First lets ignore all the behind the scene stuff.
In your opinion what would be the best exit for Cole? And if you are interested? How would you make Cole spinoff? You can discard canon stuff btw!
I have seen a lot of people saying Cole should have never returned for S5. And I do agree for one reason that is the writing of Cole's character. It's obvious that the writers/Kern had no idea what to do with Cole, and his character is all over the place. I have seen a lot of people saying S4 finale should have been the end of Cole. I also disagree with this. Because that storyline became messy (no mater what your stance is on Cole being possessed or not).
Imo opinion Cole should have been written out in S5 WT part 2. In this episode we see Cole getting ready to leave. Until the sisters pull him back (which happened a lot of times). Cole at this point is not evil, he is good and even understanding of others. He listened to Darryl (sucks we never got that story from S4 of them being cop buddies). In the end we have both Cole and Phoebe coming to understanding. With the line "always loving". And Cole should have left then! At that point he was on good terms with Phoebe, Darryl and even Paige on some lvl. It also leaves an opening for any future guest starring. No butchering of his character, and we have a nice send of.
Now for a spin off? Well I would like for it to explore Cole's 100+ years of past. Past evil deeds coming back to hunt him? Trying to find who he is right now? What should he do? Learn to control his new powers. Have him work a small law office trying to help people the best way he can (another thing S4 story that never worked due to writers/Kern). You can add Kyra and Drake to the mix. And create a well rounded characters of fighting evil in very interesting ways. Maybe even a possible romance between Cole and Kyra, since she would be able to understand him. A brother kind of connection with Drake. And they can use even theirs past to connect it with Cole's. So it want be Cole centric show.
What are your opinion on how Cole's exit should have been handled? And on a possible spinoff?

I don't know if a spin-off on Cole would work. Sure exploring the past with him is fun, but we would already know how his story would end. It might be better off having it as a web series instead or those webisodes.
I would of been nice if Cole had gotten a better exit, but ending his story in season 4 made sense. Maybe Cole really should of just been possessed by the Source the same way he took control of Shane.
That is all I have for now, I will come back with more after a good think through.

I once saw a suggestion for a spin-off for Cole where he'd remain an Avatar and travel through time and fix various problems through history. I thought that would make an interesting spin-off for him.
But for me, his best exit would be him begging the sisters to vanquish him in S4 so that the Source who was possessing him would also be vanquished, after which we'd never see or hear of him again.

Cole's story seemed to be more complete with S4's end, yet we (and the sisters) couldn't see what he's done in the Wasteland, with collecting all these powers. How big was the chance that he ever would come back? That he was suddenly obsessed with Phoebe made no sense at first but there's a very thin line between love and hate, especially in such close relationship and with Cole being Phoebe's great love.
As for a Spin-off, Cole could be a teacher at Magic School - just like Drake had been. He has more knowledge about the demons and could help here.

I think the way they ended it with cole in season 7 was a good exit for him. He was content with his situation and wanted to help others (or other demons) move on to a better place.
For a spin off I would love to see cole continue to try and help other demons that deserve it, like drake, that hadn't yet moved on, to redeem themselves and move on to a better place. Often by giving them a second chance on earth for a short period to try and now do good or experience true love. If they do that successfully then they can move on to a better place other than the wastelands or purgatory.
But cole will often encounter difficult cases where their demonic past lives would interfere. Past evil partners, acquaintances, crimes or even witches that previously wanted them dead, would interfere at times, when they discover the person is still alive.
Cole would often have to not only set the subject up with a good life or situation in which to redeem themselves, but also have to help them fight off evil interferences or stop past good people or witches from still trying to kill them. Without harming those good people.
He won't be known a cole in this spinoff but by another code name. Cole will only be used by those he ever meets that knew him in his other life. Though cole will always ask not to be called that whenever he crosses paths with someone he once knew. And always at all cost he tries to keep from crossing paths with the charmed ones or working with those who are close to them.

Well since I discarded the episodes from WT part 2. We wouldn't know how Cole's story would end. Well imo he was! To me it didn't. It needed a follow up. And the one we got in show was painful. Mine at least wraps up the character on a good note. Sure! That sounds like a nice idea.! But there would be no reason for him to do that. I would add a small follow up on that. Having Cole as spirit form move on while his father is waiting for him. Similar to Patty/Sam in P3 H2O! As I said. Cole's character in S5 was all over the place. He is good one episode, then evil in next. Sane in one, then crazy, then sane again. And the whole alternate reality never made sense anyway! Again I disagree that Cole should go like that. Maybe what I said to ES. Have him in spirit form move on with his father. With sisters seeing it. And accepting that Cole is in some kind of peace now! Nahhh! I can't see Cole as a teacher at all! lol I like Cole in S7! I just wish Cole's portrayal and exit in S5 wasn't that toxic! Thank you! I like your idea very much! That I would want to see. In my mind that's the Cole we should have got!

I think the best cole exit was one they didn't do which would have been letting him die with some damn dignity. What they did to his character was appalling. I mean how many times did he have to make the right choice only to have it taken away by some horrible outcome (taking hollow to save them to get stuck being the source which he really did not want), offer to strip his powers only to have Phoebe think he's lying and destroy the potion right in front of him saying he didn't deserve it, Finally getting vanquished then finally letting go of phoebe only to not be able to actually die, trying to use his powers for good, trying to not use them at all, wanting to die, can't get killed, ends up desperate and becomes an avatar. Oh and when he did get rid of his powers to the fear demon, they made him take them back because only he could handle them. Laughable. Everything with cole after the hollow is a slap in the face to what was a great character.
I get he wasn't perfect, but he made a lot of good choices. Poor guy could not cut a break no matter how much he tried. I felt like his character's story in that show sent such a bad message, that if you are ever bad or were ever bad, you will be doomed and there's no amount of good you can to do no longer be doomed. Right now Once Upon A Time has been playing around with that idea only they have made it so 'evil' characters can find redemption and even if they have failed time and time again, they eventually can find that redemption. Charmed should have learned that with Cole. He was truly my favorite character of the whole series.
I think a proper send off would be after he begins to become evil after taking the hollow and becoming the source, having him actually admit to phoebe what is happening and her getting caught up in it still trying to save him. Then realizing he cannot be saved because the source was overtaking him. Sisters try to vanquish him a few ways and can't. Maybe they end up with a final vanquish or a final power stripping, but in the end, I think it would have been cool if elders recognized that he had done a lot of good for a half demon and gave him some special kind of role, something they give to half demon/humans that become good. Not sure if it would be some kind of whitelighter variant, perhaps someone who has powers to vanquish demons while not being a demon or a witch? With maybe his demon side being replaced by light giving him some magic and some whitelighter type abilities but not making him a whitelighter.
Spin off might be based on that version of him - the good cole. Maybe it would be interesting if his powers emulated evil and his function was to be undercover gathering intelligence on the demons. Like he would not orb. he would use the demon version instead. Having him set up all the demons and work from the inside might be very interesting. His character was clever enough to do it too. Would have made for some great crossover episodes with charmed too

Despite me being on the team, where he just never came back, after being vanquished. But, you have mind open to this new idea that he leaves (like he was going to) in "A Witch's Tail Pt 2". We saw that with Angel for Buffy and stuff. OFC, that would make it too much like Buffy & Angel, right? LOL A long time ago, I did see somebody use the Angel Theme song for like a "Cole" show, and I can totally see that! Unfortunately, I can't find that video, anywhere, anymore. I think the original creator deleted it, and their account is no longer on YT. But, I remember seeing it. Anyway, I would hope the Cole spin-off to retain its dark roots that was of S1, S3 & S4. I would love to see how he met Drake, the Thorn Demons, how he's able to shimmer all sandy, that we saw in S7. I rather like this new idea that you gave me
