How much money did the sisters earn?

Something which I've always been curious about. How much did they earn? How were they able to afford their lifestyle?

I'm pretty sure Prue made the most money and had a hell lot saved up. Her finances could easily withstand an unemployed Phoebe always charging things to her credit card. She was able to acquire a second loan on the house so Piper could buy her club. Bank wouldn't have done that if Prue didn't have a good credit history. She even switched her job to pursue a career in photography, which is risky with two loans on the house and Piper's club very new and Phoebe being jobless.

Moving on to Paige who became unemployed in season 5 just to be a full-time witch then tried those crazy temp jobs, then Magic school before she finally settled on being a whitelighter. Was the money really enough to pay her own bills like gas and expensive clothes? Did Magic School pay her too? Did she inherit a large amount of money from her adopted parents? Does she secretly borrow/steal from her celebrity advice columist of a sister? :-p

I don't know about Paige but Piper certainly does after season 4. Almost every season, there's an episode dedicated to how Piper's club is failing. On more than one occassion, Piper forced Phoebe's unwilling butt out of the house to go work because they needed her income. Two kids, an unemployed husband who's dead, yet still needs to eat massive amounts of food because it burns calories, an unemployed Paige, a frequently failing club....I'd say Piper definitely needed the financial help.

Though how did she manage to get by when Phoebe moved out and into a condo? An awkward phone call to Phoebe asking for money? o.0

It's strange how Chris claimed he borrowed money from Paige in the future rather than Phoebe or Piper. Unless Paige married Richard who died and she inherited his massive fortune, then it would make sense. Otherwise the only thing she could afford to lend him with Magic School income would be advice.

Well I think Prue and Phoebe definitely would have earned the most. Prue was an antiques dealer, I imagine that pays a lot, then like you said she switched jobs and seemed to be doing well at that so I'd say she had a lot of money.
Piper probably had a fair bit as well, the club seemed to be doing well most of the time, they got big name bands in sometimes so that would have bought in the cash.
Phoebe we all know of course, the "amazing", "incredible", "insightful", "local celebrity" would have probably bought in a lot not just from the paper but endorsements, her writing, her photo shoots and interviews etc.
Paige was probably the poorest, since she quit her job and did all those silly temp gigs only to become a full time whitelighter anyway, Henry's job must pay well!

Prue and Phoebe must earn quite abit of money. Who else can pay for all the manor damages due to demon attacks. Although Leo most likely repaired them, now that i think about it. But still they need to buy the replacements for Leo to fix and or replace.

Piper's club was a success in the early seasons, but not in the later seasons.

Paige quitting her job. Dont get me started on that, but she lived off her sisters because she barely had a real job full-time job in later seasons.

This was one of the most unrealistic things about Charmed.  There is NO way they could have afforded that house.  San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in the world, that they seemingly owned free and clear.  Yeah, maybe they mortgage was taken care of long ago, but there are property taxes, utilities, and other things that the sisters, with their incomes, could never have afforded.

And don't get me started on the endless supply of clothes that all three of them kept buying.

Another thing I could never believe.  Phoebe has this job just handed to her.  No resume, no qualifications, nothing.  Okay...

Yet in a very short time, she's being treated like an A-List Hollywood celebrity.  No way, not buying it.  She's only an advice columnist, one of millions.  What the hell made her so darn special (if you ask me, they're all a bunch of charlatans, they clearly get their answers out of books they no doubt have handy, and change the wording enough to avoid legal action from the author or the estates of the authors of said books).

It is interesting to note that the "Phoebe the A-List celebrity" didn't start until Season Five, when Alyssa became a Producer.   Draw your own conclusions.

Are you kidding?
I was in SanFra twice, and it was cheaper than New York or Boston or Denver
And New York or Boston or Denver are more affordable than any Swiss cities, but also any European capital except Warsaw, Belgrade and Athens
I believe that Prue had a good salary, Piper, as all those who work in entertainment, sometime good and sometime bad periods, Phoebe a decent salary, seeing that the work as columnist makes popular -popular, not famous - but it's not paid much
Paige also had to have a decent job and some savings, after three years of odd jobs she'ld have undermine her savings

I couldn't stand when everyone was so dependent on Phoebe 's income in Season 5. I mean I know that Piper was at home with the baby and by that time P3 seen better days. But Paige's behind should've never quit her job as a social worker, to begin with. It smelled of the creative in control wanting Paige to just stay at home due to budgetary reasons behind the scenes in my opinion.

Maybe when Prue died, Piper and Phoebe inherited her money, which helped for a while on things like property taxes and bills. But that money would not have lasted for very long.

One of the many things that I liked about season 1 was how Prue was often at Bucklands. It made it seem realistic that she had a full-time job and would be kept busy by it. And Piper was often at Quake, running around from one thing to another. Even with Phoebe not working at that time, it seemed realistic that they were making enough money to afford things.

I agree that S1-2 was much more realistic because the sisters were forced to navigate their "Real Lives" as well as their Charmed lives. As soon as Prue quit Bucklands and Piper quit Quake, the Halliwells became increasingly more insular and removed from the real world. I suppose it was natural for them to choose more flexible careers, but I wish the writers had addressed this struggle more, especially the money issue. There's no way Prue would become such a hot-shot photographer that quickly with NO previous experience. I agree that she must've had a lot of savings from working in the museum and Bucklands. P3 was doing well in S2-3 so that would've helped her massively. I think P3 probably did "all right" in all the seasons, but Piper was just overly worrisome/pessimistic about it not 'raking in the dough'. Although Paige did mention having savings in 'Lucky Charmed', I don't know how she managed to make them last from S5 up until the point she met Henry.

I doubt Penny or Patty had any money to leave the sisters, but it's likely that they didn't have a mortgage as the Manor had been in the family for several decades.

Sometimes I think the sisters should've just been reimbursed for their demon-fighting. It was kind of ridiculous that the Elders expected them, and the Whitelighters, to not even so much as magically repair a coffee table and not fall into poverty. Maybe they would've complained less if they could've use magic to repair damaged goods/clothes.
