Season 4 was already written and designed, the writers'ldn't certainly create a new season of nowhere in few time, it'ld be a tomfoolery
But if they were able to write a season focused on Paige, then certainly Charmed'ld stop the season 4
Lose Prue and get 22 episodes dedicated to the life of the unknown Paige, nice outlook for Charmed fans! A choice of this kind'ld have sparked protests not to end!
Although Cole and Phoebe story arc feels the presence of Prue, although Paige in some situations is clearly out of role, in any case Paige is not a Prue's replacement, she has a different personality, lighter, more tolerant

As I said, when an actor leaves a show, that means that previously planned storylines either have to be adjusted or dropped completely. Season Four should have been about Paige, her fitting into her new life, and such. They should have done an episode in which Victor rejects Paige because she sprang from the union that broke up his marriage. This would have been a good storyline. However, Kern was not willing to abandon his Phoebe/Cole/Source storyline, push it back, yes, but abandon it, nope. That is why Paige was robbed of badly needed character development and became just a Prue substitute. Exactly so. Whether they wanted to or not, bringing in Paige meant that they had to scrap everything they had previously planned for Season 4 and start over from scratch. Season 4 should've been like a new Season 1, focusing on Paige and her backstory, as well as Piper and Phoebe learning how to carry on without Prue and form a new Power of Three with Paige. For as important as it was supposed to be to the show, the reconstitution of the Charmed Ones was horribly rushed and received far too little attention.

The Phoebe/Cole/Source story should have been abandoned once Shannen was fired.
First of all, they could have used the extra time to fully flesh Paige's character out.
Second of all, it was clear that Paige's role in that storyline was originally written for Prue. Paige's sudden distrust of Cole, that's Prue talking, not Paige.
But Kern was bound and determined to have that storyline, and if Paige had to give up much needed character development to accommodate it, so be it.

Holly, Alyssa and Shannen had a 4 season contract, does that mean it was only supposed to have lasted 4 seasons and then end? The seasons are planned but not always they are respected: Supernatural had a story for five seasons if it all went well, now they are broadcasting the eleventh, others are closed after a season So, about the actresses four seasons contract , I thin that sneaking suspicions are useless

I think any job has its stressful elements. Paige was good at what she did. And the premise of the show was about three sisters who battle demons and balance being 21st century woman as well. Of course, that job was her dream. The writers kept changing things for no reason. Piper gets a club not a restaurant in season 2, due to WB pressure for musical guests. Paige quits her job for such stupid reasons for story. Phoebe becomes an advise columnist, with her degree she could of been a councilor for young kids who she could help and relate too given her past or something similar, the bay mirror was my least favorite job of all sisters. The writers sadly didn't give the sisters the jobs right or made off changes. I agree about the restaurant for Piper, the love for cooking is part of her character as the heart of the family Instead I think Phoebe's job was suitable for her, it allowed her to help people having a great freedom of time, fundamental to a witch, especially thinking about all the problems that Prue had As for Paige, being fickle is part of her temper: during the different seasons we found that she loved to paint, she loved to sing, she was fascinated by the teaching but all the paper and the administrative work bored her, also in her job as assistant social worker she had difficulties coping with work schedules Only being a witch is the task that she is able to love with constancy perhaps the photographer's work, as a freelancer, was suitable for her as it was for Prue
