like they're in the best condition but I already have a few of them.

Oh I agree - and hope when you have time you can comment in the poll thread I made on which books you like the most. I myself can't comment until this girl has read more of them. 

Your right on that - some books might not be as great and they are not in character. But one thing to note is some of them may have been written ahead of time before the book authors can know much of the seasons plot in advance. So I can make an exception if certain things are not right with continuity. But as long as the sisters are in character, that is a must for me. 

That's fine - I look forward to reading that book Voodoo Moon. I have 6 more chapters of  Whispers From the Past to go dear.

I am loving these books. I am so excited to get as many as I can. Some of these would make great episodes maybe. Once I get more read - I will be able to reply in the book thread on which ones I like. Seeing as I haven't seen many - best to wait until I have read quite a few dear.

Awesome. Looks like Leo Rising will be out first book for the chat then. Unless other's disagree? 

I agree on that dear - one book a month is a good thing. Otherwise some might not have time to read it all. So maybe it is best we set our first book club for 3-4 weeks with Leo Rising. Then have a poll set for December's book. Seeing as the Holidays would be coming by then. Maybe it is best to just start with Leo's Rising and have the poll for the next one set for January. 

What goes everyone else think?

Perhaps a poll for each month's book, we simply take off the book that gets chosen and keep the poll going the next months and so on dears.

Great you managed to find quite a few - which ones were you lucky to get in your 15 Charmed books. I was lucky to find a few in a charity store in fairly good condition. I might be lucky to find some more on ebay or ask my Granddaughter if she has located her ones from so long ago.

Oh, I'm very glad to know that you felt like you could jump from Season 8 straight into "The War on Witches" - that would be good for others who don't want to (or can't) read the comics to know.

Great collection of books. I heard Seasons of the Witch is one that takes place on Halloween and Christmas. So I really want to find that one. So I am guessing it takes place during season 4 or 5? I hope it is 5.
