Hi guys, as with the thread title, which is your favorite season of opening credits?

With Prue - Season 2
With Paige - Season 5

For me season 3 I guess when all the sisters powers are shown.

I like Season 3 for the original PO3 and Season 4 and 7 for the reconstituted.

I do love Holly's clip's in Season 7!

I did like how Season 1 - 3 credits really showed us the story of Charmed. 

Like ok, its in San Francisco. It's dark and gothy and they find a book of magic. They walk down the stairs, and they are new to all of this stuff. You can see that Prue and Piper are really close and that Phoebe is a 'fun' sister. It also showcases their different powers and really does show that they are sisters first and foremost. It shows Prue as really strong, Piper are the panicky one and Phoebe as the free spirit and I love the scene when they are walking up the steps with Kit at the end.

I liked the second season's opening credits, especially the one in Morality Bites that just featured the three main actresses.

Second would be season 3, followed by 3.

Love all of these Es.   It is too bad for a show based on sisterhood and the show all about the Charmed Ones. That the credits didn't just include just the three leads, with the supporting cast not in the opening, perhaps including them in the on-screen credits after the opening. 

But I guess this is what makes Morality Bites so special with an exclusive opening. That 70s Episode was the only episode to just feature the three leads, except Ted King was in the opening still. 

Season 1 (first version), Season 2 (including Morality Bites), Season 3 followed by Five are my favorite credits.

Just keep in mind that only the first one is an official set of credits; the others are fan-made. So the one for 'Morality Bites' is the only one that only showed the three leads.

The Morality Bites One is my all time favorite credits (and loved the HD version that was posted during our re-watch threads), the one with just the sisters in them, as it should have been.

Normally something as simple as an opening can seem so minor, and what I like about Charmed's openers is how different each season changes theirs so you know what season you're watching. Upon doing so rewatches I decided it would be nice if we all had a discussion about our favorite (or least favorite) segments or overall opening themes. With me I'll go over each season

What I loved about the Prue season openings is how it told you everything about the show. I loved everything about the opening, the shot of the girls coming down the stairs, how the camera pans from above showing the girl's below doing witchcraft, the beginning shot of Prue telekinetically throwing a pipe at a grimmlock, the ending shot of the girls walking up stairs together.

But what I loved the most was how it showed each shot of the girls using their powers, then right after showcase the actresses names. Prue moving things with telekinsis, Piper freezing bullets from gunfire or freezing jeremy and Phoebe gaining premonitions followed by using her tuition to dodge energy ball. It was a small, but subtle thing that gave the openings charm.

Out of all of these openings, I loved Season 3's the most. Thoughts guys?

Season 4's opening is a strange one, I don't dislike this one, but its missing a lot of what made the first three good. I just find how each sister is billed to be forced and strange. Seasons 1-3 made sure to structure them from Oldest to Youngest, yet here it seems Alyssa was billed first simply by virtue of favoritism.

Season 5's opener however shows the tonal shift completely. Look at the way Phoebe poses in the opening, they emphasize her "good looks" by having the screenshot of Alyssa pan up with her "worried" expression, followed by her laying beside a towel in her mermaid attire with a simile and the borders around her close up faces, they obviously emphasized Phoebe as "The Star" and this opening shows it clear as day. Strangely I do like Paige's red headed pose..

Now with Season 6, it's easily the worst opening by far (fitting as its the worst season imo) firstly I don't like Pixie Cut Phoebe doesn't look good standing next to the other two, and Paige's overuse of make up (I also think the pose Rose makes when it shows her name is kind of ugly) and Piper's is lazily reused from Season 5.

With Season 7 its probably my second least favorite. Firstly the emphasize Phoebe as "the star" once again by close ups and ending with a pose of her doing a body pose turn with emphasizes on her looks, only now this season magnifies all of their "beautiful looks" doing the same with Paige and with Piper she gets a head turn followed with long earrings.

With Season 8 its the same as Season 7 with the girl's looks being the main focus of each shot, only this time the shot of the sisters with the actresses names have a Sex and the City-Esque style of framing. It no longer feels like a show about witches.

What is the commonality between the Paige seasons though? One thing I noticed after viewing all the Charmed season intros with both this and the OG theme song is how the opening sorta signals the show's downfall in the later seasons. Notice how, from season 5 onwards, the structure of the opening changes. From season 1 to 3 it went like this:

Each sister uses their powers followed by screenshot of the character with the actresse's names on them. But from season 5 to 8, the "power usage clip" is gone. It may sound like a silly detail but, to me, it really symbolizes the huge tonal shift of the show in the later seasons. By the end, "Charmed" was more about the girls wanting more "me" time and complaining about their witchy duties, to the point where they sometimes became unbearable (especially in season 8)!

I always liked the clip of Prue throwing a pipe at the grimlock or showing Piper running to freeze the bullets from gunfire or Phoebe touching the door to get a premonition, you don't get that in any later season openings. This showcased how it was less about witches with powers and more about three women but sometimes magic is there. They also made sure to focus more on scandalous poses.

In Seasons 7 and 8 their looks are also emphasized more and Phoebe's opening obviously wanted you to believe she was "the star".. What do you guys think about each opening theme? Discuss.

I love the Prue years because of they a shot of the sisters walking up the steps.

But, what we lost in the later seasons with Paige, we didn't get that just a shot of the book.

One thing, and we noticed it in the re-watch of Season 1, why they decided to show a shot of Prue closing the door from the unaired pilot, and in the first two episodes of Season 1 we had a different opening credits, and it changed from the third episode, where Prue and Phoebe got a different shot, and then the door closing with Prue changed from Something Wicca This Way Comes to the Unaired Pilot.

I really do love them showing a shot of each sister's powers.

Out of Sight might be one episode they used a heap of shows of the sisters, using their powers for the credits of the second season.

One thing I never understood, is they used a shot of Prue from Season 2's Painted World for S3, without giving her a new Season 3 shot. But I do love that shot, so I get why they went for the best shot, than just picking one that was more modern.

By the way here is the first version of Season 1's credit that got changed after just two episodes.

Yeah, I agree, it is alright, but it is missing what made the first three great.

Season 5's opener however shows the tonal shift completely. Look at the way Phoebe poses in the opening, they emphasize her "good looks" by having the screenshot of Alyssa pan up with her "worried" expression, followed by her laying beside a towel in her mermaid attire with a simile and the borders around her close up faces, they obviously emphasized Phoebe as "The Star" and this opening shows it clear as day. For a season I don't like, the credits to are just as bad.

Yeah, they got lazy with Piper's reused shot. Just because Piper/Holly didn't change her looks or hair, doesn't mean she doesn't deserve a new shot. But, they do this the most to her over the others.

I miss the power usage clips, and I like when they focus more on sisterhood with clips.

I've found so many fan made credits so much better than what we got. 

My favorite might have to be the first three seasons:
Season 2 (one featuring just the sisters only from Morality Bites)
Season 1 version 1 (first two episodes)
Season 3 
Season 2 (non-sister only version)
Season 1 version 2 (rest of season)
Season 4

The original opening credits, that got changed after just two episodes of Season One.

A bit of trivia on the credits: I found from the Charmed Wiki (not the best place when they claim stuff that is fanon  as canon half the time, but I know these facts are true) 

*There are a total of 34 different opening credits in total. The biggest difference would be removing a cast member if they are not appearing in the episode, and including a few new additional shots. Except Season One having two versions with differences in the shots used.

Season 1 has 7 versions (changes in clips, effects, order of cast members)

Season 2 has 6 versions

Season 3 has 4 versions

Season 4 has 3 versions

Season 5 has 4 versions

Season 6 has 3 versions

Season 7 has 2 versions

Season 8 has 4 versions (two versions with both the old and new theme song).

*The short intro which was used for the two-hour long season premieres of seasons 4 and 5.

The only opening to feature only the three main characters (the sisters) is shown once in season 2, "Morality Bites".

When one of the supporting character's does not appear in a particular episode, his/her name also does not appear in the opening credits.

However, there's been two incidents where this hasn't happen. T.W. King was credited in That '70s Episode but he wasn't shown in that episode (Although his younger self was) and Brian Krause was credited in Hyde School Reunion but he wasn't shown in that episode.

The capital letter flashes that are seen throughout the whole series are only the letters that spell out Charmed.

The text effect has been changed three times during the first four episodes of the series. Since "Dead Man Dating", the text effect has remained the same; a scroll of initials spelling "charmed" before the actor's name.

From season 4, Most of the scenes in between the Sisters clips, were from season 3, Although one was from season 2 (Morality Bites: When Prue used her Telekinesis, and ended up destroying the attic) and the remaining ones were from season 1.

From season 1 to season 2 there was a pattern in the opening credits.

For example: After Prue's title clip, there's a scene of Prue and Piper, which means Piper is next in the opening credits, after Piper's title clip, there's a scene of Piper and Phoebe, which means Phoebe will be next and after Andy's title clip, there's a scene with Andy and Darryl, then Darryl's opening clips will appear.

During season 3 this pattern was broken as between Piper and Phoebe's clip was a clip of Prue and Phoebe. 

Since "The Wedding from Hell", Alyssa Milano is no longer billed as the last cast member, however she is billed after Holly Marie Combs. Despite this, she is still billed with the top billing status, 'And Alyssa Milano', despite being the third cast member to be billed in the opening credits. She remains the 'And' title until the fourth season where she will be billed first.

The font used in the credits is called the "Charmed Font" and is fan made, the real font is not known. Since the fourth season the font has changed to "Mason" ("Bell Gothic" is used to replace the "t" from Mason font.) for Starring, And...as "Piper" and Created By. The font has further been used by Lady Gaga for the cover of her single, "Poker Face" (see image) and the DVD cover of Little Witches.

You can tell the show's tone changes, when the credits do too. Season 6 is my least favorite season, the season I almost stopped watching for good as a fan, but kept going, hoping the show would get better and the sisters.

The shots of the sisters are not that great, and Piper gets a recycled one from Season 5.

In our re-watch at the Cafe, we did notice that Out of Sight used so many clips and shots for Season Two and Three, especially with the sisters using their powers. I guess, it was an episode that displayed their powers the best, or what they thought was the best shots for the credits. 

My all-time favorite is always Morality Bites, with just the sisters, and also Season Three.

Seasons 5 and 7 have the worst Season intros as far as showcasing who the "stars" are. Season 6 is worse overall due to the laziness and how ugly the sisters look in that season. But Seasons 5 and 7 are my least favorite.

I mean look at Phoebe's clips before it showcases Alyssa's name during the Season 5 opening 




Notice how Phoebe has borders highlighted on her clips and how her appearance is emphasized. In the mermaid clip she's show posing with a smile, it was the most obvious hint of actress favoritism from Brad Kern. Piper also gets this as well. It's so clear how they wanted us to see Phoebe as "THE STAR"
