Now that our charmed cafe has underwent a makeover it appears.
I am *hoping* we could generate discussions here on the series. Now I thought about an episode of the week ongoing discussion - where we go through the series.
So lets just start this first one off as a test - and see how we go dears.
Using my criteria from the All Hell Breaks Loose thread. I decided to make adjustments.
Something Wicca This Way Comes Discussion number 1
How do you rate the plot, the writing and directing, the dialogue, the performances?
Things you liked most and least about this episode?
Favorite/least favorite scenes and lines?
And of course, anything else worth mentioning.

Do you guys like this as an ongoing template for discussions.

How do you rate the plot, the writing and directing, the dialogue, the performances?
Plot - Great set up for the series and an overall good story. I have nothing negative to say.
Writing - Connie really had a great script. My only issue was Serena being too mysterious on who she was and her connection to the Halliwells or if Jeremy was a former love interest of hers.
Directing - I liked the dark feel for a setup. Interesting those first four seasons all started at night and the later four were at day.
The Performances - All the actors were awesome.
Things you liked most and least about this episode?
Most - Prue and Phoebe bonding and the first vanquish. Least - Hated Roger.
Favorite/least favorite scenes and lines?
Scenes - 1. Reunion between the sisters when Phoebe returns home. 2. Prue using her powers accidentally on Roger. 3. The first vanquish 4. Going up the steps and Prue closing the door.
Least - 1. Anything Roger. lol
Lines
- I'll look at the scripts online for that later.
And of course, anything else worth mentioning.
Nothing atm.
What overall grade do you give out of the episode out of 10?
10/10

It was cool to introduce and how accidently they used their powers for the first time, especially when it comes to Prue and her Dad. Hehe, poor drugs in the pharmacy. And naturally the first vanquish with Piper's boyfriend. That she dated again and became a wife, mother and so on is (almost) a wonder. lol

There are small errors in the director, as Piper's umbrella, inaccuracies, as the reference to Melinda burned at the stake, to want to be punctilious I am not a choosy person and this is one of my favorite episode The three sisters0 characters are well defined, although very standardised, the dialogues are brilliant, the story flows well The first time I watched it, I adored Phoebe, she was still an insecure teenager as I was in spite of her age, I would have liked, like her, find out I'ld be special, in my eyes, the Book of Shadows was the equivalent of a magic wand touch A normal and full of problems girl turns out to be special, it's the theme of many fairy tales Charmed was a fairy tale of our day, mixed with everyday life and its problems, the work you do not like, the boyfriend who betrays you,the family that is not able to understand you Watching again, it's like seeing old photos: how Piper was insecure and fearful, how Prue was cold and nervous, how Phoebe was full of hope They were real from the start

That was more a mistake of the prop department. You see, the footage of Piper arriving home at the Manor came from the unaired pilot. The footage of her inside, hanging up the umbrella, was one of the scenes they had to re-shoot, after Alyssa Milano and Ted King joined the show. The prop department should have made sure that the two umbrellas matched up, but it was just a small thing, it's easy to see how it could have been overlooked.
Quite a few of the scenes that involved just Prue and Piper came from the unaired pilot (no doubt this was done to save money). The scene where Piper interviews and gets the job at the restaurant, for example, comes from the unaired pilot, which explains why said restaurant looks nothing like Quake (the pilot was shot a few months before the series proper started shooting).
All the scenes with Phoebe and Andy were re-shoots, because Alyssa Milano and Ted King replaced Lori Rom and what's-his-name.

18 years. That's crazy.
I really like this episode. It's dark, but in a fun way. I like how it characterizes all the sisters right away. They're all interesting to me. I love watching them discover their powers and how insane it seems to them at the time. It's a great setup for the show and also sets up a lot of material to be gone over in the future: their father, Phoebe's irresponsibility, Prue and Phoebe's relationship, and so much else. I think it's great.

18 years! That's insane, Happy Birthday, Charmed.
I loved SWTWC. In fact, I still think it stands as one of the best TV pilots out there. Usually news series start off a bit shaky and pick up the pace but Charmed started out really strong.
My only quibbles about the episode is the backstory between Roger, Prue and Phoebe. It was never made very clear what happened between the 3 of them and if it had, I could've understood Prue's resentment towards Phoebe more.
Also, Jeremy could've been played by a more scary actor but it WAS only the first season.

After 18 years many series appear timeworn Charmed no It would be enough to give the sisters the iPhone and they could be our current neighbors

It's still one of the best premiere I have ever seen
To celebrate them I rewatched and I loved even more Phoebe realizing all her fears of not being accepted while she is pretending to be jaunty and cheery

My favorite scene'll be always the last, Prue's smile while she is closing the door I remember I got excited, they were ready for future adventure!

10/10 one of my favourite episodes still. Portrays the sisters really well also their relationship as sisters. Loved watching their relationship grow stronger as the season went on.

Great episode. It had a gothic, mysterious atmosphere that was different from later episodes.

So, I think it's a 6/10. I don't think it's the greatest season premiere/pilot. But, it was intriguing enough to stick it out, and I feel like the season felt its way in S1b.
