It's 30 weeks until the 20th anniversary of the first airing of 'Something Wicca This Way Comes'. As my own private celebration, I'm going to watch one of my favorite episodes each Sunday at the time that Charmed aired - 8:00 Central - and then review it here. I'm going to do these backwards so that on the anniversary I'll re-watch 'Something Wicca This Way Comes', and hopefully I'll get to watch the Charmed Ones go from demon-hunters I hated to sisters I love.
When I listed my favorite episodes in airing order, the 30th episode was 'Charmed Again, Part One' so that's the one I watched tonight, thanks to my DVD of my 21 favorite S4-8 episodes, and it indeed was the perfect one to start off this re-watch. Although Piper and Phoebe are definitely sisters in it, the whole show seemed more about meeting Paige and getting rid of Shax than mourning Prue. Well, Piper sure did, just like I'm sure Holly did, but Phoebe seems much more interested in Shax and Paige, like Alyssa happy to now be the star now that Shannen was gone. And Piper blaming Leo for healing the wrong sister is the start of him turning from guide and angel to little errand boy. And she says she's pissed, but she didn't look pissed too me, she just looked like she was feeling sorry for herself, the start of her turning into 'Poor, Poor Pitiful Piper'.
I didn't even like when they reconstituted the Charmed Ones because that's not how it happened the first time. The first time it didn't happen because they stood under the lights; it happened because Phoebe said the spell. I would've preferred the same, especially if it was Paige who found the Book and opened it and read the spell in the attic, while the light shone downstairs...
And I think that's my biggest problem with this episode. I've seen so many fan-made versions of this episode, both fanfics and fan-videos who did the whole thing so much better, that I realized that *they're* one of my favorite episodes, not this.
Truly when Paige runs out the door, I yelled at her, "KEEP RUNNING, AND DON"T STOP! You're a wonderful person right now - you don't want to hang around these bitches and become a bitch yourself!
LOL, doesn't sound like a very good spot to start a re-watch, does it? But for me, it's perfect because I can look forward to it getting better, when if I went the other direction, it would get worse!

Truly when Paige runs out the door, I yelled at her, "KEEP RUNNING, AND DON"T STOP! You're a wonderful person right now - you don't want to hang around these bitches and become a bitch yourself! HAHAHAHA. Can't argue with you, there, Es. Honestly, a better introduction would have been to have her, realize she's got this orbing teleportation power, and have them not know they're sisters yet. Keep them in the same innocent circle. More kids or battered women. Get to Tyler the Firestarter and have a great two parter with Piper (and Phoebe) working with Paige as a social worker. And throughout it, them getting closer and forming a friendship bond. Maybe a couple episodes later, have her mention that she thinks they're half sisters and why. (WHY? We NEVER learned WHY Paige thought that the Halliwells were her sister. I don't recall that ever being explained/explored.) Oh, lord. I fear for my rewatach. It's going to give me ~writing ideas. Ain't nobody got time for that! |

One of the things I hate the most about what they did to Paige was have her give up her promotion to be a Social Worker. IT FIT SO WELL FOR HER! Think of the Innocents.
Oh wait. I forgot. We're talking about Kern in charge. He doesn't care for them. MAGIC COMMUNITY, UNITE! to destroy the show

Personally, I think the best way to introduce Paige is the way some friends and I did many, many years ago in our own virtual series. Here was the intro:
I keep thinking of hearing that Shannen wanted to leave early and the producers wouldn't let her. If only they'd agreed to let her go at the end of the season and did something like this instead...

I thought I was the only one who didn't enjoy Charmed Again so highly. I didn't like it for many of the reasons stated above.
I can't wait to continue reading more of your reviews Es. I watched Sense and Sense Ability recently.

Were they trying to explain it away that she just felt drawn to them because of some special link? Nope, that can't be it Paige wasn't a Charmed one yet. I just found this very strange, as was the story everything just moves way too fast. I really felt that the full 2 hours should have been *completely* devoted to mourning Prue, with Hell Hath No Fury perhaps serving as the second-hour episode with Cole, Leo and Phoebe helping Piper. Maybe Paige's character is included but she plays cameo girl. Even though personally I would have much rather they have not included or introduced Paige at all until the second or third episode. Hopefully, you feel better next week on your re-watch. Especially when the sisters start becoming more likeable. |

I watched Sense and Sense Ability recently. Oh, I might re-watch 'Sense and Sense-Ability' even if it's not officially on my Celebration list - I've re-watched it numerous times and always get a kick out of it. How 'bout you? |

I vaguely remember Paige saying something along the lines of, 'I went to the police. I found the church I was dumped at and checked around I figured she must've lived near there' and then she goes on saying how she thought she might be related to the Halliwell sisters. What helpful police officers indeed! Seems such a flimsy, throwaway line to explain how Paige was led to the Halliwells. Perhaps she knew police officers on a friendly basis because of her job as a social worker. I guess it's not implausible, just weak.

Thr police weren't involved. Sam and Patty just took her to the church. No names given.
The only way police would help is with info from the nun about angels and blue lights. And the cops are all. OCCULT! Them Halliwells keep messing with our occult cases.

I always wondered why Prue never made an appearance as a ghost. I still think this could be an option for the reboot. I believe it could give credence to the new cast as well as honor an original cast member that may not be available in the future like Holly, Phoebe, or Rose. I think the new showrunners would be irresponsible to not use Shannen in some way now, knowing that she has cancer. Although it is in remission and there are people who can survive cancer (my grandmother is a breast cancer survivor, matter of fact she got it in her 60s and she just turned 102 last October) I think they should take advantage of her existence.

With the show filming in Vancouver, it will become even that much more difficult for them to be available and do it. I could see Shannen doing a guest appearance. But I'm not holding my breath to see any of the originals, maybe I am wrong and they will appear at some point.
But phoebe50 so proud of your grandmother, and WOW 102!!!

I watched Sense and Sense Ability recently. Oh, I might re-watch 'Sense and Sense-Ability' even if it's not officially on my Celebration list - I've re-watched it numerous times and always get a kick out of it. How 'bout you? Awesome. I really liked all the funny and hilarious moments in this episode. I had so much fun re-watching it. I might just watch another episode next week, maybe I'll work my way backward from Sense and Sense-Ability. |

I'm going to just watch the episodes I like and skip the rest, I don't think I could personally sit through all the episodes of S4 and S5, but I still have some favorites in them. My opinions might change and I see the episode differently now. Which is fun to see how I feel about them now. *nods* Gotcha. Why don't you go ahead and set up your own 20th Celebration Re-Watch thread in the Charmed General Discussion board and AW will move it to this board (that's what she did with mine)?
