Merlin is a BBC tv show that aired from 2008-2012. It's a re-telling of the Arthurian legends, but with a twist: instead of being an old man, Merlin is a young man, just learning how to control his powers, and trying to help restore magic to Camelot (Uther has banned all magic). Also big difference: Arthur is raised as future king. This is one of my favorite shows, in the first four seasons there's a good mixture of light and dark, and Merlin is a genuinely likeable character. Anyone here seen it?

I did not watch ALL of it. Maybe a little into S3. But S1 was soooooooooooooooooooooooo good. Merlin. Arthur. Morgana. Giles Uther was #$%^&$%^ but also ASH is love. So it was such a conflict.
I knew stories about Arthur and the Knights, but this was a new, interesting take. And Morgana ♥. And Arthur and Merlin had a fantastic relationship. Though, it annoyed me about Arthur not finding out. (did he ever?)

And he reacted very badly to it, too, something that really annoyed me. For years, Merlin had been acting a little weird, there were certain things that didn't add up, and even there were times where it seemed Arthur knew more than he was letting on.

BOOO! That sucks. Uther did a number on Arthur and Morgana in the way of magic. It's a damn shame.

I watched some episodes but not all. I seem to like some BBC shows but I couldn't find the charm here.

Starting with S2, my love started to wane. Mostly for Morgana and Morgana/Arthur.
And I've always been a Guinevere/Lancelot fan, including in Merlin. So when they forced G/A, it ticked me off because S1 did not set it up. And they knew from the beginning that many myths have Arthur and Morgana as half siblings. So, they should have thought about that before all of S1 happened. And Guinevere/Arthur was political. Not a good job setting things up there. So, that's a huge reason when I barely made it through S2, and then what they were doing with Morgana was why I never finished S3.

I loved the show. But there are things that I wish they did a little better. As said above I know the legends of Merlin and one of my fav movies is "First Knight' However...
* I feel that the relationship between Guin and Lancelot was very rushed he being a MAJOR part of the story only to have him in a handful of episodes before he died.
* I think everyone was double-sided when it came to magic they using/seeking it when it 'worked' in their favor to quickly turn around when/if something went wrong. Uther being the worst. We all having been told that a life would cost a life and he having to have known this and then seeking revenge when his wife died when really it was his fault. A fact that never seemed to cross his mind though everyone he hunted all but pointed it out serval times.
* I also find it interesting that he wanted a son so badly and yet he always seemed rather cold to Arthur and that though he hid the fact that Morgana was his daughter he seemed far more concerned about her than anyone else.
* The fact that Merlin had to hide who he was right up to the end was in my mind a change as in most others I have seen everyone knew he was magical. But it DID get to me that through everything they had been through. all the times Merlin save Arthur, Arthur so easily turned. Yes, it would have come as a shock but does friendship/history mean nothing?
There are of course changes from the myth to the show but, then again there always are. The truth of Mordred being one of them.
