LOL, of course you're right - you know me too well! But if you super-power the demons so these powers would be the only way the sisters could take care of them (meaning they're no longer the Charmed Ones, since they wouldn't need the Power of Three to get rid of them) then this progression make sense and an extremely boring show that's all about battles and special effects and not much else. You know me - I've never cared for progressions when the original powers work just fine along with what makes them the Charmed Ones - the Power of Three. Also, I don't like the fact that both Piper and Phoebe have offensive powers - I much preferred when only one has that, but one that won't kill on its own so the three would still depend on the Power of Three. I think in this thread you're allowed to use the original powers as long as it's not given to the Charmed One who originally had it. But if you're right and you can't use any of the original ones, then telepathy for Prue and Paige works just fine. Although I think that for defensive purposes, I have a new and better idea for Piper. Try out this set: PRUE and PAIGE: Premonitions - makes sense for the leader to have this - and this would allow Paige to develop into the leader rather than Piper, despite being a half and the youngest. Typical Es - this would *not* be whitelighter influenced. Paige's only whitelighter power would be to orb so she'd be a witch with a single whitelighter power and a single witch power and not a living whitelighter with all of their powers. It would also prevent Prue from becoming a Mary Sue, which all of yours would be. PIPER: Shielding (similar to what Baby Wyatt has and that she can extend to others so she can protect her sisters. This allows them the time to cast the Power of Three spell, similar to when she'd freeze things, but no longer need that particular special effect, the reason they dropped it. Like Wyatt, she has to actually activate it; she can't panic-shield, so if she's unconscious or caught by surprise, she's a dead duck) Again with her having this power and not molecular powers, she wouldn't become the Power of One. PHOEBE: Shoot fire (just like P. Russell) - show that powers aren't good or evil but depend upon how they're used. But like Prue's TK, although she can burn baddies and stop them, it doesn't kill them. For that they need the Power of Three. With those three absolutely no need to progress the powers. You really changed my opinion on power progressions actually. At first, I was a lover of new powers. I liked it when Prue got AP and Phoebe got Levitation because they weren't 'Power of One' abilities: the sisterhood was still essential. Piper's exploding power ruined all this, as we now know. Perhaps - if they were dead set on going down the "molecular route" for Piper's powers - the writers should've given her an ice-based power, like P. Bowen or the ice-freezing ability she had in 'Bride and Gloom'. It would've made her a lot less lethal. But yeah, I now see how unnecessary power progressions were for the most part, which is why I am now always trying to come up with ideas about how the girls' original powers could have expanded in strength/scope instead. I do like your idea of Piper having forcefield power, as it would fulfill a similar function to her freezing. It also could've created an interesting dynamic between Prue and Phoebe if Prue had to learn to trust Phoebe to be the "leader" when it came to offensive battles, and Phoebe would have to learn to listen to Prue's advice and follow her lead, courtesy of her having premonition power. Also, it would've subverted the notion that brute force abilities make one All Powerful (on account of Prue being The Strongest, and all). Also, I think Prue and Paige would've respected premonition power much more.

I'm glad you agree with me regarding progressions now, that as long as they have the Power of Three, they don't need more. The goofy thing is now I *really* like Astral Chaos' ideas, where like me, she's not super big on the multiple power thing, and instead she prefers controlling their powers grows as they grow as people. IF you haven't checked out her ideas yet, please do so!

I really love that about Prue being forced to trust in Phoebe's skill and Phoebe being forced to acknowledge Prue's advice, it could've been great both for bringing in conflict and then strengthening their bonds and personal growth. I rewatched "Morality Bites" last night and it was awesome getting to see a glimpse of their primary powers expanding rather than seeing them use a bunch of side powers. I'm not even sure if they had Prue's astral projection planned then, because I'm certain it would've made more sense for her to use that when she and Piper were working on busting Phoebe out of prison.

GOTTA forward Astral Chaos' ideas to this second page just because I love it so much. Only thing I disagree on is the healing. I'll always think that should be reserved for full whitelighters. I happen to appreciate the " timing, feeling and phases of the moon" theme so I would stick to that as a guideline. Also as I'm not super big on the multiple power thing, I'd prefer to do something where their power grows with them as people vs giving them any new abilities separate of the original. So ... Prue - Empathy. Honestly, I'm just really attracted to the idea of giving the emotionally stunted/repressed sister; opening Prue up and forcing her to actually feel things rather than tucking them away. As Prue gets more comfortable with expressing her feelings, her empathy can grow into her being able to communicate empathically and make others feel whatever it is she's feeling. Piper - Chronokinesis. Starts out with her reversing time for a brief period (approx. 15 - 20 seconds). Expands into her being able to slow down time, stop time and speed up time. All for short intervals, never for more than 60 seconds. Her sisters would be unaffected. Phoebe -- Telekinesis. Give the wild one the wild power. Start off with it reflecting Phoebe's lack of focus; TK energy just spewing off all over the place when she tries to use it. As she becomes more focused and disciplined, so does her power. Instead of things just knocking around and flying off in whatever direction, she's able to put her power to stable, practical use by moving/"lifting"/directing objects in the way she wants. As for Paige (who in my mind would be a surprise fourth sister -- not a replacement -- as the other three would still be around): I'd give her Prophetic Dreams and Healing. Have her find her sisters through her dreams, maybe. The dreams can develop into full blown foresight and a precognitive sense. Or maybe into Precognition, Clairvoyance and Retrocognition labelled simply "Premonitions" like we saw with Phoebe. Healing simply because I prefer it to Orbing. I don't like a bunch of people orbing around and besides, realistically, there's no need for an orber unless the sisters are leaving San Francisco -- it just leads to lazy writing. Healing fits Paige better anyway.

I much prefer the original power growing and evolving into something bigger and a more complete version of that power as the character grows into more complete versions of themselves. And, of course, that isn't to say that I can't enjoy when others give characters multiple powers. I certainly can. If it is thoughtful and wonderfully executed, I can enjoy just about anything. It just isn't my preference and isn't something I would do in the vast majority of scenarios.

OOPS! Sorry for the mistake. Your nameplate didn't show your gender and being female I tend to think people are female until I find out otherwise, especially if your avatar is a female.
And I still agree with your ideas (except for healing) and would've loved to have seen them done that way rather than getting powers that had nothing to do with the original ones, the ones that made them Charmed when none were really necessary.

I like both your ideas, Es and Astral, especially Prue having the passive power and Phoebe the most active one. These ideas make me wish the writers had put more thought into the powers, especially Piper's. It would've been so much better had we got believable progressions of their powers, rather than flimsy additional ones.
The only problem I can see with Empathy (and Telepathy) is how usable it would be in day-to-day demon fighting. I agree that it should never have been as powerful as when Phoebe possessed it but, in its most advanced form, could perhaps give the user high resistance to magical attack, but one would never be able to channel powers. Perhaps if Charmed had not been progressively written in a rigid "battle sequence" format, powers such as this would've had more chance to shine. I think Empathy would've been good for Prue during the episodic structure of S1/2 - thinking of Innocents such as Max Franklin, Cleavant Wilson and Maggie Murphy.
As for Paige, if we could erase Whitelighters entirely, I wouldn't mind Healing being her sole power.

As for Paige, if we could erase Whitelighters entirely, I wouldn't mind Healing being her sole power. And as usual, you're just thinking of fighting demons (YAWN!) while I'm thinking of finding innocents to save - what I count as the most important job for the leader of the Charmed Ones and the one who would've directed the others on what to do during the battle, including Piper using her power (whichever one it is) to protect Prue or Paige, since I'd never want Paige to be part of it if the original three are unless she died and took Leo's place as their whitelighter after Leo gave Piper the ultimate wedding gift - giving up his wings and becoming human. With these powers and with the Power of Three, fighting the demon becomes vanquishing the demon and not much else meaning very, very little time spent on "fighting" and instead the episode would concentrate on the innocent, the sisterhood and their lives as sisters who just happened to be witches but are living in the real world, the major reason why I don't like Charmed as much once Kern took over and introduced Cole. I know others feel differently and that's fine, but that's me. I know that I've watched both the Spiderman movies and the Wonder Woman movie and the new Star War movies and pretty much slept through the battle scenes. The scenes leading to the battle and after the battle was what interested me. If most of Rebooted Charmed is used up with special effects as they battle demons like in S4-8 rather than concentrating on living in the real world as sister witches, I won't watch it for very long. Others who love special effects undoubtedly will and that's just fine. I'll do what I do with Supergirl (and I bored out on that before it ever reached The CW - tht's SuperWOMAN, not Supergirl, my favorite superhero from my childhood) and just read other's reviews. That's more than enough time spent on it for me.

With empathy, you could have Prue read peoples emotions including whether someone/someone's good or evil if Paige wasn't a white lighter then. She could channel them and learn to heal someone emotionally say if they're grieving for a deceased relative and Prue knew how to talk and help them to move on understanding what their feeling. Then she could project her own emotions as her power progressed or shield herself then others from emotion-based attacks only if evil went after them whatever came first and she could locate innocents maybe who needed help via their emotions unless you wanted to leave that part out and have the clairvoyant person do that through their premonitions or have to sisters have to scry or find them out some other way via an address from SFPD for instance.
These sort of things would leave the power emotion-based only meaning no channeling powers just feelings, only been able to shield people from anyone evil who had empathy or other emotional type powers used to attack the sisters/innocents leaving Prue to rely on Phoebe with the heavy duty stuff via telekinesis deflecting powers/throwing people etc and Prue being the person who kick-boxed perhaps because her power couldn't be used against demons etc though solely she would use that to help people first and foremost.

Since watching Marvel's tv series, 'Cloak and Dagger', I like the powers the main characters have with which they get visions of a person's thoughts, hope and fears in abstract form by touching them. The visions are usually more abstract and dream-like, so the characters have the work out the meaning behind them. It's kind of like a telepathy/empathy hybrid power.

If their original powers had been different, it would have been cool that they be elementars. By example :
- pyrokinesis for Prue ; - wind control for Piper ; - water control for Phoebe.
And when they are together, the power of three connects them to the fourth, the earth.
But I prefer what we saw on TV show. I think their original powers are perfect for "the most powerful witches in history". All three capacities are dominant powers. Telekinesis can deflect anything, any power, any being. Temporal stasis can freeze anything, any power, any being (almost ^^). And premonitions power can see everything, potentially. Theses powers are perfect for "charmed ones".

Maybe this is too out-there but I would love Prue's power to have a sort of duality to it. Like Niki from Heroes. Prue was always struggling with which Prue to be and maybe only her alternate self has her power at first while she's still in denial about being a witch. As for the specific power, gotta keep it offensive. Maybe something like magnetism so she can control metal. It would look really similar to telekinesis but a little tougher since she can't just fling anything she wants across the room.
I can see Piper turning invisible since that's kind of how she felt in the very beginning. She was quite timid so naturally her power is defensive. Maybe the ability to phase through solid objects - which would be hilarious to watch her learn to control. Constantly falling through the floor/ceiling and dropping things.
The Charmed Ones need a guiding force so Phoebe's power needs to stay in the psychic category. Maybe demons are invisible to human eyes and she can see them? And this develops into (astral projection) the ability to walk in the Dark Realm, the parallel plane where they're trapped and trying to escape from. This or mind control. Something that brings up the ethics of using their powers to segue into Phoebe's turn to evil.
But I gotta say, the original set up was perfect. They covered all the bases they needed: offense, defense, and strategy. As well as cosmic principles: space, time and mind/spirit/the Beyond (however you want to look at premonitions).

I like the idea that no powers have an alignment to either side no matter who is using said power.
Universal powers:
These powers are shared between the sisters making them their basic powers.
- Spell writing - Potion making - Scrying - Thermal Resistance - Telepathy
Individual powers:
These powers are uniquely their own.
Prue Halliwell:
- Empathy - Astral Projection
Prue will combine these powers and use them the same way as she did in Primrose Empath.
Piper Halliwell:
- Alchemist
Mixing both science and magic, she is able to make food into medicine or something fatal.
Phoebe Halliwell:
- Pyrokinesis - Flaming
Being the wild child, thought she would have a wild power.
Paige Matthews:
- Prophecy - Retrocogniton - Death sense
I personally love the idea that Paige would be all seeing all knowing.

Well I actually quite like the original three powers the Charmed One's received of telekinesis, premonition and freezing, but if I had to change the original three I would completely change the powers as to alter how the show worked. If I was rewriting Charmed I would probably give Prue the power of telepathy, Piper the power of mediumship, or communing with the dead, and I would give Phoebe the power of prophetic dreams, as it would make her visions more artistic and allow more opportunities for foreshadowing. This way Prue would be the one who unites the sisters and connects them all via telepathy, Piper would be the only one able to see ghosts, which would make her important in episodes revolving around spirits like Dead Man Dating or Saving Private Leo, Phoebe would be close to what her powers are in the show, but would access the future in dreams as opposed to psychometry. I think this would change the show for the better, and allow the power of three, spells, potions and the sisters creativity do the work as opposed to telekinesis or teleportation or explosions. Prue could detect threats via telepathy, Piper could commune with spirits and lead the sisters to stories or innocents this way, and Phoebe would detect innocents in dreams.
