And there were no such thing as whitelighters and Elders? In my spin on this, I'd have Leo be born around the same time as the sisters, just as alive as they are, and maybe his powers would have to do with things like having a knack for creating healing potions and the like.
What's your take? Would you rather this type of scenario be true, or did you like Leo as a whitelighter?

First, welcome to the Cafe!
I would MUCH prefer something like that for *all* whitelighters, especially because it means there would be no such thing as witchlighters and no such thing as Piper and Leo's relationship being forbidden just like Sam and Patty's wouldn't - meaning no such thing as Paige! Charmed would've had to end when it should've - when Shax *said* "The End"!
That might have ruined beautiful episodes like "Love Hurts" and "P3 H20" but would've fixed so many of Charmed's problems.

Thanks for the welcome!
I didn't mind Paige. I actually liked her in the fourth season quite a bit. But I didn't like how by the end of the show seemed just as much about whitelighters and Elders as it did witches. If Leo were gifted with things like healing potions, the sisters could still be healed like in the show, but he wouldn't be able to orb them everywhere, which made things too easy.
The show sustained itself quite well before a lot of fairytale elements were introduced, and I feel like whitelighters and the whole hybrid witch-whitelighter thing led to fairytale elements being introduced more often and in more obvious ways. The more I think of it, it seems like the whitelighters and Elders led to a lot of the things that most fans didn't like as much about the show.

I like how maybe each coven/group of witches would have sort of a Witch Doctor or witch heale who's gifts were specialized in healing. Like Phoebe's powers were more psychic and Prue's were offensive and Piper's, defensive - I think that could have been a cool mix! I did like the idea of Gypsies being a sister or niche of witches too and would have liked it if Phoebe developed a relationship with one. Cool thread idea!

Interesting to note that most of this happened after Kern seized power. Just saying

Since I still cannot not stand the existence of whitelighters on this show, I'm all for Leo being a witch, instead.

Very interesting question. It would be much better for the show long term if we didn't have Elders of Whitelighters. Those two elements may have ruined the show the most longterm. The show just would fix so many things with that one change.
Maybe all we'd really need is healing potions, but they don't heal serious wounds.
