For those watching, are the plotlines feeling forced and rushed? I've seen comments online from people who say that the reboot is rushing so fast through four episodes that could be a whole season? Are the sisters developing nicely, and do you feel each one is getting enough screen time or is one treated as the star like Shannen was in S1? I do not like the sound of them setting up the death of the detective for the crimes, especially coming from an Elder who is also a witch. Sounds like the parts of Classic Charmed, I hated. But this is a reboot of S4-S8, so I'm not surprised. It was actually Charity who set him up and Mel clearly didn't like the idea. Regarding characters' development... I like Macy and Maggie, and watching the last episode I was able to connect with Mel since she was dead set on protecting Angela, not killing the Harbinger. The scene where she approached the dead cop, being overwhelmed by guilt and sorrow, was a very powerful one. It does feel like they are rushing the plot, but I sincerely hope it will get better cause I'm enjoying the series so far. For those who doubt if they should watch it: try to watch it as if it's a completely new TV show. It's not better or worse, it's just different. Thank you very much for clarifying this for me. As someone not following the reboot but only by the ones who have, I can get confused. My problem with regular ol'Witches being Elders is that it makes zero sense when it comes to Whitelighters. Whitelighters report to them and apparently fear them yet Whitelighters have multiple powers, are able to heal, dont age...it seems weird. Elders cant wipe minds but Whitelighters can in this version. But having our first outting with an Elder be one where they are TOTALLY wrong about everything is not a good look. AGREED totally! I really think they blew it by trying to be like Classic Charmed by including whitelighters who aren't really whitelighters at all. Either use them and Elders the same way Classic Charmed did or skip NuGiles and just use this Elder Council (an idea I do like if you throw out the idea of whitelighters) and let one of them guide the Charmed Ones. That would've made so much more sense. I agree completely with this. The idea isn't that bad, they just haven't executed it properly. If one of these Elders guided them, that would have made so much more sense. Then they could phase them out, once the Charmed Ones are trained and no longer need them or that Elder is killed off. Now had they used the Elders and Whitelighters the same way as Classic Charmed, and maybe slightly changed it that some Elders were witches who had died, maybe that could work. I'm not sure. I'm not sure what on earth they plan to do with Whitelighters, the fact that the Elders are just witches, but Whitelighters are not, and are dead. Do Elder Witches just seek out non-magicals and determined who is worthy to become one upon death, or are Whitelighters also witches too?

Making the Elders into senior witches just seems like another feminist thing honestly. They've completely ignored the fact it makes no sense. If they were gonna change the Elders so drastically, they should've just got rid of them entirely. Good magic can still have rules that need to be abided by, but that doesn't mean there needs to be a council of crones enforcing it while telling the girls what they can and can't do.

Good magic can still have rules that need to be abided by, but that doesn't mean there needs to be a council of crones enforcing it while telling the girls what they can and can't do. So they fixed the Elders by making them Elder Witches, but KEPT whitelighters (makes absolutely NO sense!) AND kept the worst part of the Elders - acting more like demonic enforcers than angelic helpers? Had they made Harry mortal also, this would've fixed SO many of the problems of Classic Charmed (half-whitelighters with whitelighter-influenced powers being tops among them), but this just makes it worse. At least they didn't make all of the Elders males - and I prefer their mother an Elder witch over a high priestess which no one knew until someone had to get married. I thought that's what they were up to and the Elders were going to be the patriarchy that the Charmed Ones were going to try to get rid of. Now if they acted anything like Kern's Elders (rather than Connie's THEY who *did* do what was best for Good, even if Piper didn't think so...) and did this, I'd be cheering. As is, I'm shaking my head in confusion.

I don't mind the Elders being Elders Witches. It makes it more sense to me because, with an Indigenous Elder, they are people who are teachers with a wealth of knowledge to support the younger generations. Their words are sometimes held in the highest esteem, and some opinions are that they can't be questioned. I question, but I also giver respect at the same time for their knowledge. As both a witch and an Indigenous person there are a lot of similarities in the spiritual beliefs. It sounds like they are trying to bring a more authentic witch connection that I think the OG charmed did.

I like what they did with the Elders, I was annoyed they introduced them early, but when I see they are just Elder Witches, well now I'm not too fussed at them being brought into the story this early, at least we have no Elders and all the Heavens. This grounds the show a little more, and lets the show stay more focused on witches and all the different opinions, beliefs and different generations seeing things differently.
They can support the younger generations of witches, and that works much better than even Classic Charmed's Elders, who I didn't like.
I also see that these Elder Witches are all women, I don't see any male witches among the Elders group. Which keeps this more witch-centric.
This might be the first thing they have done better than Classic Charmed, okay apart from the whitelighters.

If they introduced covens in this series who've have been around a long time like the Warren/Halliwell line from original Charmed or something similar then you could have whoever's the leader or being a leader of one of those or anyone who has high priestess status an Elder which would akin in line with the Elder witch theory.

I enjoyed this episode. I would have liked to get to know Angela first but I don't think we really needed to in order to feel something. This wasn't about Angela and more about sacrificing an innocent to save the world. We got a chance to see the Vera-Vaughn sisters make a decision against the Elders, which involved saving an innocent.
The Elders storyline was a little confusing. I think more time needed to be spent on explaining who the Elders are and how a witch becomes one. I do like that they're higher up witches though and not higher up whitelighters. So, it's only whitelighters that are dead. But, it also gives us a look at that it's not just men pulling women down. Other women do it -- we all do it to each other. And that's such an important point to remember.
The ending disappointed me but only temporarily. It made me dislike the Elders more (the remind me a little of the angels in Supernatural) and love the Charmed Ones more. Once they found out what happened to the cop, they were upset. They never wanted this and wouldn't have agreed to it. This was a chance to see that they wanted to save people and not just the world.
This was the point in the series that I really saw potential in the Elder storyline. I've not been that disappointed since, either, if I'm honest.
