So I am just starting Supernatural and it seems pretty similar to Charmed except brothers instead of sisters and they don't have powers. It also seems more intense and gory. Can anyone else give me an idea of what to expect when watching the show.

I've easily watched and enjoyed seven seasons without any major issues. Will definitely watch the remaining ones too. While it's darker than Charmed, there's always humor too. And I don't know about season 8 and beyond, but for seven seasons, the show managed to impressively keep the brotherly and family focus rather than giving the guys a billion love interest or annoying never-ending forbidden romance or having kids because they saw it in a vision quest There's also the whole one brother going evil and time travel involved too. Done much better than Charmed. Although Charmed actually had a potential to do it a million times better but it screwed up. But even with the screw-up, insanely enough I still find myself re-watching Charmed more than Supernatural. Anyways, enjoy the show. I clearly remember season 1 and 2 having really great finales. Oh and of course season 5 had an awesome unforgettable finale.

Thanks, I started to read it but I saw a couple of spoilers so I wanted to avoid that. Of course if a show has been on this long I am going to know spoilers but I am trying to keep the mystery alive

I haven't gotten to the part about a brother turning evil but I know since I read an article comparing the shows and it was revealed.

It seems like Charmed focused on the sister's lives with various demons popping in where as Supernatural focuses on the demons with some emphasis on family. Of course a big difference is its brothers with no powers vs sisters with powers. Its interesting to see that the Winchester boys can just defeat demons even though they are mortals where as in Charmed if a human tried to stop a demon it was futile and they would just get in the way.

Fun piece of trivia is that some Charmed fans who are Supernatural ones to think Sam and Dean are actually Wyatt and Chris in a sense that they both have certain similarities between one another barring the fact two of them are not witches and that the Winchesters might've actually being created as a result of the failed Charmed Sons campaign where people tried to get Drew and Wes their own spin off series.
Whether people believe that is fan speculation of course but I never knew that till someone pointed it out to me.

Don't watch past season 5, after that its terrible and it'll just disappoint you with the massive drop in quality.

I've watched all ten seasons but I won't spoil here, because I noticed one thing at the end of each season. You will see it too, I'm sure. In general, it's a good show but I miss their Dad for sure.

Yeah I wonder if John will come back to in one way or form again.
I'd like to see adult John again although I know that won't happen of course obviously.

I just finished season 6 last night! It is quite gory and some parts are a little much for my weak stomach but I power through lol.
season 6 was my least favorite season thus far.
they also have a character named balthazar but he is an archangel.

Seasons 1-5 were simply great, after that it started getting too repetitive, but I continued watching nevertheless because of the cliffhanger season finales (Season 8 finale was amazing). I abandoned it after Season 9 though, so I pretty much have no idea what's happening right now. It definitely bears a resemblance to Charmed, maybe that's why I liked it so much in the first place, but to be honest, I thought it was a bit better written. I think that we can all agree that the writers screwed Charmed up in the last few seasons. Also, it was a pleasent surprise for me to see some actors from Charmed starring in Supernatural. For example Eric is now Castiel, one of the main characters in SPN and also my favorite one.
