Essential Episodes for Each Season

After a recent discussion about Season 2 and its most essential episodes, West and I talked about expanding this discussion to all of the show’s seasons, as he had once seen a thread about the Top 12-15 episodes of each season on another forum and thought it would be a good thread idea for here too. Now, these episodes don’t necessarily have to be your favorite ones but ones that are important to the season’s arcs/plots.
 
So what d’you think?

I'm going to kick things off with Seasons 1-4, doing 15 episodes each:


Season 1

Good choice. 

While some of the episodes seemed like filler, they had vital information in them.

Thanks. I know, you'r right. It's difficult because some episodes are fairly run-of-the-mill but if you missed them out the season would feel too disjointed. For example, I could've cut 'The Devil's Music' but if I did, you would wonder when Piper opened her club and how it suddenly became so successful. Inevitably when you're cutting off episodes, you will have to just imagine certain things have happened off-screen, such as when Dan asks Piper to move in with him in 'Ms Hellfire' although, in this viewing order, they would appear to have only started dating in the previous episode, 'P3 H2O'. I just pretend there's a couple of months gap between them. This way reminds me of the structure of most UK tv series, in which they only get 6-8 episodes per season.

Another example would be Secrets And Guys. 

While most of it is filler, this episode also has the return of Leo and the Big Reveal that he's a white lighter.

I love it but, considering Piper and Leo don't even move out in the end, it is not essential in my opinion. And I find the B plot with Shadow a bit underwhelming.

Exactly, I almost canned SAG until I realised this. You could still leave it out and have Leo's Big Reveal be in "Love Hurts" but it would be a bit of a stretch to believe that he told Phoebe he was a WL off-screen.

I cant argue with your choices, only Pre Witched, but again its not truly needed. Also Magic Hour and Once Upon a Time have some story in regards to Cole and Piper/Leo. Nothing else your missing that I can think of.

Cheers West! I'm not a huge fan of MH or OUAT so I reasoned if you skip them and head straight to 'All Halliwells' Eve' it looks as if Piper and Leo just got engaged at the end of 'the Honeymoon's Over' and that the Elders are keeping a close eye on them, without Leo haven been "Taken" at all. I love Pre-Witched' as well but I can't see another episode I could sacrifice it for.

If you're like me and really can't stand 'Oh My Goddess' even though it has a lot of important plot - you could watch 'Cat House' last as it foreshadows Piper and Leo's future marriage problems. So, when Season 6 opens to 'Valhalley...' the mystery sort of gradually unfolds as to why they split up.

Me either, I'm not a big fan of those. I can see why you gave them the skip them even if they do play a part in the story, but it does flow nicely this way.
