I like that a thread for the DC-TV shows was made - now please forgive me dears - but I do not like some of the other DC shows, and prefer a separate thread just for Supergirl to talk in. Because I dont care much for Arrow - Its not as good as Smallville's Green Arrow for me dears - This one is too dark and depressing for this girl.


Could we use that other thread for those who love all the shows and want to discuss the crossovers in depth and have separate threads for those who just love certain shows?

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is set to release the entire 20-episode inaugural season of "Supergirl" on Blu-ray and DVD this summer, with plenty of special features included on the 4-disc sets.

• UNCONFIRMED: Commentaries for the Pilot and World's Finest were available on the CBS site, but hasn't been revealed as extras on the set. The Pilot commentary was since taken down. So It remains to be seen if they will be among the extras when the first season hits stores in August.

I look forward to picking my copy dears. I hope those commentaries make the set.

Sounds like they will have some good extras. I love it when DVD sets include stuff from Comic-Con. I'm looking foward to next season and will definitely be getting this as soon as I can.

Definitely so, fingers crossed the commentaries are intact. 

I feel those Comic-Con ones - *truly* are worth it, especially international fans and anyone who cant attend them, it makes you feel like you dont miss out. 

This will be a purchase in my family for sure. I know my granddaughter and daughter are so keen to watch this again. I will even get to catch up on the ones I missed. 

I am *curious* what deleted scenes we are treated with. Hopefully some interesting ones. 

By the way we may as well trade our likes on Supergirl.

I think Supergirl has found a good home on the CW.

Right now they're not sure if Calista Flockhart will return, because she wanted to stay in Los Angeles.  They're still negotiating with her.  Well, if they can't get her back full time, hopefully they can arrange for her to be a recurring character (her hubby, Harrison Ford, has a private jet, and he can fly her up to Vancouver when she's needed).

I liked how they cast Dean Cain (who played Superman in Lois & Clark) and Helen Slater (who played Supergirl in the 1984 movie of the same name) as Kara's human adoptive  parents, Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers.  Her human adoptive sister, Alexandra (played by Chyler Leigh) is original to this show, she didn't exist in the comics.

Speaking of the 1984 movie, I had some thoughts on it as well, that I will re-post here:

Decades before the successful CBS (now CW) TV series, Supergirl took to the big screen.

In 1984, the Salkland's, who had done the Superman movies, starring Christopher Reeve, decided to branch out. They, by then, had done three movies with Kal-El, now it was time to bring his cousin, Kara, to the big screen. It was hoped, of course, that this would lead to a series of Supergirl movies.

Of course, that didn't happen. When Supergirl hit theatres in 1984, the critics showed no mercy, and the movie tanked at the box office (rumour has it that the failure of this movie was one of the key factors in DC decided to kill Supergirl off in their Crisis On Infinite Earths maxi-series the following year).

It would be thirty-one years before Supergirl would be a lead character in a live action production again, the aforementioned CBS/CW series (although she did have supporting roles in various animated series and, of course, Smallville).

What went wrong?

I think the problem with the movie was the script. The story was all over the place and didn't make sense in some places (just where was Argo City supposed to be, for example). And the villain, played by Faye Dunaway, was WAY over the top. You just couldn't take her seriously, IMO.

However, Helen Slater made a good Supergirl (and she now has a recurring role as Eliza Danvers, the human foster mother to the current Supergirl, played by Melissa Benoist). One has to wonder how she would have fared had this series continued.

Interesting fact, Jimmy Olsen and Lucy Lane (Lois's sister) played key supporting roles in this movie. Both these characters are supporting characters in the current TV series.

The special F/X were pretty good for a 1984 movie. The escape from the Phantom Zone sequence comes to mind here.

So, yes, while this movie wasn't a hit, I did like some of it. Shame that Supergirl would have to wait three decades before getting another shot at being the lead character in live action production (while Superman and Batman kept getting more movies, despite diminishing returns).

First Superman - Now get ready for Lex Luthor’s sister Lena, Maggie Sawyer, Snapper Carr and The Doctor.

National City is experiencing a major population spike in the wake of Supergirl‘s move from CBS to The CW. In addition to the Man of Steel’s imminent arrival, TVLine has learned that Greg Berlanti & Co. are adding five major new characters in Season 2 — including the series-regular role of Lex Luthor’s kid sister.

Lena Luthor, who will be in the 25-35 year old range, arrives in town to get out from under the shadow of her infamous brother. She’s described as sexy and smart and determined to get what she wants. But what does she want? That remains unclear.

The other new series regular goes by the name Nick Farrow. He’s a “brash leading man” who butts heads with Kara at CatCo. The son of a famous reporter, Nick is “looking to make a name for himself in the news world but the question of whether he can leave behind his former selfish and hedonistic ways will constantly arise. In hanging out with Kara, the hero in Nick might finally come out.” Hmm….


The remaining three roles are of the recurring variety, and include The Doctor, the diabolical female leader of Project Cadmus who uses her surgical skills to implant prisoners with alien technology (and who sounds a lot like Sterling Roquette); Snapper Carr, a veteran journalist appointed by Cat to remake the news division by going old school (not to be confused with the Justice League sidekick); and the comics-inspired Maggie, an out and proud detective for the newly formed Science Police, which deals specifically with metahuman and alien threats.

I wonder who'll play Superman, now that we'll finally get to see him.

Now thinking more about it - as much as I love Tom Welling - It should be somebody completely new. *If* they are hopeful in the distant future in wanting a brand new Superman show - *then* we should have someone new.

Now lets consider the possibilities - It has to be an actor in the 33-40 year age group. Clark/Superman *should* be around 34-37 years old. I'm not sure how old Cat Grant is suppose to be, but Calista is 51 - so Lois *must* be at least a decade younger than Cat is, so Cat is at most mid 40's?

I have heard that the name Matt Bomer was thrown around. My daughter and granddaughter pointed out he was in the running for Superman a decade ago but was not selected because he was gay or something. Not sure the truth in that dears.

Well apparently Tom won't be playing Superman because he'll be starring in a new CBS show called Section 13 that he will be an executive producer of which leaves him out then.

Former Smallville star Tom Welling is plotting a return to television with a starring role in Section 13, a drama series project at CBS. The drama, now in development, hails from Smallville producer Warner Bros. TV and studio-based Tom Welling Productions.

Written by Bones alumna Carla Kettner, Section 13 centers on a CIA black ops officer-turned-private contractor (Welling) who, after a personal tragedy, joins a covert organization devoted to carrying out the most difficult and dangerous high-stakes assignments. Welling and Kettner executive produce.

In addition to serving as co-executive producer and executive producer on Smallville for the long-running series’ final two seasons, Welling through his production company, which has been under a pod deal at WBTV, has developed and sold multiple projects. One of them, cheerleader drama Hellcats, went to series at the CW with Welling executive producing.

Since his star-making stint as Clark Kent/Superman on Smallville, which ended its 10-season run in 2011, Welling had been focused on features as an actor, co-starring in Parkland and Draft Day. He will next be seen in The Choice.

Kettner spent the last five years on the Fox dramedy Bones, rising to an executive producer. She most recently served as co-executive producer on the CBS summer drama series Zoo.

Welling, who directed 8 episodes of Smallville, and Kettner, are repped by WME Entertainment.

I wonder if they might go with an unknown person to play Clark/Man Of Steel but as you said Granny considering what the man's age would be then not probably.

Speaking of Matt Bomer he played Superman in an animation film called 'Superman Unbound' actually which had Supergirl in it coincidentally though I can see where you and your daughter/grandaughter are coming from thinking of him playing Superman live seeing how he'd have the look for it with glasses on like in the picture below obviously.

I remember Matt Bomer from the first season of Tru Calling.  He was the love interest of Tru (Eliza Dushku).

The CW has commission a show called "Riverdale" for this fall.  It's based on Archie comics.

I wonder if this means that the CW is trying bring sitcoms back to their network (they were abandoned under Dawn Ostroff).

Welp. Guess I'll be watching S1 when this is on Netflix. Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) has just been announced as Superman. I'll be here for him. (and hopefully the show itself hooks me before S2 begins).

I just looked up Tyler Hoechlin for a picture of him.  Yeah, he could pull off a decent Superman, he looks the part.

It will be nice to see Kal-El fully onscreen as a real character.

I was thinking a older mid 30s actor would be cast. Tyler is around my age. I guess they are going with Clark ages slower but Tyler can pull off playing older.

I still think they went new actor incase this leads to a superman spinoff. The fan in me would be thrilled but it may not be possible.
