Witch Wars - Phoebe's use of demonic powers

When phoebe took on the demonic powers from the athame, the only way to get the powers out of her at the end was to stab her. after Phoebe daring Paige to, Paige told Leo to get ready to heal and she stabbed phoebe, even though they didn't show us the stabbing. But how were they able to stab phoebe without vanquishing her? Wouldn't stabbing phoebe with the athame make her go poof"?. All the other demons that were stabbed with it to get their powers all went up in flames and were vanquished.

Did you also notice how happy phoebe was to get demonic powers. Once she got them the first thing she said was "Feels good to have power again". Meaning she missed the time she was the demonic Queen of the underworld. She took so much joy in killing all those demons in this episode like she did in season 4. Maybe the reason she ran away from Cole and kept saying she hated him so much in Season 5 was more because she knew she kind of loved being evil and was afraid giving into Cole could lure her back into evil again and she feared she may have not been be able to resist it.

[Cut to the Witch Wars Studio. Phoebe kicks Clea in the face and she is knocked backwards. She gets back up and creates an energy ball. Leo orbs in behind her and stabs her in the back with the power-sucking athame. She is vanquished.]
Phoebe: Now that's good television. Give me the athame.
Leo: Are you sure about this?
Phoebe: It's for Wyatt. (Leo gives Phoebe the athame and it glows and sparks with electricity. Phoebe glows for a second as the powers enter her body.) Feels good to have powers again.
Leo: Give 'em hell.
(Phoebe shimmers out.)

[Cut to the Manor. Attic. Paige and Chris are sitting on the couch. Leo orbs in.]
Leo: Where's Phoebe?
Chris: That's a good question.
(Phoebe shimmers in.)
Phoebe: God, that was great. I wanna kill somebody else. Who can I kill? Chris, find me another demon to kill.
Paige: Okay, we gotta get these powers outta her.
Phoebe: What? You're the one who wanted me to have a power, remember?
Paige: Yeah, not a demonic power.
Phoebe: Well, beggars can't be choosers. Oh, poor little powerless Phoebe. She can't even take care of herself.
Paige: Okay. I'm sorry. I admit it. I was, I was wrong.
Phoebe: What did you say? Would you mind repeating that, please?
Paige: I'm sorry. I was wrong. I clearly underestimated you. You are very powerful.
Phoebe: That's all I wanted to hear. Now who wants to stab me?
Paige: What?
Leo: It's the only way to get the powers out of her.
Phoebe: Come on. I dare ya. I double dare ya. I triple dare ya. I super duper dare...
Paige: Oh! (Paige grabs the athame off of Phoebe.) I'll stab her. Leo, be ready to heal.
(Paige gets ready to stab Phoebe and...)

[Scene: Magic School. Everyone's there. Paige is pouring champagne into glasses.]
Piper: You stabbed her?
Paige: Oh, you would have too.
Chris: She was pretty obnoxious.
Phoebe: Yeah, demonic powers on an empty stomach. Not such a good thing.

The fascination of the evil is one of Charmed recurring themes

Phoebe: That's exactly my point. I could go either way. Good or evil. Kinda freaky. I do have to tell you I am gonna miss that cool power though.


I agree, the fear of her dark side moved Phoebe away from Cole, once in a while, Phoebe was wise

I don't think she meant she was missing being queen of the underworld, if I remember rightly this episode came a couple after the one where her powers were taken away from her, that's what she meant, she missed her empathy, levitation etc. And it felt nice for her to be useful and have powers again even if it was just temporary.

Though I will agree with you on the poof thing, she was stabbed by a witch and had demonic powers in her, very strange. I can only fathom a guess and say that maybe since she is a Charmed One she was somehow protected from the exploding? Or maybe the fact that it wasn't a killing blow is what saved her? If Paige stabbed her in the arm for example, it would have been enough for the athame to take the power but wouldn't have killed her. And with Leo there to quickly heal her and recover any blood loss it makes sense she would be fine.

Yeah the Charmed Ones have survived energy ball blasts before and Piper didn't die when the Source fire balled her meaning they must have high resistance to such attacks perhaps and with the athame like Adzpower said it probably wasn't a kill blow but enough to take away the powers she had in her obviously.

In Witch War I liked the representation of the demonic world, that underworld tavern with TV and demonic reality show was fun
I liked that Phoebe has dealt with the theme of ill-treated children, remembering the terrible risks children can run, even if powerful as Wyatt
I liked the return of the most interesting theme of Charmed: the charm of power
Even the most anarchist of the Charmed Ones, the lonely girl who lived by her wits, is happy when she has demonic powers marked out by the absolute freedom of using them, the freedom of which future Wyatt talked
Total freedom 'ld be dangerous, it's one of the things Charmed pushed me to think about
