I often think that the chemistry between Rose, Holly and Alyssa wasn't the greatest and that Rose wasn't a great serious actress which gave way to the last few Seasons being 'lighter'. Plus she didn't really look like Piper or Phoebe too much either.

Rose McGowan joins the main cast as Paige Matthews, Piper and Phoebe's half-sister, after Shannen Doherty's departure from the series. "Charmed" producers originally wanted to recast Prue's role and approached ex-”Party of Five” star Jennifer Love Hewitt and Tiffani Thiessen (who replaced Doherty in Beverly Hills, 90210). Both declined and thus the producers decided to kill of Prue and replace her with a long-lost sister in favor of having "a fresh face" join the series. Other actresses considered for the role of Paige included Denise Richards and Charisma Carpenter (who would later portray Kyra in the 7th season).
How do you think the show would have gone differently if any of these options would have been considered?
Do you think the leads would have had better chemistry, even moreso than with Shannen?

Jennifer Love Hewitt as Paige! She would of been so good in this role and maybe Charmed would end after season 7, when Jennifer signs for Ghost Whisperer, so we wouldn't have a season 8. Voted for her.
I don't think Charisma Carpenter was ever intended as in the running for Paige. She was still on Angel which was finishing up its second season with no signs of her character on Angel leaving.
I never heard of this rumour before until well after both shows ended - on the Charmed wiki for the first time. I think this is just fan casting on who should of gotten the role. But is this really a true fact?

That's the only time I heard of it. I keep warning Charmed fans to take everything in the Charmed wiki with a grain of salt the size of the Manor! They think their head canon is true canon. Just like Trump, they think if they say the same lie often enough, people will believe the lie.

I would've liked to see Tiffani play Paige, but she already had the reputation of being Shannen's replacement and I'm sure she wouldn't have wanted that to continue.
If Jennifer Love Hewitt would've been allowed to play Paige the way she played Melinda Gordon (always got a kick out of that name - what Piper's first child's name *should've* been...), the whole show would've been so much more serious and better.
I also voted anyone but Rose playing Paige. No way I'd want someone else besides Shannen playing Prue, just like I wouldn't want anyone but Holly playing Piper or Alyssa playing Phoebe or Julian playing Cole. Now someone else playing Paige, Leo, Big Wyatt, Big Chris and Billie...OH, YES!

Well said Es. I don't like the Charmed wiki for that reason, and glad I don't trust that place anymore with my Charmed facts.
I don't think a new actress as Prue would work, even if they came up with a good excuse for why Prue looks different. Shannen is Prue for me.

Well I've never seen Charisma in anything but Charmed and the film she and Holly did together. Charmed Wiki is an odd place, so I'm going to take your advise guys and not trust it. Since it is fan run, It wouldn't surprise me some just turn it into their own personal head canon at that site, and not run it properly with true facts.
I voted for Jennifer Love Hewitt as Paige. I know her from other shows, and she was a television actress at heart unlike Rose.

I'ld not be able to accept a different Prue
I vote Charisma, she'ld be a strong and rebel Paige, without all Rose's affections, I'm understanding I never loved Paige because of her

Yeah, I don't think Charisma was ever in the running for Paige at all. Take the Charmed Wiki with a grain of salt like Es said. I've seen her in those other shows, to know she never was leaving it for Charmed.
I liked Paige the character, but never Rose in the role. Voted for Jennifer, she was a main character on Party of Five, a series focused on siblings, and if she brought qualities she would go on to use for Ghost Whisperer. She makes the perfect Paige Matthews.
Too bad Rose would of been better suited in a recurring role or one season role like say Billie or Christy. Of course no telling how she would do, but she may of been better than Kaley as Billie.

Maybe they figured it would generate more buzz to the series having a movie actress in the role, when some rejected the role or were busy doing other roles at the time of casting. Another question would be why did Rose accept the role. Yes she may have thought that the show would only last one or two more seasons. But it was really a big risk, and she hated herself for taking it in the end and staying on for 5 years. That is why I don't think we would ever see Charmed revived like many shows are today. I can't see Rose accepting to return unless it was a movie or a one-off limited series. Besides she is way too busy in her life doing things that are more important to her with her Rose army for women's rights, another reason Charmed won't be coming back anytime soon with her. |

I don't know if anyone would go for the idea, as it erases more than half the show, but I'd love to see this. We could get some kind of recap of how everyone survived All Hell Breaks Loose, maybe as a narration over clips of the episode, and then things continue from there. It could start off anywhere with any type of story playing out as long as everyone survived and the three original actresses wanted to do it. It won't take anything away, but more this can be treated as an alternate version. So fans can pick whatever version they liked more. You won't have to give up your S4-8 DVD's if you don't like this version, and hated it. But *if* they did do this. I can see them doing a short flashback and maybe using CGI for the actresses to look as they did in 2001, to recap and get around the cliffhanger and jump forward to present day. But again, I'm not sure we will get a new series or movie. We need all four, or just three to agree. So a mini series or movie dears is what we might end up with. However an animated series would be the easiest path to take to do it and you only need the actresses to do the voices, and that could take place at any point and time. |

I've seen both fanfics and virtual series that do a very good job with this idea - that's probably the way we'll end up having to get it. Unfortunately none of my favorites of these kinds of stories have been completed and I really don't like to recommend incompleted stories that might never be completed.

I did notice it more in season 8, but never really noticed it much in other seasons. Jennifer love Hewitt is the only one of the choices I would agree with but I still loved Rose as Paige .
On another note. When the series first started, I had always imagined charmed being a spin-off of the movie “The Craft” and with Sandra bullock as their mom. But Fiona did a great job.
