The sisters and Patty had a Whitelighter, do we know if Grams had one? Or was she strong enough to live without one?

Very good question dear.
Let's remember that they kept changing the rules. Leo was suppose to have been assigned to the sisters in season 1 - then in season 5 they say dears he was watching them as a baby. Whitelighters were originally only suppose to be used in a Witches first year - that all changed in season 2 when they became important and then suddenly Patty had one. The only reason I felt they gave Patty a whitelighter was just to make the comparisons between Piper/Leo and Patty/Sam.
Now from that - I believe it *is possible* dears Sam was suppose to be the Halliwell's whitelighter in general. Perhaps had he not had his wings clipped and the drama with Patty and the affair went down - he would have guided the Charmed Ones.

I like to think that one of her husbands was her whitelighter, they fell in love and it didn't work out, which is why she was so against Patty and Sam. She didn't want her daughter to suffer the same wrath.

I can imagine the Elders pulling their hair out over all the women in this family that keep on falling in love with their whitelighters.

Can't imagine a Grams's whitelighter, unless she was Nathalie, the only whitelighter, IMO, able to bear Penny

I imagine she had the same one as her mother as a child/teenager but when she became a flower child as an adult she probably turned her back on the Elders or 'the Man' and decided against conforming to the witchcraft norm of having a WL. By the time she became 'Ball Buster' Grams she probably wouldn't want to work with a WL (as she always knew best) so didn't bother asking for/accepting a new one.

I can imagine the Elders pulling their hair out over all the women in this family that keep on falling in love with their whitelighters. Except if that was the case, why did they keep giving the Halliwells (or Johnson in Grams' case) a male whitelighter? If after Grams got in trouble, if the Elders were smart (which they've never been proven to be...) Sam never should've been given to Patty as her whitelighter (which means no Paige) and perhaps Natalie rather than Leo would've been given to the Charmed Ones rather than Leo. It's always why I believe that Leo said the sisters were never supposed to find out that he was their whitelighter when so many other witches *did* know who their whitelighter was, and why I'll never understand why they didn't take him away for good once they did know who he was and give them Natalie. Think of what a totally different series *that* could've been - which is also the real-life reason why they didn't.

You're definitely right about that! You can tell my brain is all messed up thanks to a show at our work next weekend that's keeping me there much too early and much too late! Great overtime pay - I can now afford to buy Christmas gifts - but *oh* does it take a lot out of me! No doubt about it, this old grey mare just ain't what she useta be!

It'ld have been better if the sisters had discovered long after Leo's real role in their life, he was more interesting as clumsy handyman than as whitelighter But in Charmed everything was always in a rush It's September, Es!!!!

It'ld have been better if the sisters had discovered long after Leo's real role in their life, he was more interesting as clumsy handyman than as whitelighter But in Charmed everything was always in a rush Too, too, true! But remember - Brian Krause was only supposed to be part of Season One and near the end of that is when they found out. Now if *we* the viewers hadn't found out until 'Love Hurts'.... Yeah, that could've made it more fun. Yes, it is, but I'm on a tight budget... And every year, the money I make from this show is put in my savings account until December when I go Christmas shopping. So I can shop and not blow my budget and end up having to pay a ton of interest next year as I pay off my Christmas shopping. I use my credit card all the time (easier to keep track) but haven't paid a cent in interest in 20 years, all because I budget (Bills, Necessities, Extras and Special) and I stick to it, so when I get my credit card bill, I immediately pay the whole thing off. We won't have another one of these shows (and my chance at overtime) until March - that money pays for my trips and other gifts throughout the year - well, not my latest trip to New Mexico - that came from the money I got from my dad's estate - also budgeted that way. The rest of my money from him will be for emergencies, not Christmas. Of course that's a lot easier when you're single and get to spend your money only on you and not a family. One of many reasons this old grey mare is happy to just be auntie and great-auntie and not mommy!
