To me, each sister represents one of the four elements: Prue-fire, Piper-earth, Phoebe-water, and Paige-air. However their big three won't be consumed by one element, but rather they'll have a strong connection to one element, with the influence of another! : )
This is how I see it, and fittingly enough each sign will be used once:
Prue - Aries sun | Capricorn moon | Leo rising
Prue may not seem like an Aries sun at first, but upon further inspection it is quite evident. She is arguably the most courageous of the four sisters, and is highly protective. Prue is a natural leader; she takes initiative, and has a commanding, assertive and extremely decisive persona. Prue is competitive, and strives to be the best she can be, and this ambitious nature is further heighten by her Capricorn moon. Prue isn't afraid of a challenge, and does her best to tackle the situation head on (after rationalizing it). Her Capricorn moon made her rationalize her emotions and mood, but underneath it Prue can be quite fiery, dynamic and bold. She also possesses quite a few of the negative traits of Aries as well. Prue is hot-headed, stubborn, temperamental, bossy, and prideful. Prue's moon sign helps her to regulate some of the fiery aspects of her core personality. Capricorn does share a few traits with Aries; confident, ambitious and both are cardinal signs. However Prue lacks some of the fundamental Capricorn traits for it to be deemed her sun sign. As stated before, she rationalizes her emotions (the moon governs emotions, and the moon is in detriment when in Capricorn furthering the struggle) and seeks to be objective about how to reach her goal. The stability of her earth moon, coupled with her fiery sun sign makes Prue an ultimate powerhouse who is both courageous and logical. Lastly, Leo risings tend to be magnetic, commanding and alluring. Prue has an enticing aura about her, but also one that can be intimidating which is quite the Leo traits (Lions are the king/queen of the jungle, makes sense). Leo risings also have high ambition, a big heart, and a confident demeanor. Leos (like Aries) can be prideful...and we all know which deadly sin possessed Prue

Piper - Taurus sun | Cancer moon | Virgo rising
Piper is without a doubt a Taurus. She is patient, calm, loyal, level-headed and hardworking. Piper is dependable, peaceful and values stability over anything. Her more reserved nature is seen as an outlier amongst her more brazen sisters, and only an earth sun can possess such pragmatism, and kindness. She is also quite the romantic, and values a traditional romance (makes sense since Taurus is fixed sign ruled by Venus). She is also quite sensual, and has a fondness for fine cuisine. On the flip side, Piper can be stubborn, indulgent, and wry. She greatly values her comfort zone, and is the most resistant to change out of all four sisters. Her love of food and comfort even manifested itself as the sin of gluttony in season three, a vice heavily associated with Taurus. Lastly, while Piper is passive and reserved as most Taurus are, she can fight back when pushed the wrong way. After all, you mess with the bull, you get the horns. Piper's moon sign is Cancer. Extremely maternal, nurturing, loyal, and sympathetic. Hands down the most compassionate of the four, and the one most likely to retreat within her (crab) shell - especially in the beginning. Cancer is the archetype of a mother, and no one is quite as family-oriented as Piper. Family is her everything, and often puts the needs of them before herself. Unfortunately, Piper can be quite the pushover as her emotions and desire to help cloud her ability to stand firm. And finally, her rising is Virgo. Her outer persona is reserved, meticulous and diligent. She is particular about how she likes things done, she is a worry-wart, and has a tendency to be of service to others -whether is familial or business related (Virgo is the archetype of the servant/virgin). Highly considerate, Piper is reliable and genuine. However she can be a bit of control freak, critical (think back to Paige) and rather rigid, like most Virgo placements

Phoebe - Pisces sun | Libra moon | Sagittarius rising
While many class Phoebe as a Sagittarius sun, I would argue against that. She comes off as one; make sense since I believe it's her rising sign. Phoebe on the surface is open minded, tenacious, free-spirited and carefree. However that's about when it comes to her Sagittarius traits. Some may her flighty-ness may be akin to that of a Sagittarius, but her avoidance would be more linked to relationships as Sagittarius can be quite detached. Phoebe however, is someone who loves love, she even marries a cupid! Pisces and Libra placements tend to be romantic, and idealistic to the point of being irrational at time in love. Sagittarius hate being tied by people, Phoebe on the hand wants to be in a committed and loving relationship. As a Pisces sun, Phoebe is creative, empathetic, forgiving, and spiritual. Fundamentally, she is the one most dedicated to the Craft, and her powers of empathy reflect her compassionate and forgiving nature. Pisces are also labeled as mystical and intuitive, and Phoebe's main power is that of premonition. Pisces are also romantic, loyal and self-sacrificing, they have a tendency to lost themselves in others in an effort to appeal to their emotions. Pisces can also be naive, and impressionable. Phoebe is the most gullible of the sisters, and is the first to let her guard down as she tries to see the best in others. Her Libra traits are similar to the Pisces one listed. Furthering the connection of her pisces/libra combo, Phoebe is quite indecisive about what she wants in life, and has a hard time with maintaining balance despite her desire to. Just like the scales can tip in either direction, Phoebe could as well; having the potential to be pure and evil. Her Libra moon also makes her quite charming, persuasive, but also avoidant and lighthearted. Libra is ruled by Venus - Phoebe is quite stylish, vain and driven by aesthetic as she constantly changes her appearance in order to a) play around with the idea of beauty and b) it shows her indecisiveness on what look to maintain. Her sin is that of lust, which is more aligned with Scorpios, but Libras love love and affection, and that can easily be manipulated into lust. You'll notice that Phoebe's big three are all of different elements, and that is because she is quite complex. That's not to say that the other sisters have no depth, but their characteristic were far more consistent.

Paige - Gemini sun | Scorpio moon | Aquarius rising
Paige is quick witted, clever, and intelligent. She is driven to learn more, is naturally curious and can be seen as a jack of all trades and Geminis are known to be quite multifaceted. Her dual nature is even symbolized by her half witch/half white-lighter DNA. Paige is an inquisitive girl who is also trying to expand what she knows and often in a creative manner. However she can also be quite anxious (Mercury is a restless planet with its fast rotation so Mercurial signs tend to be characterized with a sense of anxiety and haste), indecisive and noncommittal at times. Her Scorpio moon adds a layer of emotions to her mostly mentally driven persona. Paige is confident, affectionate, observant and intuitive. Scorpio placements are also quite determined, and persistent and that reflects Paige journey to master magic. She can be intense, and has strong emotions. Scorpios are seen as magnetic, sexy and dark. Paige has that layer of mystery and sex appeal that entices many men around her. Scorpios can also be rather stubborn, jealous and pessimistic. Paige felt like she could never live up to Prue, showing her insecurities, envy and pessimism. Finally Paige is also a humanitarian; she strives to stand up for the underdog. Her sense of justice, altruism and persistence is seen with her Aquarius rising. Aquarius also value their independence and expression, and Paige was probably the most adamant of all the sisters to be independent, and individualistic. Paige is also quite creative (also reflected in her sun sign), and Aquarius are known to follow the beat of their own drum. Lastly the stubborn-ness, aloofness from the group at first, and eccentricity are also akin to the Aquarius archetype.
