Season 4 feels like two seasons to me, the first and second half.
I love Paige and who she was in the entirety of season 4, though I'll always choose Prue over her. Paige's intro needed to be slower and they needed more time to grieve Prue before finding Paige and vanquishing the Source together.
Phoebe was quite likable to me in the first half of the season, and I hated her in the second half. Complete personality change.
I didn't mind Piper for the most part. She had her moments where I thought she could have been kinder to Paige, but overall, I thought her reactions to Prue's death, Paige's discovery, and the stresses of the magical situations they faced were all pretty appropriate and didn't take away from her character.
I didn't like the introduction of half whitelighters and witches. Paige's whitelighter half took away from her witch half, and vice versa. I would have much preferred if she were their full sister, and the reason she didn't grow up with them is that her older sisters (and later Paige) were meant to be the Charmed Ones, and four sisters co-existing together would deny all four their powers.
Because of this, recognizing the greater good at stake, Victor took Paige and raised her separately with Patty and Penny's support. This would be the real reason why Victor wasn't around when the sisters were kids, yet why he makes an effort as adults. When he first comes back to visit them in season 1, Paige would be about 19 years old and maybe away at college, and wouldn't know where he was going.
But they did the best they could with the Patty-Sam story, and I did find it believable since they had the potential setup for this established by season 2.

Except for not liking Piper overall during S4 (why would she want a baby so bad with all of that evil swirling around? Undoubtedly done because Kern wanted to introduce Wyatt Halliwell and turn this thing male-centric as soon as possible) I couldn't agree more if I tried. I LOVE your suggestion for how Paige's introduction could've/should've been handled and hope that Ripoff Charmed will do something similar - but I'll bet they don't. I'm sure the oldest is going to be a half - probably half-demon or possibly the daughter of their "new" whitelighter.

But I have to wonder dear, had Season 4 turned out this way. And the Cole/Source storyline *was* shifted to season 5, would this mean Piper's pregnancy is shifted to season 6, or if they just had her find out in the middle of season 5, once the Cole arc concludes when Julian exits. I love the suggestion for Paige too. It really would have been so much better than what we got. Paige's introduction of course to me needed to be slower. Obviously, at a slower pace, the first three episodes would play out over five or six episodes and not three. With Shax not being vanquished for a number of episodes.

I like the idea of Piper being pregnant with Wyatt (well, no, I'd prefer her pregnant with Prudence Melinda...) during Season Six when Holly was actually pregnant with her first child. Especially if this keeps Chris in the future where he belongs.
Then again, I'd actually prefer Prudence Melinda being Phoebe's and Cole's - the Phoetus who without Phoebe drinking the potion would also have a chance to be good, especially after Grams wiccans her. Again, that keeps Chris in the future where he belongs.

I guess we don't know what she had in mind, but I'm sure she had considered a daughter for sure not a son like Kern. But if it keeps Chris in the future where he belongs. Good!

Anything better than what happened season 4 wise would've sufficed for some people who disliked what went on obviously.
In a perfect world like Elle Em said season 4 would've focused on Paige's introduction and how she interacted with her sisters, her backstory, Piper and Phoebe's time coming to accept Paige over the course of the year, teaching her witchcraft and preparing for the oncoming evil.
Shax would've only been defeated like Tempest first was season 1 and not totally destroyed till later on because the sisters couldn't access the PO3 having not the family bond yet.
We would've learned more about Paige and seen or heard more about family members than her aunt and uncle in Charmed Again part 1.
Piper and Phoebe would've grieved Prue more and met Paige episode 5 or 6 who wouldn't accept her sisters so quickly and not move into the manor till the year's end.
Patty and Grams would've said the Elders knew about Paige and explained why she didn't grow up with her sisters for whatever that was obviously.
Victor would've had an issue with Paige and not accepted her so quickly seeing how her conception kinder ended his marriage amongst other things of course.
And the Source would've stayed the red hooded demon with sword and wings from the season 3 finale and being the year's big bad with the Cole possession and Phoebe's wedding happening the first half of season 5.

This season needs some housekeeping. But for starters, I really think the bond between the new set of power of three and Prue's death was handled poorly. It was so rushed. Obviously more to do with the writers wanting to move on from Prue as quickly as possible.
I didn't even have a problem if the conflict was more natural, and that Paige wasn't accepted so quickly, that the bond between them wasn't so strong. That it took four episodes before the new power of three even forms and not one episode.
Victor dealing with Paige needed to be seen. That would have added weight to the story.
It made absolutely no sense, that upon meeting Paige for the second time after Prue's funeral, and Piper just meeting Paige that the new Power of Three was even able to form. The Power of Three is rooted in the sisters bond. They had no bond.
Positives in S4: *Paige's character was fine.
*Paige's social working job was a great asset.
*Phoebe/Cole and Piper/Leo, for the most part, were alright in the early parts of the season.
*Acting in episodes 1-3 dealing with Prue's death was great.
*The Seer was a good character.

I know I've said this a million times, but the way in which the Source/Cole story line still rankles after six years.

I liked Season 4 up until Charmed & Dangerous. THe show took a drastic change for the worse after that. They really lost their way after that.
Did a fairly good job of dealing with Prues death. She was my fave so yeah I totally missed her. Though they probably should've changed Grams' reasoning for the sisters not being able to see Prue. At least end it with the reveal that they dont know where Prue is.

I know I've said this a million times, but the way in which the Source/Cole story line still rankles after six years. Yeah, they could have done it better. Actually I don't see why they didn't just not show the Source's face and had the Source taking possession of a mortal Cole the same way he did with Shane. Then both Cole and the Source die at the same time or something.

Definately liked the beginnning and some of the smash episodes like Charmed and Dangerous, LLtQ and Womb Raidar. I like to rewatch this series, because although its not the best storyline, you can tell the cast and crew are really trying, unlike Season 5 when it feels so floppy.

I'll always be disappointed we never got to see the immediate reaction to Prue's death. But compared to other TV shows, I still find Prue's death handling better. The worst thing a show could do is jumping five years later after the immediate reaction. As for Paige, her first impression is still something which doesn't agree with me. Paige coming to P3 for over a year because....? Mindlessly doodling the triquetra on a napkin because....? Patty's flimsy explanation of dumping Paige because she was afraid Charmed Ones will be denied their birthright and powers if Paige was discovered by the Elders because....? Victor being totally chill and showing no reaction to Paige's existence when before he had claimed Paige's father made his wife leave him because...? The new power of three easily vanquishing Shax. We already saw instances where Power of Three failed when one sisters' emotions were not right. e.g. Piper being distraught over Leo in season 3 Once Upon a Time made the Power of Three spell to see fairies and goblins not work. With a shocked Paige and grieving Piper, that's two sisters emotions influencing magic. But still Shax is easily vanquished. Do we have Paige asking ghost Patty questions about....well almost everything? Nope. Hugging and calling Mom a woman whose supposed to practically be a stranger to her. The following episodes we have Paige make stupid mistakes, accidentally massively increasing her boobs, sucking on lollipops, squeezing lemons in supermarket. And there was the almost stripteasy dance on a rooftop after Prue's funeral. We didn't have Andy, Darryl, Leo, Dan, Cole or Chris man boobs, butt or anything else grow supernaturally larger due to spell backfire or jiggling their bodies on rooftops in their first, second or third appearance on the show. Why does a character especially one who is supposed to replace one of the main cast, suffer through that? Also why were Phoebe and Cole's relationship and problems more important than addressing and making sense of Paige's existence in the Charmed universe? And focusing on things which don't involve pointless things like screwing up potions, spell backfiring, a childhood friend with benefits and a past life who is evil, transforming into vampire, etc. Honestly most of the time it felt like somebody going through a checklist for Paige rather than making conversations and events about her around her feel natural: Did we give Paige a boyfriend? Check. Did we give Paige a dead loved one? Check. Did we give Paige a traumatic past? Check. Did we give Paige a past life who is evil? Check. Did we turn Paige evil and have her kill her sisters? Check. Did we include a sisterly conflict scene? Check. Did we include a sisterly bonding scene? Check. Did we include a scene where there's a serious discussion about Prue between the sisters? While I'll always love the Piper breakdown scene which followed after, my first reaction to Paige's revelation about her hatred for parents was 'Huh? She has dead parents? She hates those dead parents? She just mentioned having parents once in one small sentence two episodes ago....and suddenly her conveniently dead parents are being used for this very moment?' It was like someone decided we should have Holly perform a cool breakdown scene. And then as an afterthought, remembered Paige also existed. So let's make Paige say she also hated her dead parents for abandoning her. That way she and Piper could have something to relate to. Which didn't really work for me. Doesn't seem natural. The muffin scene at the end of the episode worked for me somehow. But this dialogue for some reason just doesn't click with me. While I can buy Piper's anger at Prue risking her life and dying because of it, Paige's anger and hatred for her dead parents just seem to be pulled out of the blue. Perhaps if the episode spent time on Paige doing something related to her parents instead of things like stealing the Book and casting spells left and right and breast enlargement backfires, then it would've made sense. So I'm gonna choose Prue over Paige. Because the show didn't waste time with Prue doing completely pointless things like they did with Paige first half of season 4 which made it difficult to emotionally connect with Paige's character.

Agree with the first sentence but Season 6 is not comparable to Season 4 in terms of stand out episodes. There's Chris Crossed, Little Monsters, I Dream of Phoebe and a few others noticeable mentions but these three don't even compare to a stand out Season 4 episode like Charmed Again, A Paige from the Past and Womb Raidar which are only some of the great episodes. Then again, this board teaches me that I don't think the same as others who have different views. Which again is why I love coming to this board!

I liked how they dealt with Prue's Death. Paige is welcomed and liked. The explanation is believable. I liked the beginning of Season Four. I liked the Cole/The Source storyline. I liked Phoebe as the Queen of the Underworld. I like Piper in this season overall. I like Paige in this season overall. Prefer Prue over Paige. Best Power of Three S3
I decline to answer which actress (Shannen or Rose) is better.
