The Ultimate Charmed Cafe Survey

1. How old were you when you first saw Charmed?
I had just turned 46.
What was the first episode you saw?
 It was the last half of ‘Something Wicca This Way Comes’ the first time it was aired. I was volunteering at a cat shelter on Wednesdays and would only get to see the last half when I got home. It wasn’t until Charmed switched to Thursdays that I was able to see a full episode, so ‘Witch Trial’ would’ve been my first full episode.

2. Have you seen (a) every episode more than once, (b) every episode at least once, (c) most of the episodes, (d) fewer than half of the episodes?

I’ve seen some episodes many time, but others, like ‘Forever Crap’, I mean ‘Forever Piper’, I mean ‘Forever Charmed’, I’ve only seen once – the first time it was aired.

3. Do you still watch Charmed (on TV, online, video or DVD)?
 Yes, on DVDs.  I've happily been part of our 20th anniversary re-watch

I used to watch an episode a day from my S1-3 DVDs (the only ones I’ll ever own, although I have my favorite episodes from the other seasons on VHS which I had transferred to DVDs, including all of the marathons that TNT ran during the Super Bowls) but Real Life has gotten in the way, so I don’t do that any more. But every now and then I’ll sit down and have a marathon of various favorite episodes. My friend and I always watch ‘All Halliwell’s Eve’ on Halloween.

EDIT: Thanks to my friend, StoryGirl83, who had extras, I now also  have S4, S5, and S8 (for the bonus features - I don't plan on re-watching any of the S8 episodes).  I wish she had an extra copy of S7, and will never own a copy of my least-favorite season, S6 

4. How do you feel about the finale and the way the show ended? (a) loved it, (b) liked it, (c) had mixed feelings, (d) disliked it, (e) hated it?
(e) hated it
It was the perfect ending for “The Perils of Poor, Poor, Pitiful Piper” (aka S4-8), but not “Charmed” (aka S1-3), which has more to do with the changes in the characters of Piper, Phoebe, Leo and Cole than it does with Prue vs. Paige, who was my favorite sister in ‘The Perils of Poor, Poor, Pitiful Piper’.

5. Rank the seasons from most to least favorite.I’m afraid I can’t rank them any more than this.

Best written is Season Three. Although I don’t like all of the characters all of the time, they were written amazingly.

Worst-written is Season Six – it should’ve been *so* good but was written *so* badly with me not liking any of the main characters (Poor, Poor Pitiful Piper, PhoeME, Ditzy Paige, Wouldn't-stay-away Leo and Lying, Whining, Murdering Chris), the main reason I hate it so much.

Most of my fics were written with others. My favorite of the ones that I’ve written by myself is “My Sister’s Dying”, which is based on my own mom’s death.

Sometime during Season Five, when I first got a personal computer with a dialup connection.. I was browsing TheWB.com and they mentioned a site called “The Charmed Ones” (thecharmedones.com) and their message board, “The Charmed Café” (thecharmedcafe.ezboard.com). That eventually became thecharmedcafe.proboards.com, the site we enjoy now.

23. What's your favorite storyline on Charmed?
Leo and Piper’s storyline in Season One only.

What's your least-favorite storyline on Charmed?
The death of my favorite character Phoebs in Season Three and the birth of my least-favorite character, PhoeME.

24. How do you feel about the sisters' character progression over the series? Loved it? Hated it?
Loved it up to the middle of Season Three; hated it after that. Only Paige redeemed herself in Season Eight.

"Charmed” (aka S1-3) is still my all-time favorite TV show, and I love dreaming and writing and reading about what its alternate-universe spin-off “The Perils of Poor, Poor, Pitiful Piper” aka “PhoeME and Her Fantasy Men” aka “Two Witches Plus One Living Whitelighter Equals The Power of Three?" (aka S4-8) could’ve been shown.

I was 10 years old. My first episode was Secrets and Guys. I thought the show was similar to touched by an angel, because it had no demons, warlocks or monsters in this episode and had Prue saving an innocent from regular criminals and Leo revealed he was a whitelighter, which I so thought was just an angel like from touched by an angel. So I was very scared the next week, when I saw it was a scarier episode with the woogy.

My impression on the show really was different, going forward when I saw it had warlocks and eventually demons.

Hated Piper's, because she complains too much. She was my role model in season 1 and 2 as a little girl, and when she had a child, my love for her went away because she became exactly what I never wanted to be when i got married or had children. So hate her.



Paige became my favorite sister moving forward, and I liked her when she married Henry.

I liked Prue after she stopped being mean and horrible to her sisters in season 1.

I read about this new show in the paper, and saw ads. I watched Alyssa on Who's the Boss as a child, so that got me into the show. The more I watched, the more I was drawn to the story of Patty's death, as I lost my own mother when I was young, so this really hit home, and the best stories were the personal ones dealing with that.

I loved the sisters, and the relationship they had with each other. I also loved the chemistry they all had in the earlier seasons.

I still love the show, and am happy to be here at this board.

I haven't really written out, what I've thought about, in my own head.  My favorite parts, of what I thought about, has always been about whitelighter Andy & Brody still being around and helping the sisters out on their adventures.  I've always visualized the four of them, together but with hindsight, I wished Phoebe died, instead, and the new Charmed Ones would be Prue, Piper & Paige.  I enjoy the Paige character and would've liked to see her interact with Prue.  I've definitely fantasized the "what ifs" of all my ships, LOL

I've attempted to read a Charmed Comic, and I can't tell you, for the life of me, what the exact issue was, of said Comic.  I couldn't get into 'em.  Haven't read any Charmed novels, no.  I only know the original show, from front to back.

And finally the last question, what drew you to Charmed to begin with and why do you still love the show? If you don't still love the show, why do you come to the Cafe?
I was drawn to Charmed because it showcased female empowerment, and I still love the show, to this day.  I came to the Cafe to see if there were other like-minded folks, like me, but I've come to find, I'm always the "black sheep" regardless of which fandom I'm in LOL I tend to like and see, what others don't like nor see.  It can be frustrating at times, but I digress.  Charmed will always resonate with me, as a female empowerment show.  I do have two other sisters, but I'm not as close with them, as I'd like to be which is why (I guess) I don't mind the later seasons because that seems real (to me), IMO, but I digress.  I'll always love Charmed because I think it's a powerful show that inspires female empowerment.

This is a two part answer.  I was 14, when I was channel surfing on my TV and happened to stumble upon S5E12 "Centennial Charmed".  Particularly, the end of the episode, when they're standing around in Cole's Penthouse before walking into the elevator, and we hit the end credits.  When, I began to do my full watch of the series, I was 18 and started on S1E1 "Something Wicca This Way Comes".

I haven't really written out, what I've thought about, in my own head.  My favorite parts, of what I thought about, has always been about whitelighter Andy & Brody still being around and helping the sisters out on their adventures.  I've always visualized the four of them, together but with hindsight, I wished Phoebe died, instead, and the new Charmed Ones would be Prue, Piper & Paige.  I enjoy the Paige character and would've liked to see her interact with Prue.  I've definitely fantasized the "what ifs" of all my ships, LOL

Best Written: Season 4. The way they introduce Paige could be done better yes, but it is a difficult storyline to write and with the limits they were facing, the writers did a wonderful job.

Paige's storyline overall, but also how she was introduced to the sisters, and establishing her place within the sisterhood while not being a Prue replacement.

Least Favourite:
Everything to do with the "Ultimate Power", I like Billie, but the Triad capturing Christy and made her turn Billie evil doesn't make sense to me.


24. How do you feel about the sisters' character progression over the series? Loved it? Hated it? Only liked certain sisters in certain seasons?
Prue: Love her character's arc and progression, on her trying to let go of her responsible side and treat her sisters more of an equal as her arc goes on.
Piper: Mixed feelings but overall, I love her arc and growth. I do love how she slowly breaks out of her shell and become Piper the superwitch/ wife/ mom, though there were time when her insistent of having a normal life feels like it's repetitive and old.
Phoebe: Hate it. I love Phoebe when she's all about saving the innocents, later on she became too self-centered, and especially her constant need to "search for a man" is just... tiring to follow.
Paige: Love it. Her arc growing from a mere social worker to a super witch/ whitelighter who could stand her own ground against her two older sisters.

I love orbing, but that's probably considered whitelighter's power... If it has to be from the Charmed Ones, it'll be Piper's molecular immobilization.

30. And finally the last question, what drew you to Charmed to begin with and why do you still love the show? If you don't still love the show, why do you come to the Cafe?
Charmed was what I grew up with and I was there because it serves as a topic of discussion with my friend. I do still love it till today, despite disliking some parts of it.
