In season 3, did it seem like Prue took a lot of risks with her sisters' lives? She killed a possessed Piper in order to de-possess her, she offered up her soul and her sisters souls without a second thought to a demon in order to save her ex-boyfriend from becoming a full demon. Later in the time loop with the Western town, Bo and Phoebe were psychically connected and Bo was being tortured and about to be killed and so was Phoebe, but Prue stood back and let the townspeople save Bo.
There was also Prue's lack of concern with locking the doors or installing a security system in the Manor.
Sure these incidents worked out fine with happy endings, but they could've easily gone horribly wrong. Prue even let Phoebe go alone to save Cole in the Underworld of all places.
Prue is always risking her life, but why this risky attitude towards her sisters lives as well all of a sudden?

My theory is that this is part of Prue's character development. She started off being closed off and serious, and gradually started to relax during season 2 with becoming a photographer. Season 3 is her time of being the most reckless, and I think that had she lived, season 4 would have been her settling down a little bit and once again finding that happy medium between who she was able to be in most of season 2. I see this as the journey she had to take to really figure out who she was.
She had been like a mother since she was a kid, and then got a chance to time travel and see ghosts and fight evil. The two are opposites. The way she acted in season 3 was her trying to figure out where on the Prue spectrum she belonged.

Prue had been in the future, she had seen herself and her sisters alive I think that vision has increased her recklessness, her thirst for adventure After so many years as sensible and responsible big sister, she'ld finally follow her aptitude

Morality Bites is very important because it affects even on a subconscious level the sisters
Prue knows that she'll emerge in her work, Piper that she'll have a daughter with Leo Although Prue changes job, and Piper starts an affair with Dan, Prue knows that she'll have sucess, Piper knows that she'll have Melinda
Even Phoebe's decision to finish school is an echo of the fear of becoming the desperate woman she saw in the future

I also had the impression that Prue was more risking in S3. Could be also that she had seen what the future could be like and wanted to change it. Maybe it was to save her sisters for all future threats and she wanted to be the one who would take the fall in the end.

I think Chrisaholic is on the right track. She remembers losing their mother and Andy. The fates be damned if she lost another sister. She would take on the whole underworld if it meant she could save her sisters from a similar fate.

To be fair to Prue, they were suppose to risk themselves for the greater good. S3 Prue seemed to be the only one not neglecting their Charmed duties.
EDIT: In response to not locking their front door, she did defend herself from the Abby intruder. OFC, that situation could've gone worse 'cause Abby temporarily blinded Prue, but Prue was still defending herself pretty well, despite being partially blind. I understand Prue's point, that they have magical powers and can ward off mortals fairly easily. Though, I admire Piper locking the front door, as frequently as she can LOL
